Chapter 17

Brandon woke nextnext morning amidst screaming girls. Dazed and properly confused as the swarm of screaming females pulled him from where he lay onto the floor, beating him in the head with pillows. Trying in vain to cover his head as they wailed against him, he started shouting things like, ‘No, please, stop! I can explain.”

Apparently, they were not listening. Hermione Granger sat in her bed; she had taken the bed sheet and pulled it up to cover her bosom. The door was blasted open and in ran McGonagall, for a moment she stood there somewhat shell-shocked. ‘How in the blazes did he get past the wards?’ “Mister Nefis—explain yourself, directly. How—why are you in here?! You”, she screamed, pointing at Lavender and Parvati, “Go fetch Professor Snape. Do Not Dally!”

Brandon was not certain what to do… he looked over at Hermione, who was still sitting in her bed with the covers drawn. ‘She looks radiant”, thought Brandon. Brandon could hear the idle chatter of the Transfiguration teacher, however, his brain was not allowing for what she was saying. This was remedied quickly.

For the second time in merely weeks, Brandon was once again tossed up against a wall by the Potions Master. “Mr. Nefis…why are you in the girls’ dormitory, especially the Gryffindor Girls Dormitory? Truly, I had no idea that you were in need of an escort to your chambers, this is somet tha that I will rectify immediately. Do I need to draw you a map? How about leaving cracker crumbs for you and your dimwittedness to follow?”

Brandon looked about the room, Hermione looked flush, embarrassed, McGonagall just looked angry. Everyone else had scattered with Snape walked in. “Father, I just needed to be close to her after what happened…after the incident.” Brandon did a very good impression of a boy wondering if that was hammertoe or simply an overgrown toe nail on his foot, trying to break the tension between all parties involved. Apparently, his acting skills needed to be honed.

“Son, what part of ‘leave my student alone’ do you not understand?”

“Nothing happened!” Brandon shouted. “I swear, I did not lay one pinky on her. Well, not on anything remotely private. Her hairlls lls fabulous, lianilanilla ice cream or birthday cake.” Severus could stand no more of the drippy words that his son was languishing him with. Brandon was unceremoniously dropped onto the floor, crashing into the dustbin with his behind.

“Great Merlin…what has your mother done to you? You are a babbling idiot.”

McGonagall snorted. She should have known that any type of expression of love would be dismissed by Severus.

“Young man”, McGonagall started, “how did you get in here. These rooms are warded against males entering them?”

“I don’t know…it wasn’t hard, I just willed myself into this room.”

“What my son fails to understand about himself is that he is a Lamia. He had no idea what that means, do you Brandon?”

Brandon just looked at the great bat of the dungeons, was he going to give him some background?

“Miss Granger has a very astute knowledge of the library. Maybe, she would be willing to acquaint you with Qui Quite rightly, it could be an activity the two of you could do with your clothes on and away from a bed.” Severus was dripping with hatefulness.

Brandon gave a small huff; of course the bat would not tell him a damn thing.

Severus Snape moved to open Granger’s door; there was a circling of girls outside the door waiting to see if the boy lived or not. Snape turned and said in the lowest, smarmiest voice that he could, “Yours and Mr. Malfoy’s actions have caused for me to have a very trying morning. Not to mention last night and into the wee hours of this day. I think that on top of your already three week detention with Filtch, another week with Madame Pomprey should work nicely with the vision that I have of you empting bed pans, manually.” Snape swept from the room, seven or eight strides down the hall, he turned and noticed that the was was not on his heels, “Mr. Nefis, I strongly suggest that you leave Miss Granger’s quarters, NOW!”

It was a long walk through the giggling pack of females, even longer through the common room where all the boys were standing there glaring at him, but Brandon was certain that the longest walk he had ever experienced came from the one he took from the portrait to the dungeons.

Severus sat in his sitting room and poured himself a stiff drink. Brandon had had the nerve to follow him into his chambers. Wondering what he could be held accountable for if he was to hex the bastard right off the chair where he sat, Snape turned and snapped, “Go get your partner in crime.”

Draco was not happy on several levels. One, the chit he was to marry was wailing, again. Two, being invited to Snape’s personal quarters was never, ever a smart thing. Three, he was still reeling from the night before, I mean really, seeing the nasty snake up close and personal had not made him piss himself, but he was damned near close.

Dragging himself away from the textbook that he was currently engrossed in, Draco followed Brandon to the bowels of hell.

Severus Snape, mastermind of untruths, follower of—well, no one really, bastard professor at Hogwarts, blood-sucking vampire, was waiting, patiently, for the boys to make their appearance. Murder. That was what was on his mind, murder, simple as that. He was a wizard, he could throttle the boys, dump them in a ravine where Muggles wonder, then just play stupid, oroopeooperative. Yes, all in all, he was uncooperative.

“What do the two of you think that you are playing with? Do you think me so moronic that I am unaware of your activities on or away from this property? How much longer am I to go out of my way to save your hides from the Headmaster, the authorities? Do you think that Fudge, the idiot dolt that he may be, will just look at the two of you and think, ‘They are only boy’s, they meant no harm.’ Tell me, when will you two learn not only to control your person but also the women that you obviously have chosen to attach yourselves too.” Snape’s back was to the boys, his voice cold and distant. He kept speaking, giving the boys the complete impression that they were to listen and only listen. “Draco, how very kind of you to give into your carnal desires with Miss Dolohov, what happened to her only being, how did you put it, oh, yes, a child. I spent most of my remaining morning being wept on, because, you obviously have ‘no feelings whatsoever for her’ and ‘just wanted to make her look stupid’. I do not like whining girls, my wife does not whine, all those damned tears give me a headache. Control your libido.” He turned and faced the boys, pointing a finger at the sofa across from him. “And you, you little shit, I brought you into this world, I’ll take you out. Do you read me?”

