Soul Bond

“Why didn’t you tell me that Harry and Granger were going to be here?” Draco demanded.

“Would you have come if I did?”

“That’s besides the point, Sev! You should have told me!”

“Draco, you needed to be with Potter. You guys will never be complete without the other. As much as I hate Potter, you guys are bound together for life. Lilly deserved to know her father and Sirius deserved to know you.”

“I know that!” he said in frustration. “I know that this has ended well, but I feel betrayed. I feel like you have gone behind my back to manipulate this situation. I won’t have it Sev, I won’t be manipulated any longer!”

“Forgive me, Draco?” Severus asked his godson.

“You damn, git, you know I do. Just don’t do it again!” he said pulling his godfather into a hug.

“I am glad that all has turned out well for you.”

“We do have a couple of bugs to work out, but it should be fine. Sev, what do you know about Mediums?”

“Is one of your children one?” he asked in surprise.

“Yes, how did you know that?” Draco demanded.

“Because all Mediums come from a soul bounded pair. Not all pairs produce one, but no medium has ever not came from one. Which one is it?”

“Lilly.”

“Well I suspect that the current Medium would be approaching her soon. Usually in their fifth year the power transfer is made.”

“I don’t really understand this. What power transfer?”

“A medium needs to be very powerful to be able to cope with all of the lost souls. If the medium wasn’t they would be overwhelmed and go crazy from all of the lost souls trying to get help. With the power transfer, they will be strong enough to block out the cries of the dead and be able to function somewhat normally. With the power transfer, there also come the knowledge transfer. Each Medium learns new things, and those things are transferred on so that the new Medium will know how to cope and help those who truly need help.”

“So she will spend her life hounded by lost souls?” he asked incredulously.

“That will be her life. Lilly will never live her life for herself. She will live it for the good of others. Mediums rarely, if ever, marry. They devote their very existence to helping others. They don’t want to do anything but help those around them. She will travel around the world. Mediums seem to instinctively know who needs them and they can disappear at the drop of a hat for weeks at a time to help those who need them.”

“At five years old!” Draco shrieked.

Severus smiled. “No, that is when she will receive her power and knowledge. She will not be ready to be on her own at that age. The current medium will transfer power and knowledge then, but they will stay with Lilly to train her until they feel she is ready to be on her own. This usually takes several years. When this occurs, the current Medium will move on from this world.”

“How do you know so much about this?”

“I know the current Medium,” he said simply.

Draco gasped. “You do?”

“Yes, as do you.”

“Who?” he demanded.

“I can’t reveal that to you. Only a medium can reveal who they are to the living. If all of the living knew who a medium was they would stop at nothing to force that person to help them. It is hard enough dealing with all the lost souls, but imagine what it would be like to have lost souls and the living vying for your attention every day.”

“I don’t like this, Severus. She can’t be a medium, I won’t allow it!”

“You don’t have any choice. Mediums are born from strong parents. That is why they are only born from the soul bonded. It takes a very strong witch or wizard to produce a medium, and when a couple is soul bonded they are at their strongest. You and Potter are especially powerful, obviously because you both conceived. Any child you have together will be especially powerful.”

“And that’s another thing, Severus, will we get pregnant every time we are together now?”

“Male soul bonded usually can conceive twice. It is a very difficult thing for a male to conceive and it take a lot out of a male’s body to do so. Usually after a second pregnancy, ancient magic will make you infertile.”

“Well that’s good! I never want to go through that again!”

“You won’t have any choice. You will know when you are fertile. It will be as it was the first time with Potter. You will have no control and your bond will guide you until you are pregnant. Has this happened since you have reconciled?”

“No, not like the first time.”

“It is not time yet then.”

“God’s Sev, I don’t want to do it again!”

“You should have married a witch then.”

Draco just glared at his godfather. Like he had any say in whom his spouse was.


“Oh let me look at those babies of yours!” Molly squealed after seeing Harry arrive. “Aren’t they precious?” she said pulling them into a tight hug against her ample chest.

“Hey! I’m not a baby!” Sirius said.

“Grandmother Narcissa says to watch your manners, Siri.” Lilly said glaring.

Molly looked at Harry. “I thought Narcissa died in the final battle?”

“I’ll tell you later. Siri, Lilly, this is Grandma Molly, and this is your Aunt Ginny. Please behave yourselves.”

“Oh they are so beautiful, Harry. Lilly has your eyes, but she looks just like Draco. And Sirius, he could be your twin but for the eyes. Those are definitely the Malfoy silver!” Harry and Draco had decided to undo the charm they cast to alter the appearance of the children when they decided to go public.

“They are adorable, Harry,” Ginny said with a pang. These could have been her children.

“Thanks, Gin. So have you married? What’s new with you?” he asked with a smile.

“Just playing the field. I work as St. Mungo’s as a healer. I quite enjoy my work actually.”

“That’s great! Hermione just finished her studies to be a Muggle doctor. She plans to return to study as a healer here.”

“That’s great!”

“So dear, why didn’t you tell us about you and Draco? I know why you two ran off, what with the death eaters loose and all, but you should have told us. I was worried sick Harry!” Molly chided him.

“I am so sorry, Molly. I was afraid to let any type of information out. I was pregnant and Draco and I were not together. We only recently found each other again and that’s when I found out about Lilly and Draco found out about Sirius. We have both been living as Muggles trying to protect ourselves and our children. You know that I love you, but I was afraid.”

“Oh Harry!” Molly cried throwing her arms around the dark haired man again. “I am so glad that you are home!”

“So how are Ron and the twins?”

“The twins are doing great. They have opened a third store. They have the original in Diagon Alley, and then the second was in Hogsmeade, and the new one is in Surrey. They are both married now, and George’s wife is expecting their first child. Ron’s working at the Ministry as an auror. He loves his job. He and Luna are engaged and the wedding is planned for June.”

“Wow! Ron and Luna! That’s fantastic!” he said smiling. Ron was the type who needed to take care of someone, and Luna definitely needed a keeper.

“Fleur and Bill have four children now, and Charlie is still single. Percy married Penny and they have two children,” Molly beamed as she talked about her family. “Arthur was promoted to Assistant Ministry of Magic. He is quite happy with his job. It gives him more freedom to play with his Muggle toys!”

“And what about the order? Has it disbanded? Are they still using Grimauld Place?”

“We haven’t disbanded, but we only meet twice a year now. Everything has been quiet since you know who died,” she whispered. She never could bring herself to say his name out loud. “We usually meet here at the Burrow instead of the old head quarters. It didn’t feel right being there without you.”

“Oh, Molly! You know I left word that the house was yours to use as you saw fit!”

“I know, but it just didn’t feel right. Dobby and Winky go once a month to keep in up in case you return, but we never do.”

Harry smiled. At least now they had a place to stay away from the hotel until they decided what they wanted to do. It would be great to see Dobby again. The three adults sat and talked for a couple of hours while the children played in the gardens. “I really wish that we could stay longer, however, we are expected at a wedding at five o’clock, and if we are late, Draco will have my hide. I need to get the children home so that I can get them cleaned and changed.”

“Oh! I hate to see you go!” Molly cried.

“We shall return soon! Draco and I plan to stay in London indefinitely.”

“I want you to bring Draco and the children for a family dinner tomorrow evening. It is Arthur’s birthday, and the entire family will be here. I won’t take no for an answer!”

“Alright, Molly. Can I bring Hermione also?”

“Of course you can! I plan to give that witch a piece of my mind for staying away so long as well!” Molly stated with her hands on her ample hips.
