When I round the corner I easily spot my father in a shaded alcove. Father is looking majestic as always, standing rod straight with deep royal blue robes swirling around his still form. His mouth is set in a pleased smirk and his eyes are hard silver shards that pierce into my form as I move closer.

"Father," I say in greeting when I am a little less than a foot away.

"Draco, your Mother sends her regards."

I nod my head at the standard greeting though I can't hide all of the tension in my body as my Father accesses my person.

"How are your classes progressing thus far?"

"Very well, Father. I am undoubtedly top in all of my classes.

"As expected." Father says, his silver headed cane rested firmly into his gloved hand. "Though I am pleased of your transition to Hogwarts that is not why I asked to speak with you."

"Of course."

"What is the nature of your relationship with the Potter boy?"

"To form future alliances of course, Father. I am only doing what is expec--"

"Yes, I'm well aware of the duty of a Malfoy: the Malfoy name before all else. I am especially aware of certain advantages that having an alliance with Potter can cultivate. That is not what I am questioning, it is your motives that have me suspicious."

"Father, I believe that having Potter on our side can bring us many political advances in the futu--"

"Draco, as I stated I am aware of this. Do not make me repeat myself. What I wish to know is why Mr. Potter is carrying around Miss Parkinson's engagement ring."

"Father. That's--"

"Do not lie to me, Draco."

"Father, the ring was giving into my care until Pansy's and my engagement is officially announced during her fourteenth birthda--"

"Draco, again I am aware of this. Let me be more specific with you. Why is that ring in the possession of Mr. Potter?"

I take in a deep breath. All of my talking was implemented for buying me more time in which to come up with a suitable excuse for the question which was inevitable from the moment my Father entered into the Headmasters' office. However, it has done nothing more than anger my Father, which would have been worth it if only I had come up with a suitable excuse. I have not.

"Father, wha--" I have almost said what better place to keep something safe than on the boy-who-lived? After all, he did defeat the Dark Lord. That definitely would have gotten me in trouble, not only for the obvious lie of why the rind is in Harry's possession, but for speaking of the forbidden--the defeat of our Lord.

"Father," I start over again. When one can not think up a suitable lie then the easiest thing to do is tell the truth. "I have marked Harry. I wish for him to be my first pet."

Father stares at me all of two seconds before letting out a deep chuckle. "Well, well, Draco. Perhaps you have advanced in Hogwarts more than just academically. Your Mother and I will await your return from Hogwarts during Yule Tide with more anticipation than expected. There is much you cannot learn at Hogwarts, and indeed it seems as if you are ready. Perhaps we will even make it a family occasion. Your aunt Bella always did have a thing for little boys. Until then, Draco..."

"Goodbye, Father." I say softly, almost to myself as I am unsure if my voice carried in the long corridor.

"Expect an owl post from me, Draco," Father calls over his shoulder. I nod my head in agreement though it is clear my Father cannot see. No vocal agreement is necessary, however, as there is no way anyone would ever disobey my Father. When my Father rounds the corner, heading towards the way of Hogwarts' entrance I let out a sigh of relief, extremely relieved of my Father's exit. The promise of what awaits me on Yule Tide has me feeling excitement at the unknown and fear as well.

I stand in the alcove, thinking up all different kinds of possibilities of what will await me during Yule Tide. When Father left he seemed in greater a mood than when he arrived so the promise has to be something that means pleasure to me. No matter the fact that my Father mentioned aunt Bella and anything and aunt Bella usually meant pain. Lots and lots of pain...
