Chapter 15: The Full Moon
Albus sighed as he watched the sun set and adjusted his backpack before walking back into the castle. He was ready for a nice long sleep that he knew he probably wouldn’t get. His body was exhausted, having been worked harder than ever before by Teddy and Bill for the past few weeks, but his mind was still torn. When and if he fell asleep his dreams were plagued by images of Grayback, a greater good, and the full moon. Now the moon was exactly twenty-four hours from rising full and Albus knew his father had asked that Albus not be given the wolfsbane potion.
Albus moved down to his common room and tossed his stuff into a chair before heading back out down the hallway until he got to a little door barely visible because of its black wood in the dark. It didn’t have a handle but that didn’t seem to faze Albus in the slightest. He stopped, knocked twice, and then leaned in close to the door, “Slytherin knows your secret.” The door seemed to shiver, as though it was nervous, then swung open allowing a few clouds of nasty smelling, greenish-yellow smoke to trail out and clear away to show two blondes sitting near a silver caldron.
“How’s it going?” Albus asked as he sat down in the only empty chair left, “Smells like you’ve been busy. Make a breakthrough or just another option?”
“Actually we started the life potion from the stone.” Leon said without looking up from the book he currently had his nose in, “There’s a spell one of us has to learn before we can go any further though.”
“A spell?” Albus raised an eyebrow at the Gryffindor as he pulled out a book from Scorpius’s book bag though this one was obviously for homework if the disgusted look on his face was anything to go by, “Why a spell?”
“Because we can’t find any books on potions that will help make a body with just bones.” Scorpius said as he turned the page on the potions book he had before he stirred the potion that was in front of the three and added an ingredient that turned the green goop into a ruby liquid that was similar to a liquid licorice.
Albus wrinkled his nose and tried to take in the paragraph on transfiguration he was supposed to be learning but his tired brain had already given up on it before he had even started. He groaned and reached over to take up Scorpius’s hand, “You got a minute?”
The young Malfoy nodded as he turned the flame down to let the potion simmer and got up to follow Albus into the back of the room, “What’s up?”
“I…wanted to talk to you about tomorrow…” Albus paused, “I…don’t want to turn you…”
“Al, you don’t—”
Albus held up his hand, “No, I do, it’s just…you don’t know how confusing this is…”
“What do you mean?” Scorpius asked dropping his voice as he did so and cocking his silver-blonde head to the side in confusion, “How is me wanting to be with you confusing?”
“It’s not that.” Albus made a noise somewhere between a groan of frustration and a growl of confusion, “it’s mainly Grayback and this training…I don’t want you in this kind of stress.”
“What stress could you be under?” Scorpius asked as he brushed his hair behind one ear with his hand, “its just lycanthropy.”
“Lycanthropy isn’t that simple.” Albus muttered as he leaned back against the wall and slid down it, “I’ve got all these new feelings bouncing around and clashing and its driving me insane.”
Scorpius sighed and held Albus to his chest, “You’re not supposed to protect me…its supposed to be the other way around.”
“But you already protected me…you made sure I lived! Now its my turn and I’m going to make sure I don’t put you in pain.”
Scorpius stroked Albus’s raven hair and exhaled through his nose while closing his eyes, “Fine but you’ve gotta be the one that learns the spell.”
Albus chuckled, “Deal.”

