Each Other
Chapter 15
Each Other
Draco looked again at the clock. Where the hell was she? She had left the Great Hall about 30 minutes ago and she still hadn’t returned. Anxiously he looked around wondering if she had come back and slipped in on the end of the Gryffindor table instead of her usual place, or maybe she was talking to another student at another table. Frowning he still couldn’t see her, now getting agitated he began stabbing at the piece of turkey in his plate.
“Dracooooo I don’t know why you deal with the sufferable know it all mudblood, if it was up to me I would-” Pansy was cut short by Draco’s sneer.
“Well, it’s not up to you. So mind your own fucking business.” He sneered back at her before getting up and beginning to walk away, but paused and looked over his shoulder at her.
“And its Draco, not Dracoooo.” He said before making his way out of the Great Hall in search of Hermione. Pansy gave a snort and carried on with her food.
_~*~_~*~_
Hermione looked back and forth from Ron to Harry, her mind just simply couldn’t comprehend what Harry and Ron wanted her to do. How could they really make her choose between them and Draco?
“Fuck you.” She sneered at both of them, furious at them for making her choose. Both Harry and Ron gasped at her language, never before hearing such words come out of her mouth. Hermione’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at her two best friends.
“And you call yourself friends? Well real friends wouldn’t make me choose.” Hermione yelled before storming out of the Gryffindor tower and heading to the Head dorms to wait for Draco.
“Hermione….” Harry yelled after her, not wanting to upset his best friend. Guilt settled heavily on his shoulders as he watched her walk away from them, wiping her eyes to clear away the evidence of her tears; his gut wrenching in shame. Sighing, he looked at Ron who was frowning, as he watched her walk away from them.
“Well that tells us whose side she’s on. I hope her and ferret face are happy together.” He muttered before stalking away moodily.
_~*~_~*~_
Draco turned his head when the portrait swung open and a very angry Hermione came marching in.
“I’m going to fucking kill them!” She muttered to herself as she brushed away the stream of tears that were falling down her face.
“How could they? They were supposed to be my friends?” She said out loud and walked into the common room to see Draco watching her. Bursting into tears she ran to him, and with her arms wrapped tightly around him, she wept.
“Shh, what’s wrong baby?” He asked while holding her tightly and stroking her hair. He heard her muffled response but had no idea what she had just said, she just shook harder as she cried even more in his arms.
Draco patiently waited until her tears finally slowed, and said, “Calm down, what happened?” Hermione pulled away and hiccupped a few times before attempting to speak.
“They………made……me…….choose!” She said before burying her head into his chest and crying even more. Draco frowned at what she had just said wondering what she was talking about. Who was making her choose?
Who was making his Hermione cry?
Anger began to build in his gut as he attempted to calm her down. Leading her to the couch, he sat down and pulled her into his arms.
After some time of Hermione crying and hiccupping she finally stopped. It seemed she had cried herself to the point of exhaustion and just passed out. Draco picked up her limp form and carried her to his room where he laid her on the green and black silk comforter. Perching himself on the edge of the bed he watched her sleeping form, he brushed his fingers over the tear stains on her cheeks and her bloodshot eyes swollen from where she had been weeping so much. Draco could feel his anger rising, how could anyone want to hurt someone so innocent? His thoughts were interrupted when Hermione’s voice cut through the silence.
“What are you thinking about?” She whispered to him, Draco blinked and looked down at her face. Smiling, he brushed his fingers through her hair, curling it around a stray lock of hair.
“Are you alright?” He asked, Hermione’s eyes flashed in pain before nodding.
“What happened?” He asked softly, Hermione shook her head as tears began to filled her eyes, blinking she looked up into his handsome face.
“They wanted me to choose between you and them? How could I? I can’t choose between my best friends and my boyfriend?” Hermione said before more tears began to fall down her face. Draco’s heart shattered as the words left her mouth. How could Scar head and Weaselbee make her choose between them and him? Couldn’t they see that this would tear her apart?
