Epilogue

The end. It had to come and I'm pretty happy with it. Thanks for your reviews.

Epilogue

Draco flicked his wand, his belongings whisking into his trunk, shrinking so that they all fit. It was over and done with. Hogwarts was now but a memory. And a very good memory towards the end at that. Accounts had all been settled and in the end he’d accomplished what he’d wanted. He was now a licensed wizard, with a choice of careers before him. And in a week he would be wed to a woman he truly loved. He picked up his diploma with his free hand even as his books shrunk and filled in the extra spaces.

He gazed at the old potions book and sighed softly to himself. Severus was civil at best with him at the moment. But they had reached an understanding and it was enough to satisfy him. His godfather didn’t approve but would refrain from sharing his opinions and in return he’d seriously contemplate accepting professorship at Hogwarts next term. A compromise.

A soft knock at his door broke him out of his thoughts, “Enter.”

The portrait swung over, Pansy leaning in the entryway with her trunk trailing behind her, “You’re just now packing?”

He grinned at her over his shoulder, dropping the sealed parchment lightly in his trunk before moving over to the window, “My dearest Pansy, you know I always wait till the last possible moment before packing.”

His dorm had been one of the few with a view and he took a moment to gently extract the piece of marble lying innocently on the window sill. He fingered the polished surface. Seven years old, in fact,” What on earth is that?”

He glanced up at her, recalling the exact moment he’d collected this little piece of history. Unbeknownst to all he’d followed the golden trio past a rather upset three headed dog, through some vines and prickly flying keys, watching them win a true game of wizarding chess. And though he’d traveled no further, he’d stayed in the shadows and watched as Hermione took care of Ron and prayed for Harry to have the strength to win. She’d been strong and cunning and brave and everything he’d ever wanted. That little piece of marble that he’d pocketed from the ruined knight reminded him of the exact moment that he’d fallen in love with her.

“ Just a bit of the past, Pans.”

She sent him a searching frown before sighing to herself, “Well, Hogwarts is done with us. Our lives are pretty much over now. Shall we?”

He sent her a radiant smile, tapping his trunk to follow him and escorting her out into the hallway, marble slipping into his pocket, “Oh I don’t know, Pans...I think our lives are just getting started.”

She snorted, “You’re just looking forward to a private car with your beautiful dearest.”

Closing the portrait, “Don’t blame me for picking an ugly suitor-“

A sizzle of a hex charged the air, “Draco Malfoy!” His laughter faded into the distance, along with her own as another year in Hogwarts came to an end.
