Chapter XVI
Lovely Reviewers:
nikkuman - We all have our favorites. This one is rather fluffy. It is for those who are more fond of happy stories.
Ashley - Well, we all think that our own writing is crap. I'm glad that you don't know what is coming next...that is good. I wouldn't want it to be too predictable.
The appt. landed me on some delightful drugs...which don't seem to be helping at all. But the doctor said that the drugs could take time to build up and begin to help.
Lethal recessive traits...They aren't traits for being muggle? You learn something new everyday.
sinbad - Of course, she did.
Hilda Malfoy - *pats on back* Poor Lucius...he needs hugs...waiting for a VEELA update. *rocks back and forth on bed muttering to self about people who don't update wonderful VEELA stories*
Lyra Aphrodite Moon - Oh darling, you don't think it will be that simple, do you?
trippingEYES - I may need to have that in here as a scene of sorts. Indeed.
Citten - He is confidant; he just doesn't want to be embarrassed is what I am thinking. Someone will surely be helping them out.
maddie50 - He is being our Lucius. *Hugs Lucius plushie*
Heidi191976 - Who knows? I think Lucius needs a hug. *hugs Lucius plushie*
HermioneMalfoyFan - I hope when you are in love that you can be with the person you are in love with. This is definitely the fluffy one of the sequels.
You'll find out more of Lucius reasoning.
Well, he is a sweetheart. So sweet and darling. Even as a drunk.
happybunny - *hugs self* I love reviews. Indeed. They are a striking contrast.
My holidays start soon. I'm ready to be back in Kansas...not that Kansas is exciting beyond having the person I love living in it.
Apple - I would not hurt Lucius. Not irreparably anyway. I'm glad that you enjoy reading the story as much as I love writing. You'll find out what is within the locket with everyone else.
Lady Disdain - Lucius has MPD as well. Poor darling...the other personality is not so nice...*tutting*...waiting is over within a few minutes.
theorgskittles - You won't often wait long for my updates. I'm pretty good about regular updates.
Lauriurix - Hope that this chapter is good as well.
yuri - A kick in each of their arses would be good for them. Lucius will become more pleasing to you in Chapter XVIII.

Well, here is Chapter XVI. Hope y'all like it. I'm having fun with writing the thing.
I have plans for another story as soon as this is finished. It is not connected.

It was three months later when Hermione finally found herself walking the halls of Hogwarts toward the library. The school was finally repaired and looking as splendid as it ever did in the time of the Founders.
She was glad that no newspapers were allowed on the property at the orders of the Ministry and Headmistress McGonagall. They had been wreaking havoc on her. She could not step out the door of the rebuilt house at Godric’s hollow without dozens of photos being snapped, getting asked on dates by at least ten wizards, and being begged for interviews. She barely paid attention to the whole thing. She just wanted to escape the people, especially the people asking about who reversed the curse Bellatrix cast on her.
She’d not spoken to, written to, or seen Lucius since she’d left his bedroom to meet Harry and Ron. She’d not had time. Most of the time she’d not slept through the night. Every time she sat down to write to him someone would burst in and tell her that she had a function to attend or a photo that needed taking.
Professor Snape was teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. Hermione had thrown her arms around him the moment she saw him. He had turned red enough to rival a Weasley’s hair. He’d gently dislodged himself from her arms and looked down his nose at her as he spoke in a stiff tone, telling her that he hoped to see great things from her before excusing himself.
She relaxed in her favorite nook in the library with a book about old German hexes on her lap.
Hermione almost shouted with joy when she found the spell in the text. But it was only a brief mention about the history of the curse. Nothing about the cure.
“What’s wrong, Hermione?” Harry asked as he flopped down in a chair. “It’s great to be back here.”
“It is nice to be back in Hogwarts without a fight with Voldemort looming over our heads.”
Ron shrugged and flopped down in a chair next to her, “I don’t know. It’s so dull now.”
