Chapter 16

Hi everyone, it's me again with another chapter. I hope you like it. ^^ Oh, and kudos to my awesome beta Slythindor for fixing it.
Chapter Sixteen

Pansy and Blaise stared off in the direction Draco had disappeared for a long time. “He- he left!” whispered Pansy in shock. “I knew he’d be irritated, but I only thought I’d get some more gossip from this whole thing, I didn’t think he’d go after her!”

A moment passed and Blaise spoke suddenly, as if he had come to an abrupt conclusion. “Draco’s sixteen now. The Malfoys are a really old family…… Do you think?”

“He has a mate! No way. But it does explain the temper. Do you think it’s the Chang girl or-”

“Potter! It can’t be, but he has always been rather taken with the Potter boy.”

“Even in first year he couldn’t leave him alone.”

“I remember.”

“We’ll support him of course.”

“What else could we do? He’s our leader, besides, Slytherins stick together.”

The train..

“Hey Harry? Are you in here?” came Ron’s voice from the doorway, causing Draco to jerk back from the almost kiss.

“What’s Malfoy doing in here?” said Ron eyeing the blond boy on his friends lap suspiciously.

“Hello Ron.” said Harry keeping his arm around Draco despite the boy’s struggling. “We have things to discuss, please sit down.”

Ron nodded and sat down immediately, he recognized the serious tone in his friend’s voice.

“First of all, how do you feel about Dumbledore?” asked Harry as Draco’s struggling subsided and he relaxed in Harry’s arms.

“I think his explanation of Hermione’s death was suspicious.” said Ron, looking down sadly.

“Hermione’s dead?”

“You didn’t know? She got torn apart or something. Dumbledore said she was doing a dark ritual for You-Know-who. It seemed really suspicious to me. This boy, Kyle I think, who just joined the order, thought so too.” Ron spoke steadily, but he couldn’t hide his shaking as he explained about the death of his ex-girlfriend and long time best friend.

“Remus was captured and tortured by Dumbledore. It was Animus Dico, soul call. The man is evil.” said Harry hurriedly, trying to distract Ron from his sadness.

“What!?”

“Yeah we’ve decided to leave his, Order and fight Voldemort on our own and perhaps Dumbledore as well.”

“After the usual amount of shock over the use of Moldyshort’s name, Ron spoke. “I’ll join you. An enemy of yours is an enemy of mine.”

“Don’t trust your family, except for the twins and the oldest two, they’ve been paid off. Even your parents are in on it.”

“Then… I guess I won't trust them, you’re more family to me then they are.”

Their voices faded away and the rest of the train ride was spent in silence.

At Hogwarts

“You idiot! You complete and utter imbecile!”

Cilly squeaked frightened.

“Not you Cilly. It’s that idiot, Dumbledore. He’s lost the boy, Potter. After all this time we’ve waited, Dumbledore has messed up and driven the boy away at the worst possible time! The boy doesn’t know our customs, our laws, not yet. How am I supposed to teach him if he doesn’t trust me because I work for that buffoon? What did that old fool do anyways?”

“Cilly- Cilly is not being Dumbledore’s house-elf.” The little creature volunteered quietly. “Cilly is being Snape’s house-elf so Cilly is being able to tell her Master Snape. Dobby is being a bad elf though. Dobby is being a Hogwarts elf and is speaking against the Headmaster and he is running away with Master Harry. He is trying to convince Cilly to come with him but I is refusing. I is learning why. Dobby is telling Cilly that the Headmaster is stealing Harry’s Mister Remus and is being mean to Dobby, but this is being after Master Harry is leaving and Dobby is not knowing why he is leaving in the first place.”

“Thank you Cilly, you have been very helpful.” said Snape looking at the house-elf with approval. ‘Why are house-elves always so long winded?’ he thought to himself.

“Cilly is always trying to help her Master Snape.”

“That is very good, Cilly.” Said Snape smiling kindly at the house-elf, or as kindly as he could, he wasn’t used to twisting his features into that particular expression. “There is a flower patter pillowcase in the top drawer of my dresser. It has the Prince crest, you will wear from now on, in addition to your current attire.”

Cilly smiled delightedly. A new pillowcase. This was a wonderful day. She would have to make sure Darily made Mister Snape’s favorite dish tonight. The feast was in only an hour, but there would be enough time.

“Thank you Master Snape. Cilly is leaving now. Cilly is having to help with Dinner.” POP.

