Truly Back

Author's note--FINAL chapter for "Fall"! It's rather short, pretty much because I just needed to get them to England. (Well, and there IS that one obstacle of the flight attendant left...) Thank you again for all of the reviews, and thanks for reading!

Chapter 15

Truly Back

Apparently the flight attendants had given up on trying to keep Harry, Draco, and Ron in their seats and were instead huddled at the front of the first class section, in the doorway to the cockpit, arguing amongst themselves whether the three men were possibly terrorists in disguise and what they could possibly want.

When the plane first started to go down, they had tried to secure themselves, but then as the time in between the drops got longer, the crew got up, keeping a sharp eye on the door between the plane and the cockpit. One of the newer, more naïve girls had called the captain on the in-flight phone and allowed Harry to speak with him, assuming that Harry was a mechanic or some sort of technician. After the black haired boy walked away, the male flight attendant sent her to check on the other passengers while he stood watch over the door. The captain and navigator were just as clueless about what was happening with the plane as the flight crew; the pilot had sent out a ‘May day’ signal when the plane originally started to drop, but he didn’t quite know how to explain the phenomenon to Ground Control in order to have them troubleshoot.

Now, though, the redhead and the black haired man were arguing with the male flight attendant, who adamantly refused to call the pilot or allow Harry into the cockpit. Harry was growing increasingly frustrated with him, since they only needed to know which way to go, but the man stubbornly glared at the both of them, his arms crossed over his chest, and he didn’t look as if he were going to budge.

Harry slid the toy wand into his sleeve as he walked back up the aisle, still trying to decide whether he should Imperius, Confund, or Glamour the flight attendant. He was being a real wanker, and Imperiusing him would be great satisfaction; Harry suddenly let out a chuckle as he beat back his inner Slytherin, no doubt influenced by Draco.

“How are you doing with the Hover Charm, mate?” Harry asked discreetly, stopping at Ron’s side as the redhead leaned against the wall, wand at his side.

“Brilliant,” Ron said back. “I feel fine, and Malfoy’s Propelling Charm is moving us right along. Just hope we’re going in the right direction.”

“Well, that’s why I went to get this,” Harry indicated the Muggle child’s wand. “Draco suggested distracting him and using a Glamour to make myself look like him to talk to the pilot.”

“How are you going to distract him?” Ron asked skeptically.

“I have no idea,” Harry admitted. “I wanted to just Confund him, but Draco’s not sure that’s the best way to go with this wand.”

“Malfoy having an attack of conscience?” Ron said in disbelief. “Maybe HE’s Confunded.”

“Stop that,” Harry swatted playfully at his friend. “He’s not evil anymore. Well…” Harry smirked and wiggled his eyebrows. “He is, but now I like it.”

“I hate you so much right now,” Ron put his hands over his ears. “I don’t want to hear that!”

“Then quit ragging on him,” Harry smiled sweetly.

“Boy,” Ron glowered under his breath. “Three years ago, you were joining me in ragging on him.”

“Times change,” Harry grinned, knowing his friend was just teasing. He added a part in his head about how the ‘ragging’ had changed to ‘shagging’, but he didn’t say it out loud out of respect that Ron could handle Harry’s and Draco’s relationship much better now, but that didn’t mean he wanted to HEAR details.

“Excuse me, sir, but I really need you to go back to your seat now,” their conversation was interrupted by the snooty tone of the male flight attendant, who was staring at them as if they were something he had stepped in. “You’ve had your little fun, but playtime is over.”

“I told you, we’re trying to help fix the problem with the plane,” Ron snapped venomously. Harry remembered that tone from when Ron would exchange barbs with Draco, back when Draco was a snotty little brat.

“We have our OWN mechanics, thank you very much,” the man crossed his arms and stuck his nose in the air. “And our pilot doesn’t need HELP from the likes of either of YOU.” Ron’s eyes narrowed, and Harry quickly stepped towards the attendant, turning his back to his friend. The man twitched as if he expected Harry to hit him. Harry tried to smile disarmingly as he slid the wand between his fingers.

Confundo,” Harry murmured, keeping the toy wand at his side as he channeled his magic. After hearing the flight attendant’s superior tone and the way he antagonized Ron, Harry didn’t much care whether he scrambled the man’s brain. It might actually be an improvement, though he DID keep careful control of the spell. “Now will you please get directions to the London airport where we’ll be landing? And keep the other flight attendants from interfering with us or the blonde man who is with us. Oh, and apologize to my friend. You understand?”

