Diagon Alley and meeting a Malfoy
HI EVERYONE!!!! I'm baaaackkk!!! Yes, it's been a month and for that I'm sorry. Jon, my son, spent well over two weeks in Boston Childrens Hospital, where I cannot access this webside as it's blocked for the children's protection. AAAAnd, stupid assed me evidently forgot to email the file to myself so I could work on it properly!
I want to thank everyone who has stuck with it and harangued me or emailed me with encouragements.
Also, to everyone who's left the notes about errors on my part concerning things like Harry's son, Seri's name: theses things have been edited and changed in my copy, but too many edits on this site gets admin upset as they think we're trying to put the story back on the latest queue.
So, the next chapter after this will be up within the week *crossing fingers* and I hope to hear from all of you!
love,
Marti!!!

August 27th Diagon Alley
Jennifer stared at the wall as it moved by itself, the tapping of her father’s wand echoing lightly around the family. Her father held Milana, Seri gripping his robe tightly in her left hand. Emily reached over and took her hand, squeezing it, the girl’s only outward sign of awe. Marika was in their mom’s arms, her little arms wrapped around Mina’s neck as she watched the wall open and a whole new magical world opened up to the five Prince daughters.
They’d been staying in the Leaky Cauldron for two nights to get the girls used to a magical environment before venturing into Diagon Alley for school supplies. This was also a family vacation of sorts as their father had been traveling between Hogwarts and home for the last six weeks to get settled, finish the sale of their home and set up a new one in the magical village of Hogsmeade.
The girls had handled the surges of power well and were getting used to their bursts of magic. Mina frowned less and spent more time with her two childhood friends, letting all their children play together on a regular basis. Jennifer had become good friends with Ron Jr. and Vicky and anxious to start school to find out which houses they would be sorted into. Both of the Weasleys knew they would end up in Gryffindor like their fathers.
“Holy crap!”
“Jennifer Minerva!” Mina snorted back her laugh with an admonishing look. The girl looked like she imagined that she had when Hermione Granger had gotten her first look at Diagon Alley all those years ago.
“Sorry, Mom. But, look! There’s brooms flying around outside that building. By themselves!”
“That’s the Quality Quiddich Shop. If you choose to learn to ride a broom, we’ll go there for one.”
“I can’t wait to try.”
“Well, I’m not going to be teaching you that.”
Toby bent low and whispered loudly to his eldest daughter, grinning and eyeing his wife. “It’s because your mum’s afraid of heights.”
“I am not afraid of heights. I just prefer keeping my two feet firmly upon terra firma, thank you very much! There is absolutely nothing wrong with not liking flying.” Mina straightened her back and walked ahead of her husband, shifting the toddler to her other hip.
Toby and Jenn grinned at each other and followed the matriarch, Seri and Emily bounding around the two adults in excitement, pointing at the awesome sights.
“We have to make it to Madame Malkins for Jenny and your father first. Then I’ll take Jenny and Emily to Mr. Ollivanders. I can’t believe that man is still around!”
“I still think I should be able to get my own wand now.” Emily pouted and crossed her arms over her chest, her happy mood dissolving quickly into a small surly version of her father.
“You can’t get one until you’re eleven or going to Hogwarts. We’ve gone through this already. Repeatly! Now give it a rest.” Toby growled, his eyes half open to narrow slits as older wizards eyed him warily. Most of them remembered him from when he’d been on the run for killing Albus Dumbledore.
“Oh my God! It’s Severus Snape!”
“He killed Dumbledore.”
“I thought he was in Azkaban.”
“Is he still a Death Eater?”
Jennifer blushed as she heard the whispers around them. She looked up at her father, his jaw, stiff and tight. She knew her father was upset but he’d never show it in public. With a little smile, she reached over and grasped his hand, squeezed it and let go quickly.
“Thank you, Princess,” he whispered out of the corner of his mouth, barely moving his lips as they walked down the cobble-stoned path, past magical shop after magical shop.
“Here we are. Mina, I’ll take Marika and Jennifer in here. You will be alright with the others while getting the books?” Toby bent and kissed his wife quickly on the cheek as they stopped in front of the seamstress’ shop.
“Yes, husband. I’ve got your list right here. We’ll meet in Ollivander’s at noon?”
“Absolutely.” He bent and kissed her quickly on the cheek before turning and guiding Jennifer into the seamstress’s shop. Marika waved to her twin over her father’s shoulder as Mina led Emily and Seri up the street a little to Flourish & Blotts book store and then turned to see where they’d entered.
“Pretty.”
Around the toddler, wizarding gowns floated magically, scissors cutting, pincushions bouncing about in the air, tape measures whirling, taking the measure of their assignments. A gray-haired witch bustled out from behind a curtain to greet the family, coming up short as she recognized the former Death Eater immediately.
