CHAPTER FIFTEEN: Mine
The fall air was a bit brisk as Draco and Hermione walked around at the fair near Hogsmeade Village. Eight month old Grace was perched on her Daddy’s hip wearing a set of violet soft woolen robes with a matching tam that her Nana had bought her. Draco was sneaking her bites of his ice cream cone as Hermione wandered ahead of them looking at various wares sold by vendors.
Draco was happy, more than he had ever been in his life as he meandered about with his little family. They had begun decorating the house together, meeting with a professional decorator once a week and choosing patterns and styles. Their house would be a home by Christmas and hopefully he would have her convinced to marry him.
“Draco! Oh my goodness look at her.” Hermione said, approaching them with a scowl. Grace smiled brightly, her mouth and chin covered in vanilla ice cream, her single tooth showing as she waved her chubby hands happily.
“What? I just gave her a little taste.” He said, a guilty expression on his face.
“You spoil her.” Hermione said, reaching for their daughter so she could clean her up.
“She’s mine to spoil.” He said, smiling, not the least bit repentant for giving the baby the ice cream.
“I’m going to take her to the ladies room and get her cleaned up; I’ll meet you near the carousel.” Hermione said. Draco leaned over and gave her a quick, brushing kiss.
“Hurry back, love.” He said. He watched her walk away towards the restrooms and smiled before heading towards the carousel. He stopped briefly and played a game where he was required to cast the aquamenti spell and sustain the stream long enough to get the pixie to the top of the tube. He won a stuffed hippogriff for his Grace. He tucked it under his arm and continued on his way.
“I don’t believe it! Draco Malfoy!” Draco winced at the familiar, grating sound of Pansy Parkinson’s voice. He turned around slowly, a tight smile on his face. She was accompanied by Blaise and Goyle, none of them appeared to have changed much.
“Hello, Pansy, Blaise, Goyle.” Draco had cut his ties with his old friends for a reason. They brought him down, encouraged his darker side. He was not the boy they recall and he never would be again, he had changed and was becoming the man he was always meant to be.
“Where have you been, mate? We haven’t seen or heard from you since we graduated.” Blaise said, cupping his shoulder.
“I was out of the country with my parents.” Draco answered simply.
“You could have written, we could have been pen pals.” Pansy cooed, sidling up beside him and pouting. He frowned, annoyed by her blatant flirtation and wondering what he had ever seen in her.
“The point was to get away and get some perspective, Pansy.” Draco said, sidestepping away from her.
“You missed out on some juicy gossip.” She sneered. “We just saw Granger going into the ladies toilet with a kid. Can you believe it? Which one do you think did it?”
“Which one? What are you talking about, Pansy?” Draco asked.
“Who do you think fathered the brat, Potter or Weasley? I couldn’t see its hair, had a stupid hat on so I didn’t get a good look at it.”
“From the looks of it she had to have gotten knocked up while we were still in school, can’t imagine who she would have been shagging though?” Blaise said, shivering slightly. “Not that I care who is shagging a mudblood as long as I don’t have to.”
“Yeah, me either.” Goyle said, his mouth wrapped around a caramel apple.
“I never thought she’d get her nose out of a book long enough to get laid, much less get pregnant.” Pansy said, laughing. “Oh gods, here she comes.” The Slytherins sneered as Hermione stopped near them, clutching Grace tightly to her as she looked at their smirking faces and then up at Draco.
“Hello, Granger.” Pansy said, a smug smile on her face. “Thought you’d be at the university by now.”
“Hello, Pansy.” Hermione said softly, shifting Grace in her arms. The baby had her head nestled on Hermione’s shoulder and was sucking her thumb.
“Oi, whotcha got there?” Goyle asked, pointing at Grace with his half eaten apple.
“My daughter.” Hermione said, still looking at Draco. Would he claim them in front of his fellow Slytherins and Purebloods?
“Wow, Granger, you really left school with a bang didn’t you?” Blaise said, laughing at his own jest. Hermione’s face fell and Draco could see the sadness in her eyes, from the looks of things this wasn’t the first time someone had made comments about her being a young, unwed mother.
Draco smiled softly as Grace lifted her head and looked at him, her eyes widening and a big smile spreading across her face.
“Come here, Gracie, come to Daddy.” Draco said, pulling Grace from Hermione’s arms and settling her into his arms. He reached up and tugged the hat from her head, her blonde ringlets bouncing free as she grabbed the hat and started to chew it, her bright blue eyes sparkling.
“Daddy?” Blaise looked confused as he stared between Hermione, Draco and the baby.
“Yes, this is my daughter, Grace Malfoy.” Draco said, smirking softly. He stepped back and slid his arm around Hermione’s shoulder. “Our daughter.”
“No….you and Granger?” Pansy looked like she might become ill. “But you hate each other!”
“Well apparently not.” Draco said, one brow lifting slightly.
“Oi, if that’s your kid then you are the one who shagged Granger!” Goyle said, smiling as though he had unlocked the secrets of the universe with that witty statement.
“But…that would mean you two were….well, you got her pregnant while we were in school…I never saw you together…not once.” Blaise said, clearly stunned.
“What went on with Hermione and I was not then, nor is it now, any of your business.” Draco said. “Now if you will excuse me, I need to take my family on the carousel and then home, it’s almost Grace’s bed time.”
The three of them watched in amazement as Draco and Hermione turned around and walked off towards the carousel. Draco’s arm around Hermione’s shoulders and hers around his waist. They could see him kissing the baby then leaning down to kiss Hermione.
“Well holy shit.” Blaise said. “Malfoy went and fell in love with a mudblood, I can’t believe it.”
“It’s just so….nasty.” Pansy shivered. “He was such a prime pureblood too, now he’s ruined.”
“Kid is cute.” Goyle said, shrugging as he opened a bag of candy floss. “Hey, do you think they sell pizza?”

Hermione allowed Draco to lead her away from the group of Slytherins towards the carousel. He kept his arm around her shoulders as he kissed Grace then lowered his head to kiss her temple.
“You alright, love?” He asked softly. Hermione turned her head and looked up at him.
“I thought for a moment that you were that boy again, that you were going to deny us in front of your friends.” She said, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.
“They aren’t my friends. They never were, not in the true sense of the word, Hermione. I will never deny you and Grace, I am not ashamed of you, I love you both more than anything else.” Draco said, his hand coming to the back of her neck to hold her still.
“You love me?” She asked softly, the tears sliding free to trail down her cheeks.
“Yes, I love you.” He whispered, covering her lips with his and kissing her softly. Hermione brought her hand up to cup the back of his head as their lips slid together, moving slowly and passionately together.
“I love you too.” She said against his lips. They pulled apart when they felt Grace, she pressed her little face between them not happy about being left out of the kisses. Draco and Hermione both laughed and kissed her fat little cheeks until she giggled before taking her on the carousel. Their eyes met as they stood on either side of their daughter, holding her on the jumping hippogriff and they both knew that things were going to change and change quickly.