“Yes, Father.”

Yes, Professor.”

“Your little lastlast night caused the both of you to be introduced to the Dark Lord earlier than both Lucius and I planned. I suggest that you try to keep a low-profile, unless you want to take the mark before you are of age?”

Snape took a long pull on his drink. As he brought it down, he yelled, “GET OUT!”

The boys scrambled to the doorway, Draco could not help himself; he turned and carefully said, “Professor, how did you know about last night? And why was Percy Weasley there? And what did Echo tell you?”

“Mr. Malfoy, I have been suggesting all fucking year that you and my idiot boy there go to the library and figure thiout.out. No, the two of you are dolts for brains and refuse to take even the smallest advice. Research the little hex you placed on your intended…research the Lamia heritage. Hell, o…fio…find out who Echo was or is…now, once again…GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!!”

“Is he always this pleasant at school?” Brandon asked as they walked back to their common room.

“Yes, you know that boy Neville? He is a Gryffindor? Yeah, he pissess himself each time Snape looks at him. Mean and ornery, that’s what Snape is. Most think he needs to get laid, no offense, I have seen the woman he beds…truly spectacular female.”

“You are aware that she is my mother?”

“Like you haven’t drooled over mine.”

Hermione had been the talk of the school. The new boy, the hot new boy, had crawled in bed with her, and they had been caught! His hands tangled up in her hair, her nose buried in his neck. Yes, gossip was a stirring.

The entire Order sat in Dumbledore’s office. Snape was having a hard time remaining not only awake, but coherent enough not to blast everyone. Sirius Black and emus Lupin were about to break his self-control.

“Let me get this straight, your son and the Malfoy kid snuck off grounds, got pissed, stood some girls up against the wall, passed out in the grass, then interfered with a Death Eater Raid, which ended in Brandon destroying the last remaining wood nymph? Merlin Severus…had it been a Gryffindor expulsion would be inevitable!” Remus Lupin was pacing the floors. “How did Voldemort react to Brandon?”

“As I expected, Brandon will be at the top of the recruitment list.”

“Sweet Mary, the boy can not be allowed to run wild. If we loose him…” Remus did not have time to finish this thought. Severus was on his feet, holding Remus by the collar, raising him high above the ground. “Do you not think that I am aware of the danger my son is in?” Snape’s voice was thick and hollow. The low baritone was rattling in his chest and Remus could feel it reverberating through him. “I have lived many years trying to protect my family from harm. I have spent more than half my life trying to right a wrong that I did out of foolishness and broken pride. My wife and my children have put up with the fact that I am never around. My wife has patched me back together more times that I could even count and never once complained about my duties. I know for a fact that she thinks that my loyalties are a bit jagged. If it were up to her, we would be living a peaceful life somewhere in the Congo, where no one could locate us. I do not want my children to fall into the same patterns that I did. My god’s man, I would love to breathe another day to watch my grandchildren born, to make love to my wife one more time, to see Bethy’s beautiful face when she walks the aisle to start a life with a man… not a dark man but a real man, that would treat her fairly and equally.” Snape released Lupin. Looking around at all of the shocked faces, his eyes fell to the two people that had always believed in him, Dumbledore and McGonagall, “My days are numbered, the Dark Lord will not let me live to see the final battle. When I am gone, I want my family to have a better life. I want joy and laughter in their faces. I want to be sure that they are taken care of.”

“I hate it when you say such things, Severus.” McGonagall was standing and walking towards him, crying. “I hate it when you tell me that you expect to die. We will not allow such a thing to happen to you.”

Severus looked at the old woman who more closely resembled a mother figure to him rather than collogue or friend. He reached his hand to her face and brushed away her tears. “Woman, I have three loyal friends in this world. You and Albus have been wonderful to me, I know that without a doubt you two would forfeit your lives for me, the rest of this order is patiently awaiting the news of my demise. I can hardly blame them, I have played a role of the hateful professor for so long, it is more me than not. No one, not even the-boy-who-lived-to-be-a-pain-in-my-ass can save me from the future.” Severus turned to leave the Headmaster’s office, exhausted and in dire need of rest.

Sirius, who had been smart enough to sit in the corner and wait out the scene that played in front of him, cleared his throat, “Snape, you said three?”

Severus stoppeduciuucius. He would forfeit his life, just as I would do for him.”

With that, Severus Snape left the Headmaster’s office.

Draco and Brandon sat in the far corner of the library. Both reading out of books that they had never known existed. Snape was right; they really should have looked this information up a long time ago. The s ths that the boys read had flustered and frightened them both. Lamia’s were not to be messed with. Echo’s past was honestly intriguing. The fascination with Hermione was explained. How Brandon had gotten into the girls dorm room, well, that was just freaky. Both of the boys needed answers, who could they go to that they could trust?

A/N: I am so sorry for the delays...school mid-terms are overwhelming to an old 30-year-old with loads of children...I need a job where I can stay home and play on my computer!
