From Chapter 12:
"You may want to change your password. Neville's hurting now, but once he gets his wits about him, he'll be angry. And an angry Neville is an irrational Neville."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gryffindor Common Room:
{Bellatrix! I hate her! I wish it had been me to finish her. If it weren’t for her, I would still have my parents. And Malfoy’s mother did nothing, nothing to help them. [Well technically she did do something, she protected you.] That’s not the bloody point. She should have stopped her, or, at least gone to the authorities afterwards. [Well, now, that’s not really fair, is it? Malfoy said Bellatrix threatened to do same to him if his mum talked. Would your mum have let you be harmed?] No, she’d have wanted me safe, but…[No ‘buts’. Narcissa saved your life that night. You can’t dishonor your parents by holding it against her.] Wait, why am I talking to myself?}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slytherin Common Room:
“Pansy, we need to talk, now.”
“Oh, Draco, is this about the wedding this summer?”
“Pansy, I’ve spoken with my father’s barrister, no marriage contract has ever been drawn up between our families, we are not engaged.”
“Well of course they didn’t feel the need to draw up papers, it was verbally agreed upon and always understood that we would marry after graduation.”
“Well, I don’t care what was ‘verbally agreed upon’, I am not marrying you after graduation, I am not marrying you ever, at all, for any reason. In case you weren’t aware, I am now Lord Malfoy and what I say goes as far as my family. I say, you will NEVER be my wife! Have a most pleasant evening, Pansy.” With this, Draco spun on his heel and strode out in a way that would have done his father proud if not for the preceding actions.
“But, Dracoooo…….!”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gryffindor Common Room, one hour later:
“Harry, do you reckon we’re doing the right thing? Helping Malfoy, I mean?”
“Yea, Ron, I do. I mean when this law goes into effect, Hermione’s gonna be on the top of a whole lot of Death Eater’s wish lists. At least Malfoy helped us, well helped me is what I mean. His mum too.”
“Harry, you never told me, how did Malfoy help you?”
“Remember how I kept “mysteriously” coming up with information that kept us one step ahead of the Death Eaters? That info came from Malfoy, he made sure I knew where the Death Eaters were looking for us. He kept us one step ahead of them long enough to find the Horcruxes.”
“What?!”
“Err, Hermione, I didn’t see you there…How’s it going, everything alright, yea?”
“You two are going to sit down right now and explain every bit of the conversation I just overheard, and if either of you even makes me think you’re lying or holding out…We’ll just get to find out how ‘creative’ I can get with curses.”
Both young men looked at each other and gulped, then muttered, “Yes, ‘Mione.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two Hours(And A Whole Lot Of Explaining) Later:
“Mione, Mione, please! Please let us down, we’re sorry!”
“Yea, and please, please make the canaries leave us alone, we’re begging here!”
“Fine, ‘Finite Incantatem’ You two absolute idiots! I can’t believe you! How could you? And Ginny, Neville too? What could possibly have gone through all of your thick skulls?”
“Mione, I can’t speak for Ron, Ginny, or even Neville. All I can say is I hoped it would be a better option than some of the alternatives. I’ve already checked into it, this law is going to pass, no question. Every Death Eater or child of a Death Eater is gonna drool over the chance to get hands on you. Malfoy is the ‘only’ reason we lived long enough to find the Horcruxes. He risked it all to stop something that he found repulsive. He risked his inheritance, his family line, his life to make sure we ended it.”
“Mione, I’m sorry. I really am. Harry at least had intentions to put your best interest out there. I just trusted that Harry wouldn’t make the wrong choice and took a chance to get a little back from Malfoy.”
“What’d you ask Malfoy for, all of you?”
^mumbling^ “New brooms for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.”
“I asked him to swear an Unbreakable never to hurt you, Ginny didn’t ask for anything, and Neville just wanted to know what happened to his parents.”
“His parents?”
“Yea, it was ugly. Bellatrix had at them.”
“Oh, God, that‘s horrible! But, Harry, you’ve got to better explain why you’d go along with Malfoy. I just don’t get it.”
“From what I’ve been able to figure out about the law, if there are more than one request for a witch or wizard, the ministry will pick the one most able to provide for the requested. If two or more requesters are on equal footing in terms of money, the requested witch or wizard is given the option to choose. If it weren’t for the money issue, I wouldn’t have worried. Honestly, we have dozens of friends who would’ve pledged for you to protect you. Any of the Weasley’s for example, but the ‘provider clause’ shot that down quick. Most of the prominent Death Eaters families have money, big money, old money. I was terrified they’d get the nod because of the wording of the law.”
“Harry’s right, Mione. Me, or any of my brothers would do anything to protect you, but, we don’t have the money to get the nod from the Ministry. You’d be at the whim of some idiot paper pusher down there. I’m sorry if you’re mad at us, but, if it means my friend is safe, I can live with it.”
“Is Malfoy really reformed?”
“Nope, he’s still, sneaky, snarky, and a right git. But, he’s not evil, corrupt, or dangerous to any of us. So, at least there’s an improvement.”
“Hahaha, Ron, really? A joke, now?”
“Not joking, Mione.”
“Hermione, do you trust me? Do you trust that I’ll always be your friend, your brother, and try to protect you even when you don’t want me to?”
“Of course, Harry! … I guess saying that means I need to trust your judgment and give the ferret a chance?”
“Considering the alternatives, that might be best.”
“I was afraid you were going to say that, Harry.”
“So, you’ll try, at least? He’s really not such a bad sort once you get to know him.”
“He gets one chance, if I don’t like what I hear or see, that’s it.”

Authors note: Well, it seems my inspiration has returned, finally. I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and condolences. Now, let’s see if we can finish this story out.
