Ten Years- Part 14
It had been a month since Severus moved to Naples with Hermione. Severus was helping her brew potions and run her Apocrathy as well as helping her take her data on the Remus Tonic to St. Mungo’s and the Ministry of Magic. The Daily Prophet had run a story on the gruesome murder of Kelly and asking the public to keep an eye out for Harry.
“Hello Hermione.” Neville Longbottom greeted as she and Severus entered one of the lifts at the Ministry.
“Hello Neville. How are you doing?” Hermione replied.
“Doing good. Me and Parvati are talking about going on a second honeymoon later this year. How are you and Professor Snape doing?” Neville answered.
“We’re doing fine Mr. Longbottom. Of course we’d be doing a lot better if we could find Mr. Potter.” Severus said.
“I understand that. I still can’t believe that he’s changed so much that he would threaten you and Hermione and kill his ex-wife. The strangest thing is that no one from the Quidditch team has seen him. It‘s as if he‘s completely disappeared.” Neville said sadly.
“Well, this is our stop. It was nice seeing you Neville. Perhaps when this mess is over you and Parvati could come over to our place for dinner or something.” Hermione suggested.
“I’d like that. Take care and watch your backs.” Neville said as Hermione and Severus got out of the lift.
Hermione and Severus walked down the hallway and headed for Arthur Weasley’s office. They knocked and Arthur called out for them to enter. They walked in and found him talking with Nymphoria Tonks and Kingsley Shacklebolt.
“Hello you two. Please have a seat.” Arthur said with a weary smile.
“Any news Arthur?” Severus asked.
“Yes. Tonks, you want to go first?” Arthur answered.
“Last night I was on my way home when I spotted Marcus Flint talking with someone. I didn’t think anything of it at first until I noticed how they were behaving. They were always looking over their shoulders and talking in whispered voices. I snuck into a cluster of trees and moved closer. Marcus was talking to Harry.
“Harry was asking Marcus if he would be willing to help him. Marcus asked what was in it for him. Harry told Marcus that if he agreed, he would be paid 1,000,000 Galleons once the task was done. Marcus agreed. They then agreed to meet tonight at the abandoned docks on the east side of London.” Tonks reported.
“Okay, so now what happens? I have to stay here in London for at least two days to finalize all the data for the tonic and meet with a potions publicist.” Hermione said.
“That’s why I’m here. I’ll be following you and Severus just to make sure that Harry or Marcus do not find you or try to hurt you. I swear that you two won’t even know that I’m there. Are you staying at the Leaky Cauldron?” Kingsley replied.
“No. We’re staying at the Hilton a few blocks away. We decided to stay somewhere closer. Just in case Potter did show up.” Severus answered.
“Okay. That’s the plan. With any luck, by this time tomorrow we’ll have Harry in custody and find out what’s wrong with him and why he’s after Hermione. For now, I want you two to continue with business as usual. All right.” Arthur instructed.
Hermione and Severus nodded. They said good bye to Tonks and Arthur, then left with Kingsley behind them. They made their way to the labs at the Ministry. They spent the next four hours copying and placing the data in order so the publicist could look it over. Once done, Hermione and Severus left and headed to get something to eat.
“I hate being followed.” Hermione grumbled.
“I know love, but it’s for the best. Kingsley is the best and one of the strongest Aroras at the Ministry. Don’t worry, this will all be over soon.” Severus reassured her.
The couple entered a nearby café to get something to eat. As they sat and ate, they talked about their upcoming wedding. They had agreed they would get married in Naples since Severus too had fallen in love with the city. They had even set a date. May 15th. It was in ten months. They had already sent out the invitations to their friends and family.
“When are we going to put the announcement in the Daily Prophet?” Hermione asked.
“Let’s wait and see what happens tonight. If they catch Potter, I’ll take it in to the Daily Prophet myself first thing in the morning.” Severus answered.
“And if he gets away?” she questioned.
“Then we’ll wait and go from there.” Severus replied as he reached over the table and took her hand in his.
The couple finished their meal, paid the bill and began to make their way back to the hotel. Kingsley followed a good distance behind, but close enough that he could help them if they needed it. Hermione and Severus had completely forgotten about Kingsley as they made their way up to their room.
