A prophecy revealed
After waking the next morning, Harry was feeling very guilty. He had betrayed Ginny. Part of him felt that it was just his nature as a man to want to have closure with the first girl that he had feelings for. He didn’t really feel that he would be able to do that again. Also there was Ron to consider. He had never done anything with a man before, and he didn’t know how Ron was going to react to him. Harry got up and got dressed and made his way down to the Great Hall for breakfast.
When he entered the Great Hall, he looked over at the Gryffindor table and saw Hermione beaming at him. Harry also noticed Ron sitting there, although he was preoccupied with devouring his food. Harry sat next to Hermione and Ron who was sitting across from them looked at Harry, startled. Harry’s first instinct was to run and get as far away from the table as possible, but then Ron offered him a shy smile, and Harry smiled back at him. Harry sighed in relief.
Harry looked over at the Ravenclaw table and noticed Cho smiling at them, and she offered a little wave.
As fortune would have it, Ginny had walked over to the table at that time, and asked Harry, “Why is Cho waving at you.”
Harry looked startled at the question, and as he searched for an answer, he knocked over his pumpkin juice.
Ron interrupted with, “Actually she was probably trying to get Harry to get my attention Gin. Cho and I have been seeing each other for a few weeks.”
Ginny looked relieved, “Oh, I’m so happy for you Ron. Glad to see you have found someone. Maybe we can all do a group date or something.”
Harry and Ron both answered at the same time, “NO.”
Hermione laughed at this. She said, “Ginny, you know guys loathe dating in groups. It puts them under undue pressure trying to best each other.”
Ginny nodded in understanding. Harry and Ron were both grateful for Hermione’s explanation even though it was slightly incorrect.
Later that day while Hermione was sitting in Charms class, she started to feel a pain in her abdomen. She was hunched over, and Harry noticed that his friend was clutching her stomach.
“Are you all right Hermione,” asked Harry.
“I’ll be fine, I’m just having some kind of pain or something,” she replied.
At that though, she doubled over and Harry stood up.
He said to Professor Flitwick, “Professor, Hermione is not feeling well. I need to take her to Madame Pomphrey.”
Professor Flitwick nodded in approval and Harry helped Hermione up and walked out of the classroom while Ron looked confused.
Harry looking concerned asked, “Have you even been to see Madame Pomphrey about the baby?”
Hermione shook her head no. She had been scared of what would happen if she did.
When they reached the hospital wing, Harry brought Hermione in and had her lay down on the bed.
Madame Pomphrey came over and Harry explained to her, “Hermione is pregnant. She hasn’t been to see a doctor since she found out. She was having some pains, and I thought she should come here to see you. She was scared of someone finding out.”
Madame Pomphrey replied, “Tsk tsk child. You should never put your fears above your health. We do have a confidentiality oath here. The only person that needs to know about this is Dumbledore. Now I can tell him or you can tell him but he will need to know what is going on.”
Hermione nodded. Madame Pomphrey examined her and explained that she needed to start taking some health potions that were for nourishing the baby. That is why she was experiencing some pain. Hermione agreed to tell Dumbledore when she left. After Madame Pomphrey gave her a potion, she was feeling immensely better. Hermione left the hospital wing with Harry and they made their way to Dumbledore’s office.
Once they entered, Dumbledore told them both to have a seat. Hermione started crying, she hadn’t realized how hard it would be to tell Dumbledore about her being pregnant. She didn’t want to see the look of disappointment on his face.
After seeing the tearstained face of Miss Granger, Dumbledore said, “I know why you are here.”
Hermione looked up in shock and said, “I thought Madame Pomphrey was going to let me tell you…”
Dumbledore smiled and said, “And so she will, however that is not who disclosed the knowledge of your pregnancy with me. I do believe the father, the young Mister Malfoy was the one who came to me concerned about you and your baby’s fate.”
Hermione was staring in disbelief. The wheels in her head were turning, analyzing, trying to figure out how all of this happened. She was concerned that Draco hadn’t told her that he went to Dumbledore. She was not sure why Dumbledore was smiling at her and not kicking her out of the school. She still couldn’t believe that Harry was here by her side, and she mostly could not believe that she was 17 years old and going to be a mother, the mother of her most hated enemy’s child.
She looked curiously at Dumbledore and asked, “Are you not disappointed in me sir? Are you not going to kick me out of Hogwarts?”
Dumbledore looked warmly at her, “Miss Granger, I have known you a long time and you are known for your brains and your common sense. Would kicking you out of Hogwarts make you any less pregnant? Will it help you feel better if I gave you a years worth of detentions. What you are looking for is punishment and judgment, I will give you neither. I do not necessarily condone what you did; however, I do know that you are a bright and gifted child. I trust your judgment of the young Mister Malfoy. It is also time for you to know why I made you two the Head Boy and Girl. There is a prophecy that I am going to disclose to the two of you. You may share it with Mister Weasley but that is it. I am going to make you sign an oath. If either of you tries to break this oath it will not allow you to disclose the information and your mind will break down or you will no longer be able to think like a person; you will in effect have the mental capacity of a vegetable. I know this sounds harsh but this is the key to the dark lord’s undoing and I have disclosed this to no one. I want you to think carefully and if you decide you want to hear it, you must sign with that quill there on this enchanted parchment. It will allow you to sign in blood."
After careful consideration both Harry and Hermione used the quill and signed the oath. The oath quickly disappeared and Dumbledore was ready.
He took a memory from the pensieve and they both appeared with him on his way to the Divination room. When they entered they could see Professor Trelawney meditating. Dumbledore was about to interrupt her when all the sudden her eyes rolled up into her head and she started speaking in that prophetic voice and said:
“He who is born of serpent blood will mate with that of lion’s blood. Their offspring will be the key to the dark lord’s undoing.”
They found the memory ending and they found themselves back in Dumbledore’s study.
“So this baby is going to bring down the dark lord. I thought Harry was supposed to do that,” said Hermione.
Dumbledore replied, “Not all is as it seems. I’m not sure if the actual baby itself is going to be the one bringing down the dark lord. I feel it may have something to do with the young Mister Malfoy. And I think he is going to be the key to allow Harry to bring down the dark lord. Now I sure you both have much to think about. That will be all for now. I do have more information to share with you that I have gathered but it will have to be another night."
He hurried the two confused Gryffindors out of his office and on their way. He was sure they both had numerous questions, but he needed to think how to display the information so that they would not be mad at him. He wanted Harry to bring down the Dark Lord, and he needed the information, but Dumbledore was sure that Harry and Hermione were both going to be mad that he fed a false prophecy to the Dark Lord on Severus’s behalf, allowing Lord Voldemort to be waiting for a child to be born of serpent and lion’s blood.
