Chapter 17
Disclaimer: Same as the chapters before....
Rileywolf133: Squeee!!! I love reviews!! *ahem* I actually wrote them both, especially Snape, OOC and totally non-canon on purpose. So far, where I\'ve posted it, I\'ve not gotten any flames for it, so maybe that\'s a good thing? Anyway, here\'s the last chapter!! Enjoy!
ladyevilfaerie: Asking Dumbledore to do that for him was his way of apologizing for getting drunk before the ball. *grins* Also, knowing the kids were going to find out was part of the reason he was having such a violent reaction to a case of nerves. LOL!! Being such a private person and all...
semperputus: *glomps semperputus* When I woke this morning, I had 102 reviews, three with today\'s date. I don\'t know if you were 100, or 102, but thank you for putting me over the century mark in my reviews!! I\'m surprised no one\'s figured out the end!! *blinks* I think I put everything there...maybe it was too subtle...anyway, here\'s the end. I think you\'ll be plesantly surprised. =D
A/N: I want to send out a sincere thank you to everyone who\'s read my story and reviewed. I woke this morning with 102 total reviews. I\'ve got to have the best readers and reviewers in the world!! I joined this site on Christmas Day, not even one month ago, and in that time you guys have reviewed me over 100 times. Words can not adequately express my excitement and joy at waking up this morning to find my review count. Thanks so much guys! You are the reason I\'m here and will continue to write and post. You guys rock!!
A/N2: One more and then we\'ll get on the the story... This \"...\" means thoughts inside dreams.
ON WITH THE STORY!!
That night, before Hermione and Severus fell asleep, she told him about her dream from earlier that day. “Love, potions are my thing, not dreams. I’m really not sure what to make of it.” With that, he fell asleep.
Snape had a very interesting dream that night.
“Dad,” came a small voice. “Dad, can you hear me?”
Severus sat deathly quiet when he heard the voice. Is that voice talking to me? He thought to himself.
“Dad,” a little raven haired girl said as she took Snape’s hand. “Do you hear me?”
Snape smiled at the little girl and shook his head. She looked just like his sister, except for her eyes, they were…different. She led him across a bridge. They stopped in the middle and she watched the water running below them. “Dad,” she said, “there’s no going back.”
He smiled and answered her, “I know.”
She led him onward. They walked through a deserted Hogsmeade to Hogwarts. Everything looked perfectly peaceful on the grounds. He could even hear the giant squid lazily splashing in the lake. A young Hermione sat on the front steps of the school. She was crying. Ron put his arm around her shoulder. “Did you really think that anything could ever possibly happen?”
Her face was streaked with tears. “Ron, that’s not the point! He sent me this,” she said thrusting out a small parchment. “He could have told me that it was a joke!”
“Hermione, you know that Draco is a git. You also know that Snape is a bigger git. Do you really expect anything less from a Slytherin?”
The little girl led him down to the dungeons and into his classroom. Snape watched from the door as his younger self pushed Harry’s beaker from the edge of his desk with a sneer. Harry turned around to face the potion’s master with pure hatred in his eyes. “Seems as though you’ll be getting another zero for marks, Potter.”
At that moment, Harry looked at his cauldron. Hermione was staring at Snape with her mouth gaping open, “I’m sorry Harry, I thought you were done!” His cauldron had been completely cleaned up, as had his work area.
Snape looked at himself. I was an awful person, he thought. He looked at the little girl. “Do you want to see more, Father?”
Severus shook his head and they turned back and walked toward the doors of the school.
Severus bolted upright in his bed. He was covered in a sheen of sweat and he was panting. He looked at Hermione who was sleeping peacefully and debated on waking her to tell her his dream. He decided against it.
Yule came and went, and classes started again after the new year. Hermione did not go back to work, though. Compounded by the fact that right after Yule she started having severe morning sickness, she was growing bigger by the day and was having dreams every night that woke her several times. She became convinced that the child growing within her was a seer. How else could the little girl invade their dreams?
She would visit and talk to Hermione almost nightly. Severus was visited many times a week, and Ronnie, who seemed more open to it, was visited every time he slept.
Most days, Hermione could be found in the library reading everything she could find on true seers. She even talked to Sybil Trelawney. There was nothing that suggested that the child should be a seer. Hermione finally began to try to notice little details in her dreams. Nothing. All that the little girl did was turn her dreams from the nightmares to pleasant walks and intriguing talks.
As winter faded into spring, Ronnie stopped talking about his dreams and ‘Sophie’. Severus began sleeping more restlessly, and Hermione all but stopped sleeping.
When she did sleep, her dreams were filled with the little girl.
“Mum, it’s almost time, you know that don’t you?”
“I do dearest and I can’t say that I am not happy that you are almost here. It will be nice to have another girl around the house.”
“Since you first started dreaming about me, have you learned anything?”
“I have love. I’ve learned that one need not have seers in the family to have a child with true sight. I’ve also learned that sometimes it takes a lot of help to finally truly heal.”
“Healing is not all that I’ve come to teach you. But, if you haven’t realized it by now, you will when I get there.”
With that, the little girl walked into the shadows. Hermione did not see her in her last two months of pregnancy. She was saddened by the fact that the little girl no longer talked to her, but the healing that Hermione and Severus both so desperately needed from the death of their loved ones was almost complete.
Neither dreamed of death any more. Their dreams were filled with life. The life they’d created. The life they’d lived. Mostly, their dreams held the promise of life to come.
On May 28th at 5:15AM, Hermione went into labor. Severus magic-ed her a stretcher and the practically flew to the infirmary. Dumbledore contacted the Weasleys, and most of the staff was there for the occasion. Harriet Rose Snape was born as the suns rays broke the horizon at 6:11AM that day.
Hermione held her daughter for the first time and realized that she was the child in her dreams. Severus let out a small gasp when he laid his eyes on her. Ronnie just grinned smugly and called her \'Sophie\'. In honor of the joyous occasion, Dumbledore canceled all classes that day and decorated the whole castle in pink banners that read “Congratulations Professor and Mrs. Snape on your new arrival!”
It was almost four weeks later and Harriet woke in the night crying. Severus climbed out of bed and prepared the little girls bottle. When he lit the candles in her room, she stopped crying and looked at him. He scooped her up and looked into her deep emerald eyes. In that instant he knew and he hugged her closely. He knew what ‘matters’ Harry had to attend to. Smiling at his daughter, he decided he’d wait until morning to tell Hermione.
