Birthday Greetings!

"Severus Snape! Open this door!" the woman shouted once more, anger evident in her voice.

Snape sat completely still, scowling at the dying embers of his fire.

A strange whirring sound drew him from his black reverie, then the door slammed shut. The angry woman stamped the snow from her feet in his entryway, muttering to herself.

"Tromped all the way over here, in this mess, on my holiday, and the bloody bastard won't open the door? We'll see about this." She unzipped her boots and stomped in stocking feet to his sitting room.

"Here, you ingrate, I brought you a present."

"I don't want any presents," he growled refusing to look at the proffered box.

"You will open this. You will express gratitude. And, you will use this!" she shouted, bopping him in the shoulder with the box.

"Bloody woman. Can't you just leave me alone to brood?"

"Absolutely not. NOW! Open!"

Snape gingerly unfolded the silver paper and cracked open the lid of the wooden box. Peering inside, he found a nicely shaped leather paddle with a comfort-grip handle. Confused, he glared at the woman.

"What is this?"

"It was once customary to receive a blow for every year of your life on your birthday." The woman smiled at him evilly as she reached out to tuck his hair behind his ear. "Fifty strikes, yes?"

"I'll be receiving?" he asked increduously.

"Or giving," she answered softly as she pushed his hands aside to slip into his lap. "After all, it is your birthday.

"Bloody woman," he growled less angrily.

"Indeed," she sniped back just before kissing him soundly.

Just a quickie for Severus' birthday. Should he give or receive? Thanks for reading along!