“Severus Snape! I’d heard from Filius that you had returned but I didn’t believe it.” Grinning the older woman reached him and stood on tiptoe to try and peck his cheek in greeting, but Marika put her little hand up with a frown.
“Not Mommy.”
With a rueful smile, Madame Malken rested one hand on the returned wizard’s free arm and squeezed. “Welcome back, Severus. I see your time away has been productive. Who are these darling little witches?”
“Madame, my daughter Jennifer is here for her first set of Hogwarts robes and I would like a complete set of teaching robes. I have returned to my former position of Potions Master at the school.”
“A First year Snape! Come along, Miss Snape, and I’ll get your situated quickly. Then, I can concentrate on your father.”
“I’m Jennifer Prince, Ma’am.”
Madame Malken eyed Toby. Well the shit was going to hit the fan sometime, it might as well be tonight when the family returns to the Cauldron for their lunch. “Jennifer, you may continue to use the Prince surname, but I must return to the one I had before leaving.” He’d bent down to whisper into her ear. She frowned at him but followed the older woman into the fitting room.
“Marika, your mummy’s going to be very mad at daddy.”
The little girl cocked her head to one side, frowning. “Mommy with Lana.”
“Yes, Mummy has Milana in the bookshop. We’ll see them for lunch very soon. Don’t you want to see your sister in her new robes?”
“Jenny new dress?”
“Robes and dresses. She’s going to school in a few days, remember?”
Her dark curls bounced as she nodded her head vigorously. “Castle school. Fang!”
His eyes rolled in response, the gamekeeper’s dog would be the one thing the little girl would remember from their visits to the school. Hagrid did enjoy showing the twins the various animals he had and had only lost Milana once in the Forbidden Forest, the centaurs having found her quickly playing in a herd of unicorn foals. Of course, the half-giant wasn’t used to minding not only such small people, but quick ones too. He walked around the room, showing the girl all the sewing paraphernalia, keeping her distracted while the seamstress worked on his eldest’ robes and waiting his turn. After a quick fifteen minutes, Jennifer skipped out of the back room, a huge grin lighting her face.
“Daddy, Madame Malken told me that once I’m sorted, the magic of the castle will change my robes and stuff to my House colors.”
He nodded his agreement. “Yes, it’s true. Before you even leave the Feast, your clothes are waiting for you in your dorm, all in the colors of your House. You’ll see on the first, love.” He bent and put Marika on the small couch near the front window, and then turned to Jennifer. “Watch your sister while I get my fitting. I’ve a few things to get besides my teaching robes.” He hoped to surprise Mina with a new gown for their anniversary in October. “Marika, mind your sister or you won’t be allowed to visit with Hagrid and Fang this weekend.”
“Okie, Daddy.” Her curls bounced some more, turning her innocent looking eyes to her sister and smiled.
“Alright, Daddy.”
With one last look, he followed the older witch into the back room.
Jennifer and Marika sat on the couch and watched out the front window at the passing witches and wizards, children her age and older getting ready for the first day of Hogwarts, smaller children skipping along beside their older siblings. Jennifer pointed out the packaging, so different from what they were used to in America with plastic grocery bags. Both of their heads turned as a blonde boy entered, wearing traditional wizarding robes unbuttoned over jeans and t-shirt. He stopped short at seeing the two girls sitting there. Jennifer pulled Marika into her arms.
“Hello. Madame Malken was told to expect me at 10:30 sharp. Where is she?”
“She’s in the back with my dad. They won’t be long.”
“You’re a Yankee?” He sneered at Jennifer, his lip curling up and his eyes rolling when he heard her American accent.
“Yeah, what of it?”
“And you’re going to Hogwarts?” Incredulity oozed from every nuance of his words.
“My father’s going to return to teaching Potions and I’m starting my first year. I’m Jennifer Prince, the former Professor Snape’s daughter. Who the hell are you?”
“Jenny say bad word.” Marika covered her mouth with a little gasp. The boy turned his attention to the younger girl. His sneer turned into a frown.
“You’re Snape’s daughter? He’s really coming back?” If his face could get any paler, it did.
“Yeah.” Sensing that saying more might hurt things, she added nothing beyond the affirmation of his question.
“I’m Abraxas Malfoy. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Snape.” He came up to the girls and bowed regally to the two girls.
“It’s Prince, Jennifer Prince.”
“My apologies, Miss. Have you been to the school, yet?”
“Yeah, Mom and Daddy take us every weekend. They’re getting a house in the village: Mom will live there with my sisters and Daddy will go home every weekend.” Jennifer warmed to the Malfoy boy, smiling up at him and letting Marika go for a few minutes. She blushed at the intense look the boy was giving her, his undivided attention. Being home schooled, she didn’t normally have much interaction with boys of any age.
