Chapter Fifteen - The Mistake
A/N: Soooo sorry for the late update! I have no good excuse, I’ve just been lazy. So sorry! I’ll try to update again within one to two weeks to make it up to you! This chapter isn’t even that long, or interesting, or anything. It’s just a bridge.
Chapter Fifteen – The Mistake
The next morning, the entire school turned silent as Harry entered the Great Hall. It was not hard to figure out why. Apparently, that little boy could not keep his mouth shut, precisely what Harry thought would happen. He did not really care; he was used to people starring. He went for his usual seat next to Dean, but he saw Hermione waving at him. He hesitated only a second before joining her and Ron. He had missed them. He was holding his breath as he sat down. He did not know how they would react to this.
“Oh, Harry, we’re so happy for you!”
Harry breathed out and relaxed a bit, but still stared doubtfully at them. He did not know how much he had cared what they thought until he felt how relieved he was. “Really? You are?”
“Of course we are, right, Ron?” Harry could sense a kick beneath the table, and Ron nodded, refusing to look at Harry. It was so much like Ron, Harry had to smile a little, despite the tense situation. “We’ve wondered why you spent so much time with him. At times, we actually thought you had gone over to the dark side.” Hermione laughed at the look on Harry’s face. “I know, I know. But you have to understand us. All of a sudden you start hanging out with your former enemy. Oh, the fine line between love and hate.” She looked at him goofily.
“Oh, shut up. Ron, you’re awfully quiet?”
Ron’s face turned red. “Sorry mate. I’m just thinking about how I’ve tried to fix you up with my sister. I didn’t know you were into blokes.”
Harry laughed, suddenly feeling more relieved than he had in a long time. No matter how they had ignored him, they were still his best friends (after Draco) and he wanted them to accept him for what he was. But that relief faded away slowly as they caught up and talked just like they had before. Throughout the conversation, Harry kept an eye on the Slytherin table, and for every minute he did not see Draco, he grew more and more worried. They had said they would see each other at breakfast. But he had probably just overslept or something, Harry thought as they walked to their first class of the day. He would see him in potions after this class.
----------
When he entered potions, Draco was already sitting in his seat. Harry headed for him, but Draco motioned at him not to. So, instead, he took a seat next to Hermione and Dean. That was when he saw Snape, looking even grimmer than usual. Harry felt his stomach twitch. He did not think students and teachers gossiped together, but who knew what he might have overheard? He did not comment on it though, which lead Harry to believe he did not know anything. Since when did he not comment on anything having to do with Harry Potter?
And the class moved on without anything happening, so Harry felt rather calm. He should not have though, because then something happened with Draco’s potion. What had just recently been a perfect light yellow mixture was now quickly turning grey, then green, and then a dark brown colour. Harry saw Draco go pale, as he took a swift glance up at his professor standing next to him. Harry could only guess what had happened, but he was prepared to bet his invisibility cloak on that Snape had done something.
“Mr. Malfoy, your potion is a mess. Detention, tonight at 10 o’clock.”
----------
At lunch, they met in the room of requirement. Harry had been sitting there for half an hour when Draco appeared.
“I think he’s mad at me.” He still looked very pale.
Harry wanted nothing more than to hold him and never let go. He desperately wanted to save him. “Please, don’t go tonight. We’ll go tell Dumbledore and then everything will be alright.”
“Harry, remember your promise! You said you wouldn’t tell anyone!”
Harry wanted to cry from frustration. He did not know what to do. No matter which way he turned, it would be bad. He had a bad feeling about tonight, and he desperately did not want Draco to go down there. But he did not want to break his promise either. He could not understand how stupid they had been, being so careless.
“But don’t you understand? He’s hurting you. He’s already raping you for crying out loud! Who knows what he’ll do tonight?!”
“It’s not rape if I don’t object.”
“Yeah, like you’ve never objected! But that’s not the point, the point is–”
“I don’t object! You don’t seem to understand this. But how could you, right? How could anyone who doesn’t have my father understand? I have to do what my father tells me to. And no matter what he’ll do tonight, it will be much worse if I don’t go and my father finds out.”
A tear escaped Harry’s eye and ran down his cheek. Draco just accepting his fate was too much for Harry to take. He desperately wanted Draco to object to this, to see how wrong it was. “You just do anything he tells you? What if he told you to kill me?!”
“Harry, that is not the same thing! I could never hurt you.”
Harry growled. He could not believe how incredibly stupid Draco was. “Can’t you see you’re already hurting me? What if he kills you?”
“That’s a risk I must take. I would be dead anyway if I betrayed my father.” And then Draco left, not even bothering to wait for an answer.
Harry wanted to follow him, but he did not think he could stand hearing more. And he would not be able to convince Draco anyway. He was too damned stubborn. So instead he cried, praying for Draco to be alright.

thrnbrooke: You didn’t need chapter fifteen, you need chapter sixteen. :P I’ll try to make it quick!
Queen of the Darkness: Yes, poor boys indeed. I would not want to be in any of their shoes! But I think I’d prefer Draco’s to Harry’s. Just sitting there, knowing what’s being done to the one I love..
ChloeWeir: Aaw, you made me happy! :D Sorry for the very late Christmas present. You’ll get a new chapter soon as compensation!
mrequecky: You’ll see how it goes in the next chapter!
