Lupin's Talk Pt3
Author's Notes The third talk between Hunter and Remus. They now finally have something in common that the Professor can help his student with. Featuring Match Box 20's Real World.
Dumbledore left before the other Gryffindors returned. He had left Hunter with a lot to think about but no time to figure it all out. Gryffindor had won the match 300 to nothing and was now in the lead for the House Cup by only 25 points.
Once the rest of the band was ready they began the session and the party soon got into full swing.
I wonder what it's like to be the rainmaker. I wonder what it's like to know that I make the rain. I'd store it in boxes with little yellow tags on everyone. And you can come see them when I'm... done, when I'm done.
I wonder what it's like to be a super hero. I wonder where I'd go if I could fly around downtown. From some other planet, I get this funky high on yellow sun. Boy I bet my friends will all be... stunned, they're stunned.
Straight up, what did you hope to learn about here. If I were someone else, would this all fall apart. Strange, where were you, when we started this gig. I wish the real world, would just stop hassling me.
I wonder what it's like to be the head honcho. I wonder what I'd do if they all did just what I said. I'd shout out an order, I think we're out of this man get me some. Boy don't make me wanna change my...tone, my tone.
Straight up, what did you hope to learn about here. If I were someone else, would this all fall apart. Strange, where were you, when we started this gig. I wish the real world, would just stop hassling me.
Please don't change, please don't break. The only thing that seems to work at all is you. Please don't change, at all from me. To you, and you to me.

hassling me.
The party wrapped up around two in the morning when Professor McGonagall finally sent everyone to bed. The band and their crew of course were too pumped from the performance to sleep and since they didn't have school in the morning they sat up in the common room and talked.
Hunter confided in them what Professor Dumbledore had told them about his father and what he knew about the Bastet. They were naturally stunned but still treated him the same as they had since they became friends.
After the others went to bed Hunter and Katie remained on the couch cuddled up under a blanket Hunter had summoned from his room. "You've been pretty quiet," he observed. "Care to share with me?"
"Lykens mate for life right?" She asks softly. "I mean once you," she pauses to consider her words.
"Once I have sex with someone am I committed to them for as long as I live?" Hunter finishes for her with a soft chuckle. "First of all I might not even be a Bastet." He gently strokes her hair as he looks into the flames in the fireplace. "I'm getting close to the age when most under go their first change but..."
He shakes his head clearing his thoughts. "Besides," he begins again. "It's not quite as simple as that." He gently lifts her head up so he can look down and see her face. "Each breed has different views pertaining to sex and mating. To understand each breeds view, you need to understand the animal inside."
"Certain breeds like werewolves associate sex with mating. While others like the Bastet view them as separate acts." He softly kisses her forehead. "What Erica and I shared was special but it didn't make her my mate."
Katie smiles and snuggles up against him again. "So what you're saying is you were just being a frisky alley cat." They both laugh and watch the fire die down before drifting off to sleep.
The weeks leading up to the Easter Dance saw the castle buzzing with activity as everyone prepared for the biggest social event since the Yule Ball the previous year.
A special Hogsmeade weekend had been scheduled the weekend before the event to allow all students, including first and second years, a last opportunity to buy their outfits for the occasion. Katie had taken Carla with her so they could find a dress for the first year.
Hunter had stayed behind and was currently in Lupin's office speaking with the Professor. "I don't know how to tell her what's going on," he said pacing around the office like a caged animal. "It feels like the walls are closing in on me and I can't breathe."
The Professor didn't need his werewolf hearing to pick up the almost feral growling that was present in his voice every time Hunter spoke. "Your Bastet nature is close to the surface," Remus said soothingly. "Your first change isn't far away."
"I KNOW..." Hunter roared. He froze in his tracks at the sound that came out of his mouth. Hunter closed his eyes and took several deep cleansing breathes as he tried to calm himself down. "I'm sorry Professor," He apologized. "It's just that unless I'm playing or with hanging with my friends I just get so agitated."
Remus walks up behind him and places a reassuring hand on Hunter's shoulder. "I can sympathize," he says. "I felt the same way before each full moon when I was a student here."
Hunter growls as he pulls away. "Sorry but I doubt you EVER felt like THIS..." he walks over to the window and stares outside. "It's been getting worst with each passing day. I fell like unless I do something soon I might hurt someone."
Professor Lupin nods. "I can relate," the Professor says. "Although admittedly I've never had to endure it for more then a day or two." He watches Hunter and taking pity on the young man retrieves a bottle of Fire whiskey from his desk.
With a wave of his wand the door to his office is locked and silenced. "Perhaps a drink might help to settle your nerves until the others return." He pours two glasses and hands one to Hunter. "Now I can lose my job for this."
Hunter takes the glass and nods. "I'm not telling." he downs the drink in one shot and makes a face at the burning sensation running down his throat. "DAMN... I thought Moonshine strong." He holds out his glass to the Professor. "How about another?"
He and Lupin had compared notes on the Bastet and the differences between them and werewolves. With the biggest being that after their first change Bastet could control their dual nature and change at will afterwards.
A few other differences that Bastet were born and not turned and so they could then choose to live as either a human or remain in their feline form. There were even rumors of a monstrous third form that was half-man half-beast similar to that of the wolfman in Muggle monster movies.
Three drinks and five cigarettes later Hunter had once again regained control of his emotions. He returned to the common room a couple hours later and found Katie and Carla talking while the rest of the band focused on studying for their coming exams.
Author's Notes: Well now how is this little plot twist going to turn out? Hunter's a Bastet about to under go his first change. Can the others help him get through it or does he have to face this stage of his life alone also? Next chapter is the first of the two-part Easter Dance. Hope you remember to bring your dancing shoes.