“Jennifer Minerva! Where the hell is your sister?” Tobias Prince hissed, the curtain flying open behind the two pre-teens. They whirled around to find the toddler sitting on a high shelf, a bolt of purple cloth wrapped around her while a threaded needled magically sewed a small robe on to the toddler. She was laughing as a lint brush tickled her under her chin. With a growl, Toby pulled her from the shelf and sat her down on the couch cushion.
“Oh, dear. Mr. Malfoy, I’m so very sorry for my tardiness.”
“It’s alright, Madame. I was just getting to know Miss Prince better.”
“Malfoy?” Toby turned back to the boy, noting his resemblance to his former student, the boy he’d sacrificed himself for to save his soul. “You’re Draco’s boy?”
“I—I’m Abraxas, sir. Uh, I’m Draco’s brother.” Abraxas stepped back as the Potions Master advanced on him, entering his personal space. The former Death Eater sneered down into the blonde’s face.
“Your brother, hm? I hope you’ve better sense than he did, Mr. Malfoy. I’ll not be coddling the children of my former compatriots as I did during my previous tenure as a Hogwarts instructor.”
“Sir, my father despaired of ever seeing you again. He wished always to thank you for saving Draco from following the same ill advised path Father did.” His blue eyes stared up into the older wizard’s. With a quick muttering, Toby saw the truth in the boy’s memories. Lucius had finally seen the light about their dead master. He pushed the boy away and looked over his shoulder at his daughter, who was watching wide-eyed. She’d never seen her father looking so deadly.
“I will contact your father shortly. I must get acclimated at the school first. Please, extend my hellos to him and your mother, boy. And Abraxas,” Toby bent down again to rest his thin lips against the boy’s ear. “Hurt my daughter, and no one will be able to find you.”
Abraxas paled and dropped back against the counter as the Princes left the shop, his throat swallowing convulsively as he thought about the man’s warning.
!@!@!@!@!@!@!@
“Daddy! Did you have to scare him like that?”
“Jennifer, taking that tone with me will show you a side of me that you have rarely if ever seen. You left your sister unsupervised while you dallied with a boy!” Toby threw that over his shoulder as his daughter tried to keep up with him down the cobble-stoned walkway through Diagon Alley.
His jaw clenched as he thought about meeting the next Malfoy heir. He didn’t like surprises and he didn’t like the sight of his daughter consorting with a Malfoy!
“Daddy mad at Jenny?”
“I’m very upset with your sister, Marika.”
“Daddy, he was just talking to me. I’m sorry for taking my eyes off Marika, but I didn’t know he was someone I wasn’t supposed to talk to. You don’t tell me anything about before you left England!” Jennifer yelled the last words at her father, her face turning purple, witches and wizards turning to look at the girl’s outburst.
“You will follow me, young lady, and you will speak with a more respectful tone of voice. I will tell you about the Malfoy family tonight after dinner. I was hoping to keep you from that aspect of my past. I see that was wishful thinking on my part.”
Jennifer clamped her jaw closed and followed her father into the Potions shop where she’d buy her supplies for her father’s class. He made sure she got the best ingredients and bought her a first rate cauldron. Marika reached over her father’s shoulder for a hanging vine with shrunken heads on them, grabbing for one and squealing with delight.
“Dolly!”
“No, Marika. That’s an ingredient for a very powerful potion.”
“No, my dolly. See, little head.” She gripped the tiny head tightly, refusing to let her father take it away from her. Checking his watch he noted they had fifteen minutes to meet in front of the wand-maker’s shop and they still needed to check out with Jennifer’s supplies. He grabbed another head and carried it with him to the register. Two heads weren’t going to cost much and he would keep the girl quiet for a few minutes at least. He knew the head on it’s own was harmless. It was morbid and grotesque, but harmless to the child. Considering how his day had turned out so far, having his wife pissed at him was the least of his concerns.
“Severus!” The old shop keep started and dropped the box he was wrapping. Recovering quickly he picked it back up and waved his wand to cover it magically.
“I have a list here of ingredients not stocked sufficiently at the school. I expect them to be sent there by the end of the week. My daughter will be attending this year and here are her supplies. Please have them packaged and sent over to the Leaky Cauldron. It’s under the name ‘Prince’, please. And I would like to buy two heads.” He rolled his eyes as Marika smiled brightly at the old wizard and waved the head around.
“Dolly head, see.” She cradled it against her chest and popped her thumb in her mouth, resting her head tiredly against her father’s chest.
“Of course, Professor Snape.”
“Have a good day, David.” With a snap, he turned and left the shop, Jennifer following behind him with a slightly dazed look. She wasn’t used to seeing her father so… brusque. “Come alone. We need to meet your mother momentarily for lunch. If your sisters gave her half as much trouble as the two of you, she’ll be tense enough without us being late.”