Gale stroked his snake calmly as he looked out the window of the boy’s dorm, “It’s the full moon tonight, love, “He hissed to the reptile that seemed to be purring, “I do hope our friend Albus is enjoying his night…”
The full moon winked down from her silk blanket of sky and pillows of stars at the slowly yellowing lawns of Hogwarts. She was the spotlight that lit up the worn down path to the forest where, for tonight, two werewolves and a wizard that smelled of a wolf were howling at her and keeping company in her strangely cold yet warming light.
Albus was enjoying the freedom and lack of rules he was feeling flooding his system. His ebony hair had creeped down his back and face and now, with every small gust of wind, his fur rippled like a flowing stream and cooled the bare skin under it. In a burst of color the gold ring in his emerald eyes became the main color even before his pupil dilated to take in more light and to glow themselves in the spooky moon glow. He sighed in pleasure. It felt as though the balloon of stress that had built up in his chest had finally exploded out of his body and few off to go torment someone other than him.
He howled again before turning to Teddy whom, for tonight, had brilliantly white fur and shining crystal blue eyes. Teddy pulled his lip up to show his teeth in a form of wolfish smirk. Albus nodded to him and looked towards Bill. Bill hadn’t changed form, except to get a shaggier hairstyle, but everything about him, his manor and smell even, gave off the image of a wryly red wolf.
Albus started to walk deeper into the forest. He didn’t know where he was going but with all the energy and power that was pumping through his body faster than his heart was pumping blood he had to move faster. He kept going until his body forced him to break into a run.

Scorpius sat up in bed with a start. Something was wrong and he knew it. Scorpius slipped out of bed, into his slippers, and out the door without noticing the boy curled into the window. He creeped down the stairs to the common room, out the wall to the hallway, and up several flights of stars until he got to the portrait of the fat lady that concealed the entrance to the Gryffindor tower.
“Sanctus Dominus Deus.” Scorpius murmured, taking advantage of the fat lady’s slumber.
“Of course dear…” she mumbled sleepily as she swung open to allow him entrance.
He slipped in unnoticed by the sleepy Gryffindors working on homework and up to the first years boy’s dorm and nudged the sleeping Leon who’s bed was right next to the door, “Wake up.”
The blonde Gryffindor smacked his hand way, “Go….way…..I’m….sweeping...”
“Sweeping? Come on Frenchie wake up!” Scorpius snapped as he yanked the covers off his friend, “I think something is wrong with Al!”
Leon sat up and glared at Scorpius as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, “The boy is a freaking werewolf he can take care of himself!”
“That’s just it! I think something is going to happen to him!”

Albus grunted as he hit something hard that hadn’t been there a moment before. He growled at the object even before he realized it was bigger, more powerful, and breathing more heavily than he was.
“Hello Albus.” A gravelly voice, like talons being scrapped against a gravestone, said in fluent werewolf, “Decide to check your roots out?”
Albus whimpered and backed away from the man who just shredded the dominant feeling he had had. He cautiously decided to see if his instincts were right and looked down at the man’s feet. The furry paw-like werewolf feet ended in long sharp claws surrounded with the silver-gray color of the fur. He trailed his eyes up seeing the very dangerous werewolf for the first time. The long muscular legs had the same matching fur attaching themselves to the very heavily built torso of someone who’d been working hard ever since they were born. The arms matched the same description; ending in long, blackening, sharp claws that could easily shred through flesh and bone. His eyes went just a tad bit higher to take in the long yellowing fangs that grinned at him in the same wolfish way Teddy had only somehow a lot more sinisterly and finally his eyes met the bright silver eyes of the man he knew he should probably be bowing to right about now.
He started to back up more until he felt the rough bark of a tree behind him, ‘damn it.’ He thought before he decided to turn and try to run.
It didn’t work though as he was cut off and ran headlong into the hard strong chest again, “Why are you trying to leave pup? You should stay with your Alpha not two lower class mutts,”
Albus’s head started to swim and finally he fell to his knees his new tail and ears dropping submissively to the large werewolf in front of him.
Fenrir Grayback smiled and pulled him up again, “Calm yourself puppy. You want answers? Come to my den. But if you stay here….a fight is going to break out.”

Scorpius and Lean ran down the lawns trying to get to the forest. Scorpius was ahead his head swimming with all sorts of ideas on what could be happening right now. Leon tripped and stumbled still not fully awake, “Come back here dammit! There are werewolves in that forest!”
“There’s three of them they should be sane enough to not attack me!” Scorpius yelled back as he entered the forest and ran to the clearing were Teddy and Bill stood looking worried to each other but dangerous to the two blondes that had entered their domain, “Or….not….”
Leon stopped before he hit Scorpius’s back and blinked, “Why do we always run into the scary crap in this forest? Just once I’d like to see a nice unicorn.”
