chapter 15 - Final Chapter!
Title: The Ties That Bind - Chapter 15
Author: Dracoluvah
Pairing: Draco/Harry, Severus/Lucius implied
Rating for series: NC-17
Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Warnings: male/male
Summary: After the wake of Narcissa Malfoy, Harry and Draco are back at Hogwarts, but now as professors with Snape as their headmaster.
A/N: I was asked after chapter 14 about the past relationship of Severus and Lucius. I must admit, that part of the delay in this chapter came about from me delving into that very question. I have decided not to go into all of it here. I am writing a 'companion' to this piece dealing with that relationship. I wanted to maintain the focus here on Harry and Draco, so I hope you do not think too ill of me. I hope you enjoy this final chapter of The Ties That Bind.
Disclaimer: Draco Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy, Harry Potter, Snape, and pretty much anything else recognizable belongs to J.K. Rowling.

From chapter 14:
(Draco speaking to Lucius, their first meeting since Lucius has been released from Azkaban. Harry and Severus are in attendance)
"Oh, so leaving mother alone for weeks on end, missing half of my childhood, forcing ... kidnapping me and taking me to Voldemort...that was all for me." Draco rose out of his seat, "With family like that, who needs enemies." Draco slammed his napkin on the table, then exited abruptly.
"Draco ... wait up," Harry chased after him.

Chapter 15
"Draco. Draco!" Harry rushed out of the restaurant after the blonde.
The seething Potions professor stopped suddenly and turned on his heel. "Don't even start Potter."
"What?" questioned the Gryffindor, taken aback.
"Don't defend him. Don't try and rationalize his actions or justify his motives. Don't try and convince me to give him a chance. Don't get all Gryffindor on me."
Harry fained innocence, "I don't know what you are talking about." The brunette grinned widely, his green eyes sparkling.
"I mean it!" Draco tried to continue to be angry, but looking into Harry's eyes, his scowl was turning into a pout. "You're lucky you're cute."
"Amy I?" Harry's eyes twinkling in return.

Second chances. Such a romantic notion. How obnoxiously Gryffindor. How perfectly Potter. Why did Harry always advocate for second chances. But thinking back to the fall, it was Harry that had given him a second chance, undeserving as he was. After all of the horrendous tormenting, bullying, and harassment he had bestowed upon Harry while classmates in Hogwarts, if Harry could give him a second chance, then maybe it was time to give his father one.
Draco sat at his Mahogany desk staring at the envelope sealed with the Malfoy crest. For most of his life, Draco ran away from his problems. As a child, he had run to his mother's loving embrace. As a young Slytherin, he had run to his mentor, Severus Snape. Now as an adult, he had run to Harry. As much as he enjoyed the benefits of seeking comfort in Snape and Potter's thighs, he had realized that it was just an avoidance technique. Draco knew it was time to face this situation himself.
Draco picked up the silver letter opener and gently lifted the Malfoy seal. With his smooth ivory skinned hands shaking, he took out the parchment with trepidation. His eyes focused upon the precise and meticulous script.
My Dearest Draco,
Just by opening this letter, you have filled my heart with profound joy.
I cannot even attempt to convey how grateful I am for you to allow me this
opportunity to begin to repair our relationship.
Draco put the letter down. I can do this. I can do this. With a heavy sigh, he picked up the letter again.
My time in Azkaban has allowed me to reflect upon the choices I have made in my life.
It may sound cliche, but if I had my life to live over again, there are so many decisions I would like to have changed. At the time, with the information I had, I tried to do the best for our family.
Draco grumbled. Oh, offering his heir, his only child, to the Dark Lord - that, I'm sure, was just a wonderful decision for our family.
When I was young and in Hogwarts, I had fallen in love with someone of mixed blood.
Your grandfather had not approved of this and immediately had bound me to marry a pure blood.
Draco paused. But my father HATED "mudbloods." Didn't he? So many questions were swimming through his mind. Determined to finish the letter, he continued to read.
A marriage between your mother and I was arranged between the Black family and your grandfather Abraxis. At first, neither of us was pleased by this arrangement, however, we both had committed ourselves to each other for the sake of our families.
Draco, at this point you must be questioning so very many things.
Did I love your mother?
Did she love me?
And I'm sure you must be wondering how could I let my only son become a Death Eater?
Draco darling, I beg for your mercy.
Please allow me an opportunity to answer your questions, to share
my story with you, and begin to repair our relationship.
I understand this process cannot happen overnight, but please know that my desire to repair our relationship is sincere.
Humbly yours,
Your father Lucius
Draco picked up his quill and parchment. After a few moments of careful consideration, he penned:
I will grant you a visit.
Tomorrow, 10am.
Mother's flower garden.
I will be alone and unarmed.
I ask you to do the same.
Draco
Draco sealed the envelope, gave it to Hedwig to deliver, then crawled into his bed and snuggled up to Harry, content with his decision.
Harry was proud of Draco. He was no longer a coward, no longer weak. He was able to face this difficult situation alone, but knowing that he was supported and loved. Looking at his lover he noticed a mischievous look in the blonde's silver eyes, "What are you up to?" Harry commented, grinning.
The Slytherin responded, "I was thinking a congratulatory shag was in order."
"Oh really?" Harry looked at Draco intrigued.
"Yes I do! Now go and grab our house ties - it's time for someone to be tied up."

Epilogue
July 20Th
At Mother's funeral services I had grieved the loss of the only person who had truly loved me. At least, I thought she was the one person, the only person who could ever love me. Over the course of this year, I have been loved in ways that I could never have imagined. I have been loved as a colleague, a friend, a lover, and a soul mate. Three incredible, strong, and intelligent men have shown me that even though we may not have fairy tale picture perfect lives, that by trusting in each other, by allowing ourselves to risk loving and being loved, that we can overcome the rawness of man's inhumanity to man. These are the very ties that bind us to one another.
