The Dance Pt1
Author's Notes: Here it is the social event of the year and Hunter's band finally gets to show of their stuff for the entire school. Featuring Bon Jovi's It's My Life.
The day of the dance had finally arrived and Lion's Pride was having one last meeting before their show tonight. Seamus and Dean had already gone to breakfast so the Meeting was being held in the boys' room. "Okay so everyone understands their assignments?" Hunter asked them one last time.
He began reading of the checklist Hermione had written up for him. "Neville?"
"I'm escorting Cho to the Dance. She and I are will be chaperoning Carla and Derrick."
Hunter nods as he checks Neville and Cho's names off the list. "Fred?"
"I am in charge of the pyrotechnics designated for each song."
Hunter nods then looks at the other twin. "George?"
"I'm in charge of the lighting and smoke scheme designated for each song."
Hunter checks the tins names off then looks at Lee, "Lee?"
"I'm in charge of the sound scheme and am to stick to the plan or lose all ability to walk and reproduce ever again." Lee looks over at the twins who had also received the same threat from Hunter.
Hunter looks to all three of them. "I'm trusting you three to handle your assignments like professionals if any of you screw this up it is your ass. Got it?"
The three-prankster nod and promised to do their jobs as instructed. "Okay now play list." he looks over his notes. "Alright everyone know what song they're singing?"
The all nod and one by one call off the song they're singing at the show except Harry, he gives a false name. Harry and Hunter had planned out his surprise for the last week and tonight was the night.
The meeting ends and they are given the rest of the day off. Hunter reminds them that they are to meet up in the dressing room one hour before show time to finish getting ready. Everyone leaves Hunter alone in the room. He lights a cigarette and begins pacing around the room. He can feel the tiger growing restless again as he tries to clear his mind and focus on the show tonight.
"I know you want out," he says. "Soon I promise, but not tonight." He walks to the window and stares out into the clear blue morning sky. "I need to remain calm awhile longer." For the last few weeks Hunter has taken to talking to his inner tiger trying to calm it. Most times it works but others it doesn’t.
Do to his growing agitation things had gotten so bad that he had to be careful to never wander too far away from the rest of the band. While normally not a problem since he, Neville, Ron, Harry and Hermione had almost all the same classes there were days that the tiger wouldn't calm down until he was around Katie.
"God this is driving me crazy." Hunter nearly yells. He knew that the girls were busy helping Carla and Cho get ready for the Dance before getting ready themselves. From previous experience he knew that no one would see the girls until it was time for them to meet in the dressing room.
Hunter goes downstairs and spends the day strumming his guitar and hanging out with the guys. Although they never talk about it the other members of the band have noticed an increase in Hunter's playing and smoking. They've also noticed a sharp increase in how agitated he's been the last few weeks.
On more then one occasion Hunter's very nearly come close to getting into several fights because of one pointless reason or another. Katie had made the boy's swear to keep Hunter occupied while she and the girls got ready for tonight. They found it easier to just leave him alone with his guitar and cigarettes while they occupied their time with games and talking about the show tonight.
About an hour before it was time to leave for the dressing room Hunter tells them to go get ready. They shower and change before meeting up downstairs with twenty minutes to spare. Not really feeling like hanging around waiting Hunter takes them to the dressing room early for a quick run through of the plan.
Harry's wasn't the only surprise that had been planned for the evening. Hunter and the guys had decided to do something special for their girlfriends and were going over the plan one last time. Neville had finally gotten up enough courage to ask Ginny out tonight and every guy, including her brothers, were going to help him out.
It had been decided that during their break a wizard wireless would play more traditional ballroom music and the guys would as their ladies to dance. The twins would ask Angelina and Alicia to dance while Lee, who refused to dance would sit this part out. At the end of the break but just before they returned to performing several snowy owls would swoop in and deliver a dozen roses to each girl of her favorite color.
As the guys waited for the girls to arrive Ron was drumming away on his knee when he looks up at Neville. "Nervous Neville?" Neville can only nod as he paces back and forth. "Relax mate," he says reassuringly. "Just remember to breathe before you pass out."
Neville begins to breathe as the other guys laugh at him. "I'm not sure how you ever survived for as long as you have Nev, but tonight's nothing to worry about." Fred says still laughing.
"Worst that can happen," George takes over. "Is she turns you down and you're still alone. No big deal."
"Hate to say this," Harry chimes in. "But they're right you know. If she says no then nothing's really changed so don't worry about it."
Neville nodded actually beginning to calm down. "You guys are right." He smiles thinking about what they said. "I really hope she says yes, but if she doesn't then nothing has changed and it's no big deal."
"What's no big deal?" A voice asks from the doorway. They all look and see Ginny standing in the doorway with the rest of the girls standing behind her. At that point poor Neville faints dead way.
They revive him and before Hunter gives them their last pep talk before the show. "Alright this is it," he begins. "This is way the band came together." He looks at each and every one of them and smiles. "Ladies and Gentlemen it has been an honor to share this journey with all of you. Now lets go out there and give them a show that Hogwarts will never forget."
Hunter looks out at the sea of faces before them and the tiger with-in finally settles down. "Are you all ready to rock?" The crowd erupts with screams and shouts. "Then let's get this party started."
This ain't a song for the broken-hearted. No silent prayer for the faith departed. I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd. You're gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud.
Even though many of the students there had never even heard muggle music, much less American rock, they all are almost instantly caught up in the wave of energy pouring off the stage. The teachers watch the students dance out on the floor as they too enjoy the feeling of celebration the song provokes in them.
{It's my life.} It's now or never. I ain't gonna live forever. I just gonna live while I'm alive. {It's my life.} My heart is lied on open highway. Like Frankie said, “I did it my way.” I just gonna live while I'm alive. {It's my life.}
Despite himself and despite his absolute hatred for the members of the band performing, Professor Snape had to admit that the they knew what they were doing. He also hated to admit that their opening song seemed like appropriate given the current situation. What was it that muggle philosopher once said? "Eat, drink and make merry for tomorrow we die." Seems to be the theme for tonight.
This is for the ones who stood their ground. It’s for Tommy and Gina who never backed down. Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake. Luck ain't enough, you’ve gotta make your own breaks.
Professor Lupin smiles watching Hunter and the others up on stage as the perform. Dumbledore had been right, this is exactly what the students needed. Let them enjoy their childhood while they still can. There's no telling how soon the war will begin to effect them. Let them have these last precious moments while they still can.

Professor McGonagall beamed with pride as her students performed with such energy and passion. Her normally stern and professional demeanor was forgotten for the few moments that her kids played the song. She cared about all the students she taught but she always had a special place in her heart for those of her house. Especially for those who have a special gift that makes them stand out above the rest.
You better stand tall when they're calling you out. Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down.
Professor Dumbledore watched the students dancing and the band performing as he smiled. The wise old wizard knew in they were entering dark days once again and that moments like these would be few and far between if Voldermort wasn't stopped soon. Treasure these days my children, for they might not come again for a along while.