Once safely in their room, Hermione and Severus were immediately in each other’s arms and their lips locked in a heated kiss. They began to stumble their way over to the bedroom door. Suddenly a figure stepped out from the corner and hit Severus upside the head. Hermione let out a scream and a second later, she and the stranger were gone, leaving an unconscious Severus laying on the floor.
“Severus! Hermione!” Kingsley yelled as he burst into the room.
He quickly spotted Severus and ran to him. He checked the man’s pulse and sighed with relief when he found it strong and steady. He quickly conjured a glass of water and poured it onto Severus’s face.
“Huh? What? Hermione? Where is she? What happened?” Severus sputtered as he came too.
“I don’t know Severus. What happened? Do you remember?” Kingsley asked.
“Hermione and I were kissing and heading for the bedroom. Next thing I remember was seeing you. Where is she?” Severus answered.
“I don’t know. I was outside checking out the hallway when I heard Hermione scream. I came running in and found you on the floor and Hermione gone.” Kingsley explained.
“God Damnit! Potter’s got her. I bet anything Marcus Flint was the one who hit me over the head with this and grabbed Hermione. We’ve got to get to Arthur. Now!” Severus said as he pointed to the candlestick laying beside him.
The two wizards got to their feet and apparated back to the Ministry. At the same time in an abandoned warehouse, Hermione was tied to a chair and glaring evilly at Marcus Flint who sat in front of her.
“You know, I figured you would have put up much more of a fight mudblood. Everyone had said you had developed quite the attitude since leaving Hogwarts, but I’ve yet to see it.” Marcus taunted.
“Untie me and you’ll see what kind of attitude I have you fucking bastard.” Hermione hissed.
“Ohh. Touchy. As much as I would love to see that, I think I would be safer if I didn’t. Besides, I wouldn’t want to damage Potter’s little prize. After all, I’m getting paid an awful lot of money for delivering you to him.” Marcus said with a greedy smile.
Hermione simply rolled her eyes and looked away. If only Marcus didn’t have her wand, she’d show him. Suddenly an idea hit her. She knew that Harry was coming here tonight, so did Arthur and the Aroras and probably the Order. If she could just sit tight, they would be coming here and then Harry would be caught.
“What does Harry want with me anyway?” Hermione demanded.
“How the hell should I know. He didn’t say and frankly I don’t give a shit why. All I care about is getting paid.” Marcus answered.
Back at the Ministry Severus and Kingsley told Arthur what had happened. Arthur sat behind his desk with a thoughtful look on his face. After a long while, he finally spoke.
“We will do nothing at the moment. And before you start yelling Severus, hear me out. Harry is meeting Marcus tonight. It’s no doubt to collect Hermione. I’m sure Hermione’s figured that out by now. We will proceed as planned. Kingsley, go alert the Order about the situation and tell them the plan will continue as we agreed.” Arthur explained.
Kingsley nodded and quickly left the office. Severus got to his feet and began to pace. He knew Arthur was right, but the idea of Hermione being caught up in the crossfire is what scared him.
“Severus, Hermione is a fighter. She always has been. You know that. You saw that yourself. Hermione will be fine.” Arthur said calmly.
“I know that Arthur, it’s just, what if Potter’s so far gone that he uses Hermione as a shield to get away. You saw what he did to hi ex-wife, what’s to say he wouldn’t kill Hermione just to get away?” Severus explained.
“I’ve thought about that too. I’m hoping that we can get there and take Harry down quickly. Besides, didn’t you say Hermione could do wandless magic?” Arthur asked.
“Yes.” Severus replied.
“Then I don’t think we have to worry about her. If Hermione’s temper has grown like I’ve heard, then Harry is in much more trouble than he realizes. Trust me, a witch like Hermione pissed off is not someone I would want to take on.” Arthur said.
Severus sighed. He knew Arthur was right. Hermione would be fine and Harry Potter would be caught. He only hoped the fates were on their side when and if the fighting started that night. With a sigh he sat back down and waited with Arthur on word from the Order.