The kitchen

Cilly landed in the kitchen in enough time to hear the very end of Dumbledore’s speech.

“You will put this one in Mr. Potter’s food and this one in Snape’s. I’m worried he’ll be concerned with the welfare of the boy. He always has been too good to him.”

Cilly’s eyes went wide and she was back in Snape’s rooms before Dumbledore even realized she had appeared.

Harry opened his eyes with a yawn as the train came to a stop. He felt very warm and contented. When his vision cleared he looked around and discovered why. At some point he had fallen asleep and Draco had pulled him onto his lap. Harry smiled up at his mate cheerily. “Dragon, wake up Dragon. We’re here.”

“M’not Dragon.” came his sleepy reply.

“Wake up anyway.”

Draco did, opening his eyes just wide enough to glare tiredly at Harry.

“You too, Ron.” Maybe he had begun trusting the boy again too easily, but for some reason he believed Ron was on his side.

“Five more minutes, Mum.” groaned the redhead.

“I’m not your Mum and anyways we’re here.”

Ron stirred slowly. “Y’know you never did answer my question earlier.”

“What question?”

“Why’s Malfoy here?”

“I’m a Naga, he’s my mate.”

“Your what!? You’re what!?”

“Why’d you ask the same question twice?” asked Draco, still a bit out of it.

“He didn’t. I’m a Naga, I came into my inheritance this year. And Draco,” he said with special emphasis on the name, “is my mate.”

“I never expected… Malfoy of all people and you’re a Naga… but,” and Ron stood with a formal air, “I officially offer my congratulations on the discovery of your One…….” He passed as though unsure before straightening up and continuing, “Lord Potter.”

“I accept. Now come on, we’re going to miss the carriages if we don’t hurry up.” Harry stood up, pulling Draco with him as he rushed out the compartment.

As he let go of Draco’s hand to jump off the train, he heard a voice from the near empty station. “Mr. Potter.”

“Professor.” Said harry, turning to look at the man.

“Come here, Potter.” called Professor Snape.

Harry complied.

“You’re cutting it a bit close, aren’t you Potter? You’re as bad as your disgusting father.” Venom dripped from Snape’s every word, but his eyes we’re trying to say something entirely different, so Harry attacked his mind.

During his Occlumency lessons, Harry had discovered, quite by accident, that he had a natural talent for Legilimency. When Snape had attacked his mind one to many times, in a fit of rage Harry had accidently thrown Snape’s spell back at him. From there Snape had changed his teaching entirely. Better to work at what Harry was actually competent in then teach him what he simply refused to learn.

Harry skimmed the thoughts at the forefront of Snape’s mind. ‘So Dumblefuck’s trying to drug us is he. I guess I’ll have to provide a little distraction then. We can’t have him knowing we’re on to him.’

“That’s not true! My father was an amazing man! He never did anything to you that you didn’t deserve.” sneered Harry.

“Detention Potter.” said Snape almost gleefully. “One week, starting tomorrow. Be in my office by seven. Don’t be late, you will regret it.”

Harry stormed over to the carriage were Draco was waiting. “Guess you’re stuck with me, eh, Malfoy.” said Harry grinning slightly. He stepped into the carriage jocularly.

When they were headed toward the school and safely away from prying eyes, Harry stood up. Being that they were in a moving carriage and Harry was unfortunate enough to stand up just as they headed over a bump in the road, he fell right back down. It didn’t matter though as Harry had ended up right were he had wanted to be anyways, in Draco’s lap. He put his arms around the taller boys neck and grinned.

“Don’t worry, we don’t have to act like enemies long, just until my surprise is revealed, then we can be friends. We can’t let them know what we really are, but Voldemort won’t complain that I’m with you, if I’ve left Dumblefuck.”

Draco looked doubtful. “It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s just that, since when has You-Know-Who ever been reasonable, or even logical for that matter?”

“He’ll have to be. It will look as though I’m coming to the ‘dark side’.” Harry grinned.

“Why do you say that? Yeah your leaving Dumbledore, but that doesn’t mean your evil, a whinny prat maybe, but not evil.”

Harry opened his mouth to explain further but was thrown off Draco’s lap when the carriage screeched to a sudden halt. “Damn thestrals. Why do they have to stop so fucking suddenly.” grumbled Harry as he picked himself up off the floor.

Harry didn’t have to fake anger as he climbed down out the carriage. He was angry enough at having been tossed out of his favorite seat by, ‘ungrateful thestrals’. ‘You’d think they would like me. I got ‘em off the grounds for a day. But no, they have to hold a grudge just because a few death eaters threw some panicked hexes around. It’s not like any of them died.’