“I understand,” the flight attendant said monotonously, his face blank. Harry remembered watching Snape Confund Mundungus Fletcher in the Pensieve, and he hoped that he was doing it right. He retreated to Ron’s side, exchanging worried glances as the flight attendant blinked in confusion, shook his head a few times, and looked over at Ron and Harry, nodding almost civilly. The man turned and picked up the phone, speaking in a low voice to the pilot for several minutes before replacing the receiver and walking over to Ron and Harry.

“I’m sorry, sir,” he said, right off the bat. Ron blinked in surprise and Harry nodded. “The captain says that we are currently heading north-northeast, and we need to be heading due east with just a small turn to the south.”

“Thank you,” Harry replied. “You’ll contact the captain if we need to check our progress?”

“Of course, sir,” the man said. “There’s the phone if you would like to ask him yourself.” He abandoned his post, walking to the other flight attendants, and Harry grinned as he hurried to the back of the plane to relay the news to Draco.

They were not bothered for the remainder of the flight. Harry had to talk with the pilot twice more before they were heading in the correct direction, but all of the running back and forth he was doing was worth it to see Ron and Draco cooperating beautifully. There was a moment of tension when Ron thought Draco was going to overshoot the runway, but the blonde corrected himself at the last moment, just as Harry was sprinting towards the back of the plane.

The landing was rather smooth, all things considered. Ron’s lessening of the Hover Charm only caused the plane to bounce on the runway once, and then he dropped the spell, grinning as the passengers erupted in cheers again, along with the staff. Draco released the Propelling Charm, causing the plane to slow as it gradually lost momentum taxing down the runway. The pilot was able to steer and brake, and there were large machines waiting to tow them to the gate.

Draco quickly put the dildo back in its case as Harry and Ron came loping to the back of the plane, all smiles. Harry swept Draco into a victorious hug as Ron blanched a bit. Draco gave the ‘flute case’ to Harry, who disappeared for a moment to return it to its rightful owner while Ron shook Draco’s hand. They congratulated each other on a job well done, and then Ron turned pink and went back to their seats to gather their belongings. Harry had taken Draco in his arms and planted a sweet, romantic, triumphant kiss on Draco’s mouth, and Draco returned the kiss full-force, wrapping his arms around Harry as Ron fled.

Breathless, they broke the kiss and met Ron in the aisle, smiling goofily as he threw their jackets at them. They headed for the exit and made their way up the tunnel to the terminal.

“Welcome back, mates,” Ron breathed as he pushed the door open, walking into their arrival gate. Both Harry and Draco paused, their hearts fluttering. London, England; they were truly back.

Author's note--And thus, we have reached the end of the third installment in the "This is the Way I" series! Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has reviewed and supported me through this endeavor! Thank you for reading; I hope you enjoyed this segment, and I hope it was believable and realistic.

The next installment is tentatively titled "This is the Way I Break" (unless someone can suggest a better title) so I'll get to writing on that, and I'll see you then!

QueenBoadicea Thanks for your review! You make a VERY good point, and now Harry and Draco know that as well! *wiggling eyebrows* They can have all sorts of fun in London...except that they have a couple of very specific (and not-conducive-to-hot-sex-unfortunately) reasons for being there...

YES! I was HOPING that that part would make people laugh!!! I cracked up myself as well, so YAY! And about the Latin...*ahem* Okay, granted, I studied Latin for two semesters in college, and I spent at LEAST half an hour on Google trying to find the Latin word for 'airplane'. And then I read someone's post on a random forum about how Latin was a dead language, and then I was like, "Oh yeah DUH! Wow, I'm a huge retard!"

Which, of course, made me laugh, and so I decided to incorporate that into the story. Plus keep in mind that Harry is studying Spanish (where there IS a word for 'airplane') and the only other language he has experience with is Parseltongue, but he never really *studied* that...he could just speak it. But yeah, I had a "dumb" moment that turned out okay!

Oh, and Roozette wants Harry and Draco to take over the world with a band of demon monkeys. I have absolutely no doubt that Draco could DO it (with Harry, of course)...but I just don't think it's THAT realistic for THIS story...*wink*

Author's note--Just wanted to add one last THANK YOU to everyone who stuck with me to the end of this! I really, really appreciate it, and I LOVE YOU ALL!