Harry’s mouth dropped open, “You weren’t the one who had to be willing to sacrifice himself for wizardkind.”
“What’re you looking for, Hermione?” Ron asked, pulling her close and kissing her cheek.
“Information on the curse that Bellatrix cast on me,” Hermione answered, setting the book on the table and forcing herself not to wipe the cheek where Ron’s lips had just been.
“Why didn’t you ask Ron and me?” Harry asked. “We were there when Snape and Malfoy found the answer.”
“What do you know?” Hermione asked, looking at them closer.
“Well, it was used on pretty girls by hags,” Ron supplied.
“The only way to cure it was for a wizard who went through great strife—something like that—for the girl. The wizard had to kiss her. The wizard had to be in love with the girl,” Harry said. “That’s what Malfoy said.”
Hermione nodded as she stood and put the book on the return cart.
“Hermione, Ron and I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“What?” she asked, walking back over to the table.
“Well, the Ministry has offered to let us become aurors without attending our seventh year and all. Well, we’re going to do it.”
“You should,” Hermione said, hugging each of them. “I’m happy for you.”
“They want you to come, too, Hermione,” Ron said. “Are you coming with us?”
Hermione gently removed her hand from Ron’s.
“Actually, Ron, I’m going to work for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Professor McGonagall agreed to help me be ready to take my N.E.W.T.s in just one month. It helps that I had already read and understood the course books. Some of the practical application of the transfiguring and potions eluded me though. I need to learn that.”
“But we were going to be aurors together,” Ron said, trying to take her hand.
Hermione stood up to remove herself from the situation of Ron’s affection.
“I’m sorry, Ron. But something has happened that has made my decision change. I may eventually become an auror, but right now, I want to work for the RCMC.”
Harry looked up at her, “Why Hermione? I just want the reason.”
“Remus survived the final battle as you both know. What you might not be aware of is that because Tonks the non-werewolf from their union is no longer with us, Teddy can’t be with his father. Andromeda has been made his guardian. He can’t even visit Teddy without a ministry official present, and even then, only once a week. And he is limited to two hours per week. I won’t let them do this to Remus. I’m going to make sure that he has custody of his son. I’ll make sure that conditions are improved for all magical creatures with human level intelligence, vampires, house-elves, centaurs, all of them.”
Harry stood and wrapped his arms around Hermione.
“Wow, I had no idea.”
“I assumed that he told you.”
“Nope, hadn’t heard a peep.”
“I can only think the reasoning has to do with all the attacks by Fenrir’s Wolves,” Hermione said. “They want Greyback released from Azkaban with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Kingsley won’t let that nonsense happen. He is to be given the Kiss at the end of this week.”
“You’re such a great friend, Hermione,” Ron said, pulling Hermione from Harry’s arms. “I’ve been meaning to ask you something, Hermione.”
Hermione looked up into Ron’s blue eyes.
“Can you give us a moment, mate?” Ron said, looking over at Harry.
“Sure, I’ll meet you outside to apparate to the auror training place.”
When Harry was out of sight, Ron reached into his robes pocket.
“You know I love you, Hermione,” Ron said, getting down on one knee.
Hermione turned and looked out the window. She didn’t catch the pair of eyes peering at her from behind the bookshelf. She closed her eyes. Her fingers wrapped around the locket. She’d not removed it since Lucius put it on her.
“Well, I was wondering, Hermione. I was wondering if you would marry me?” Ron asked holding out a ring in the palm of his hand. “I’d be thrilled. The happiest man in the world.”
Hermione stared at the ring and at Ron’s hopeful expression. Her courage failed her. She couldn’t hurt him.
“Sure,” Hermione answered, squeezing the locket more tightly as the image of Lucius with his face in her skirts and knelt in that same spot came to her mind.
Ron whooped and slid the ring on her finger before sweeping her up in his arms and spinning in a circle telling her how he would be the best husband ever.
She didn’t see the silvery eyes watching her.