He continued to grumble on in an annoyed fashion until he spotted a familiar figure. “Neville!” cried Harry happily; he was overjoyed to see an old friend. His happiness disappeared as Neville slowly turned toward him. “Neville? What happened?”

Scars trailed across Neville’s face and neck, parallel and random, as though cased by a slicing hex. “Death eaters came.” said Neville, leaning down so that his now long hair hid the scars from view. “They killed my Grandmother. I wouldn’t let them heal the scars. They used a slicing hex aimed for me, but she jumped in the way. It hit the side of my face, but cut straight to her heart. Snape came after that. He said they weren’t supposed to kill us and made them leave. He knocked me out after that and I don’t remember what happened until I woke up in the hospital wing of Hogwarts. He shouldn’t have stopped them.” said Neville bitterly.

Neville broke down, shaking and sobbing like a little kid, hair still hiding his face, hiding the tears. “One more reason for revenge.” said Harry sadly, as he stepped forward to comfort his crying friend.

“There you are. I heard what happened Neville, I’m sorry about your Gran.” Seamus led Neville off toward the great hall, consoling the still sobbing boy. Seamus, if it was possible, looked almost as sad as Neville.

Harry walked slowly to the doors of the school. He wondered absentmindedly if Neville and the other would fell betrayed when they heard. It didn’t really matter, he supposed, but he would feel sad if they hated him.

“Harry, my boy!” called Dumbledore, practically shouting over the noise in the great hall. “May I have a word with you?”

Harry nodded his acquiescence and followed the batty old man to a nearby classroom, catching Luna’s eye as he passed. Alert as ever, Luna ran off to fetch Snape.

“Now my boy, you can’t be serious about this re-sorting business.”

Harry balked at the use of the term ‘my boy’, but ignored it, contesting it would simply sound childish. “I assure you; I am most serious, Headmaster.”

“I simply cannot allow you to switch houses so far into your schooling. It would confuse the other students and you as well. Now if you’ll just forget about the whole thing; I’m sure we can come to an arrangement that will satisfy both of us. A Prefect position just opened up. Usually there’s one boy and one girl, but an exception can be made considering the circumstances.”

“That won’t be necessary Headmaster. I will not be able to take the position as Gryffindor prefect as I will no longer be in Gryffindor.”

“Yes you will. You will not be changing houses. I am the headmaster and I make the rules.”

“Well I am an adult, legally now and I can decide to change schools. How many parents will want to send their children to Hogwarts after they find out the Boy-Who-Lived refuses to attend it anymore?”

“I’m sure Remus will be sad to hear that. He was so looking forward to seeing you.”

Harry started to laugh. “Don’t you check on your prisoners Dumbledore? Remus hasn’t been here in over a week. Torturing him got boring I suppose after you had him kill a little girl.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Me and Siri came to visit a little over a week ago. It didn’t take long for a certain member of your staff to find where you had Remus hidden. A few spells and one freed elf later and Remus was back where he belongs. Oh and you might not want to go in that room again. I think Sirius came back to leave a little gift there for you.” Harry grinned.

“What! That’s impossible1”

“Dumbledore, the sorting ceremony is already almost over. You’ll miss the whole thing if you don’t hurry up.” said Snape in a bored manner as he opened the classroom door.

“I’ll see you at the ceremony professor.” said Harry with a slight smirk as he walked back toward the great hall. He reached his destination just in time to see Rosalie Zoresta sorted into Ravenclaw.

Just as Professor McGonagall stepped forward to take the sorting hat off its stool, the rip in the brim opened again and spoke in a booming voice.

“Oh, there you are. I was worried you weren’t going to make it.” Every pair of eyes in the room focused on the hat, wondering who it could be speaking to. “Dumbledore didn’t bother writing it down. Of course, he thought he could convince you otherwise, but I know everything to do with Hogwarts.” bragged the hat. “Now, get up here! As much as we both know where you’re going, I’m still required to check.”

Harry strolled confidently up the stool that had cowed him as a child, as every eye turned to watch him. He placed the hat on his head and waited patiently for the voice to echo in his mind. ‘Six years later and you’re still very much the same. You have a bit more confidence perhaps, but that only makes you more suited for your true house. You’ll let me put you there this time, right?’

‘Of course. My plans couldn’t work out if you didn’t.”

“SLYTHERIN!”

