Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Raven awoke to the sound of the alarm clock. She had been dreaming of her and Severus laying under a Christmas tree the size of a house and making love.

Unfortunately it was just a dream and she had to go to work.

The pair had spent the loveliest Christmas they could have imagined together. Severus made sure that Raven got a few days off from work. He had taken her to a small village in the Swiss Alps.

Raven wouldn’t have known the Swiss Alps from the mountains in Mongolia. But the village had looked like something from a movie or a Christmas card. For her, that was all that mattered.

They Apparated onto the side of a steep mountain close to a small, steep roofed cottage. Raven looked around in the fading light at the surrounding cottages. They were covered in a deep coating of snow, the lights from inside the other tiny houses cast jewels of light onto the snow-covered mountainside.

“In here.” Severus said directing her towards the door to their little cottage.

Raven entered. The cottage seemed to be mainly one room. There was a crackling fire dancing merrily in the stone hearth. To the right of the fireplace was a beautifully decorated perfectly shaped Christmas tree. Against the wall was a large canopy bed of a white colored brass style, draped in silver and gold hangings.

The little cottage contained a small kitchen and a small bath also.

Raven looked at the little room, she turned, smiling, she threw her arms around Severus’ neck and kissed him.

“It’s so beautiful.” She whispered to him. She looked deeply into his dark eyes.

“ If you’d like I can make it opulent?” He asked gazing into her green orbs.

“Don’t you dare.” She replied. “I couldn’t think of anything that would be more perfect for Christmas with you.”

Severus looked deep into Raven’s eyes. He felt as though she was speaking the truth. She knew that he could have turned the inside of even the small cottage into an opulent castle if she had wanted him to and yet she chose to keep it just as it really were, a small humble cottage. He felt that he had truly met a remarkable woman.

“Let’s go and sit by the fire.” Raven said smiling at Severus. She wondered what he was looking so serious about.

They spent the next four days together in bliss.

Severus was more relaxed than he could ever recall being in his entire life. Before he left he had only told Dumbledore that he would be unreachable. The Dark Lord didn’t care about where or what Severus did on his own time. Severus had been careful, never the less, in covering his tracks so that none from the dark side would be able to find him. He spent the entire time being attentive to Raven and enjoying everything about her. It crossed his mind more than once how easy he felt it would be for him to turn his back on the magic world and join Raven in the Muggle world. He knew that leaving the dark side would not be difficult decision at all. He had known for years now that he had taken the wrong path in his youth in allying himself with the evil side. He did not berate himself overly for the decision. He attributed it to youth. In his mind he considered it his biggest mistake, but he didn’t live in the past. He just dealt with the situation as it was.

He couldn’t change anything at present. Even though he could take Raven and disappear with her, literally, if he gave up magic. He could easily go and live with Raven in another country. The only thing stopping him from doing just that was the fact that he had made an Unbreakable Vow over the summer. So far it looked as though the vow was not going to end favorably for him.

Severus clamped his jaw, so that he could feel pain in his teeth, bringing him out of his pleasant thoughts and into the present. He looked out at his class of annoying Third Years attempting complete a pop quiz.

Picturing Raven in his mind, he was sorry that he had ever agreed to the Unbreakable Vow.

“Time’s up.” He said in an angry hiss. As he waved his wand and all the students’ exam papers flew from them, stacking themselves neatly on the corner of Professor Snape’s Desk. “ I want 20 inches of Parchment on how to defend against an Inferi, by next class.” He added sounding purely evil. He smirked as the students moaned about the assignment.
