Chapter 17 ~ Hermione’s Decision #2

Hermione made it all the way to the Spells lab before she stumbled in her high heels. She leaned against the counter and wrenched both shoes off, before continuing her flight to her rooms. She ran until she made it to her bedroom, and flung herself on the bed, sobbing with emotion. She hadn’t known what to expect from Severus tonight, and to know he had lived in so much fear was heart-wrenching. She hadn’t known. She’d thought they were both happy. She never realized her strong, dark, reserved Potions Master lived with such a terrible secret. How did he live with the constant uncertainty? No, he wouldn’t have told her. He couldn’t admit that he was worrying over something that wasn’t concrete, a threat that only he perceived. So for seven years, he had been afraid of what losing her love would do to him. No wonder he would claim her so desperately, require her to tell him in the throes of passion that she was his. It was how he reassured himself she was real, living, breathing and within his grasp, when she opened her heart and her body to receive him, to comfort him, to be his alone.

Hermione wiped her eyes. If she hadn’t left, she’d be under him right now…she knew. She had never felt such an outpouring of love rise up inside her before, and it overwhelmed her. She understood now, and was almost frightened by his need for her. She knew he loved her, but she never knew how much, how desperately he needed her. And he had expressed himself so eloquently, so sincerely…the truth all came pouring out from him as if it had been damned up inside, and the levy suddenly crumbled. And she knew it was the truth. It wasn’t an attempt to say all the right things a man says to a woman to win her back He told her it had been his intention from the first to use her and cast her aside. Only honesty would make someone admit that to someone they were trying to mend a relationship with. She knew this though, she worked hard to become the reluctant wizard’s lover. She pursued him, never knowing he was running from his own fears of finding happiness, only to lose it again, settling him even deeper in the darkness that was his life. She had never realized how much of himself he had given her when he told her he loved her. She was just happy he did, not thinking there was a price for love, and that price is you become vulnerable. Hermione was always vulnerable, but Severus had a wall around him, and pushed others away so they couldn’t inflict any more pain upon him than he was already experiencing. Those walls held him together when he was hated and reviled by the very people he was protecting. And she had broken through them, leaving him open to destruction at her hand.

She had been attracted to Marcus, just for an inkling, before he became her friend. And this attraction must have ripped Severus’ heart from his chest, and made all his fears fall on him like a pile of stones. It wasn’t her fault, of course…but having heard what was in his heart all these years, she understood what happened between them. She also felt that it would never happen again. He had learned, and she had learned too. He would always be possessive of her. But now, she knew what was in his heart, and could alleviate his pain, his insecurity. It was hard to think of Severus as insecure, but then again, it had been hard to think of Severus as loving anyone. He had proven he was capable of love. And a person capable of love, is capable of other lesser emotions that love entails, including the less desirable ones. And Severus, being the dark man that he was, was understandably gravitated to the darker side of love. It was up to her to bring him and keep him in the light

Hermione felt her heart catch. She had always loved Severus, but now she felt she loved him even more with this new understanding. She would return to him. To his life, to his arms and to his bed. She felt her belly give a lurch. His bed. Gods how she missed his passion, his incredible possession, and his earth-shattering orgasms. Her body clutched in upon itself, and burst.

“Oh gods,” she moaned as she climaxed, falling back on the bed. Damn. How did he do that to her? Easy, because she loved him so much that even the thought of him moved her, emotionally and physically. She sighed, and rode out the pleasurable sensations, thinking how much sweeter it would be if Severus were coming with her, which only intensified her release. It was a while before she came back to herself.

Poor Severus. He was in his rooms, not knowing what just happened. For a moment, she considered going back and telling him what was in her heart, but decided against it. She wouldn’t leave then. She wouldn’t have the strength, and she wanted their first time making love again to be beautiful and unrushed. To be able spend the night together and wake in each others arms without Severus having to leap out of bed and hurry to his classes. They would wait until the weekend to re-establish their physical bond. What a delicious reunion that would be.

Hermione stood up and pulled her gown over her head, slinging it unceremoniously to the floor as she yawned. She slipped off her soaking wet panties and dropped them too. She did a quick scourgify on herself and climbed into bed, the silk sheets wreaking havoc on her sensitized skin. A little thrill went through her as she thought of telling Severus her decision, and being able to wrap her arms around his lean, muscular frame and kiss him again, feeling him respond. She felt the familiar throbbing between her thighs.

“Oh no, you don’t.” she whispered to her treacherous body, rolling over, wrapping herself in the sheets and thinking of the Headmaster, offering her lemon drops in his tidy-whiteys.

The next day, Hermione had a quick breakfast in her rooms, and went to find Marcus, to tell him the happy news. She found him in his office. He looked up at her, and gave her an uncertain smile. He motioned to the chair in front of his desk, and she plopped down into it, looking at him eagerly.

“So, what is the verdict?” he asked, studying her. By the flush on her face and the twinkle in her eye, he already knew the answer. Damn it. Had he fucked her?

“I’ve decided to go back to him,” she breathed, “he’s done all that I asked. I understand better now. It can work.”

Marcus leaned back in his chair, a small frown on his face.

Then he asked, “Are you sure you’re making the right decision, Hermione?”

“Yes,” she said firmly.

He studied her for a moment, then gave her his biggest, broadest smile.

“Then I’m behind you one hundred percent. I’m happy for you,” he lied, wanting to strangle the smile off her face.

“Thank you, Marcus. That means a lot to me,” she replied softly, smiling at him.

Marcus sudden looked dramatically sad.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, concerned at the change in her friend.

“Well,” Marcus said, “We never got a chance to go dancing. Now that you are descending back into the pit, we’ll probably never get to do it. You will be so wrapped up in ‘making up’ and all that.”

Hermione looked at him. She had already cancelled their flying the night before. And he was probably right. Once she and Severus came to an understanding, she could count on a few nights away, making up for lost time. She looked at her friend and came to a decision.

“We can go dancing Friday night then, all right?” she said, hoping this would cheer him. It did.

“Oh, great!” he responded with enthusiasm, “Finally I get to see you cut a rug! I know just the spot. The Aurora. It’s a club in outer Hogsmeade, a few miles from the village. Very popular. Very hot. Wizards and muggles-in-the-know go there, a nice mixed crowd. We’ll have dinner, then trip the Light Fantastic. It will be your send-off from a life of singleness! Oh, we’re going to have a ball, Hermione,” he smiled at her. “Thank you.”

She smiled back. It really sounded like a night of fun. Severus had promised to take her out, and she was sure they would have a good time, but she couldn’t imagine him at a club with loud music, and sweaty bodies jiggling all around him…but who knows…maybe it would get him all riled up and randy. She grinned to herself at the idea. It was worth exploring. She stood up.

“Ok, then. We have a date for Friday night. I’m really looking forward to it, Marcus,” she leaned over the desk and kissed his cheek then headed for the door.

“Wear your dancing shoes!” Marcus called behind her as she closed the door.

He sat back in the chair. He was furious about her accepting Severus again, but he always knew it was a possibility. But there were possibilities for Friday night as well. Great possibilities. Maybe he couldn’t have her the way he wanted to, now that Severus was back in the picture, but maybe he could have her just once, to satisfy his curiosity and his lusts. He’d have to work on the details between now and tomorrow night. After all his hard work, he deserved something for his efforts in courting the stupid little bitch. He was going to get his bit.

He was determined to. He hated losing.