Silence seemed to almost echo in the hall as Harry stepped off the stool, leaving the hat behind him and strolled over to the Slytherin table. He sat elegantly beside a very shell shocked Draco and turned toward the front of the room to wait for Dumbledore’s speech, easily ignoring all the eyes staring at him.

“Wh-wh-what are you….?”

“Oh, hello, let's be friends, k’ Draco?”

Draco nodded absently, still shocked. The whole room was shocked, well except for Ron, Dumbledore and Harry himself. Ron had come to terms with the fact that Harry’s cryptic message had meant exactly what he’d thought it did.

Then all hell broke loose. Suddenly yelling and screams seemed to emanate from every corner of the room. Suddenly every Slytherin was on their feet, wands at the ready. Surprisingly, more often then not, they weren’t pointed at Harry.

Dumbledore jumped to is feet, demanding silence, but he was ignored. The first year Slytherins were shaking in fear, most of them had never been in a duel before, but they knew it would be expected of them to defend their fellow Slytherins.

“To the dungeons, NOW.” Yelled Snape above the noise and as one they fled to the dungeons. To the Slytherins, Snape was like their father while they where at school and their father was not to be questioned. Even Harry knew he had to obey Snape, he was a Slytherin now after all.

They got out of the hall just in time. No sooner had the doors to the great hall closed then spells began firing. Some confused fourth year had panicked in the chaos and sent an accidental hex at another student. With voices already raised and tempers flying it had been taken as a declaration of war.

When the Slytherins got to the dungeons they poured in, watching Harry closely for any signs of Gryffindorness. Snape came in a few moments later, scowling and paler than usual.

“Potter! You will explain, now!”

“It needs explanation? I thought it was obvious. I was re-sorted into Slytherin, thus my presence here. Oh and Draco has agreed to be my friend.” said Harry grinning cheekily and grabbing one of Draco’s hands in both of his.

Draco tried, futilely to free his hand from Harry's.

Snape glared, then sighed, resigned to his fate. ‘At least this way, I can be sure Potter trusts me.’ “We will eat in here tonight. I will not have my snakes associated with the ruckus in there. But before that I must remind you of the rules. First, my word is law, if I catch you breaking it there will be consequences. Two, outside this dorm we are a united front. Any problems you have with each other will cease to exist the moment you walk through the door. Three, slithering stick together. The rest of the school is against us so we must stick together to survive. The password to my rooms is poena.” Snape turned and stalked away, his robes flung out behind him in classic Snape fashion. “I will call the house-elves to bring you diner.”

Responding no doubt to his words, plates appeared, crowding every available surface. Harry looked around, observing the familiar room. “Well it hasn’t changed much since second year.”

“What do you mean?” asked Draco warily. “How would you know if it had changed?”

“Back in second year, Ron and I were convinced you were the heir of Slytherin, so we polyjuiced ourselves as Crabbe and Goyle to question you.”

“What?”

“You heard.”

“And so did I.” said Snape as he entered the room carrying a long scroll. Snape glared, shaking with the effort it took not to punish Harry. He even developed a slight twitch. Eventually he spoke. “Good job, Mr. Potter. Twenty points to Slytherin for successfully brewing polyjuice potion.”

“I was a Gryffindor at the time.”

“Then ten points from Gryffindor”

Harry just smiled. “Those are the room assignments I presume.”

“Yes.” said Snape glaring as he spoke. “You will room with the sixth years Malfoy and Zabini. Don’t get yourself killed.”

“Didn’t know you cared, Sev.” said Harry with a slight grin.

“What did you call me-…Mr. Potter.” Even if he was to teach the boy, he refused to let him mangle his name like that. His voice was dripping with contempt.

“Sev, of course. What did it sound like I called you?”

The vein over Snape’s eye was popping out. “Detention, Mr. Potter.”

“Yes, Professor.” Said Harry with a cheeky grin.

Harry’s complete lack of fear annoyed Snape and he stomped off, not unlike a petulant child.

“If anyone needs to talk to me, I’m going to bed. C’mon Draco.” said Harry, pulling the boy off toward the bedrooms.

“Just ‘cause you’re going to bed doesn’t mean I have to.”

“But I don’t know where our room is.”

“Fine.” Draco grumbled.

“That boy, that useless cretin of a boy, that little bastard, first he leaves, then he frees MY pawns, then he makes A MOCKERY OF MY SCHOOL! He will pay! Oh will he pay. I’ll kill the little bugger. Squash him like a bug I will!”