Who would she choose? Came the voice in his head
Gulping, he opened his mouth to ask her that question. Who would she choose? Him or them?
“What did you say?” He asked, his voice hoarse with emotion, Hermione frowned at his voice and looked up. It was when she saw his face she understood why he was talking like that. He was scared she was going to choose them over him. Gently taking his hand she placed a kiss onto his palm.
“It’s you. I choose you,” She whispered before looking into his grey eyes, smiling she looked at him.
“You were the one who didn’t make me choose. How could I abandon you like that?” Hermione asked before pulling him down for a kiss. Draco let out a strangled moan before placing his hands on her cheeks and kissing her senseless.
_~*~_~*~_
It was at breakfast that she saw them next, she watched as both Harry’s and Ron’s gazes swept her way then looked away, not acknowledging her presence. Gathering her courage Hermione walked towards the Gryffindor table and walked towards them. Her eyes darted to the Slytherin table and it reminded her that Draco had Quidditch practice and had skipped breakfast to get in some more practice now that he was captain. She had been happy when he had announced his news; she didn’t really follow the game but assured him that she would cheer him on. Smiling to herself she shifted the books in her hand; she had a double period of Muggle Studies and had told Draco to meet her in the library after her lessons. Somehow not having him there, near her, made her feel a little empty knowing that he was not near. Shaking her head she headed towards the end of the Gryffindor table knowing that she would not be welcome sitting with Harry and Ron because of the choice she had made. It made her heart ache that they had made her choose between them and Draco.
Couldn’t they tell it was tearing her apart?
Willing herself not to cry in front of everyone she passed Harry, Ron and the rest of the gang and headed to the far end of the table. She sat down and placed her heavy books next to her. She looked around at the deserted area around her and took a deep breath of courage before letting her eyes wonder further down the table to where her group of friends sat. Well the rest of them were at the moment she thought but somehow she knew that when they heard about her and Draco that friendship would be broken; just like it had with Harry and Ron.
Sadness filled her eyes but she was determined that no one saw it, and being Hermione Granger she took an empty plate and began to fill it with food. Ignoring all the stares and the murmurs from the surrounding tables and her own; she carried on chewing the sausage and began reading the latest Daily Prophet .
Draco blew a stray piece of hair out of his eye and made his way to the Great Hall to have some breakfast. The team had whined about not having breakfast, so cutting them slack, Draco had given in and told them to hurry up and have breakfast; otherwise they would all be training for another hour in the cold January morning. Draco had smirked as he watched all of the Slytherin team get off their brooms as fast as they could and head straight for the Great Hall for some hot tea and cocoa and a hearty breakfast. Draco marched in after his team and headed for the Slytherin table to sit next to Zabini. Draco slid onto the wooden bench next to his long time friend.
“All right.” Zabini greeted him with a nod whilst he took a sip of his warm tea. Draco nodded his acknowledgement and grabbed an empty plate and began piling it with food. As much as he would hate to admit it his team was right, it was too early to practice without decent food in your stomach; to which his stomach approved by growling loudly. Zabini smirked as he heard Draco’s hunger.
“Hungry, Malfoy?” He said smirking, Draco snorted.
“You have no idea.” He replied before heaping the hot food into his plate.
“So how’s it going with Granger?” Blaise asked, Draco froze and frowned and then looked at his best friend. He glanced around quickly making sure no one was listening before leaning in.
“We are ‘officially’ a couple.” Draco said proudly, Blaise smirked and slapped him on the back to congratulate him.
“Good for you, always knew you had a thing for the muggle.” He said before returning his attention to his food. Draco smirked, Blaise really did know him better than anyone else, he just hoped he wasn’t that obvious with his feelings for Hermione.
“Does everyone know?” He asked, Blaise looked back and smirked.
“Well, they think your shagging. But its all gossip, it’s Parkinson. She got a touch of the green eye when you brushed her off. But don’t worry about it mate, you can trust me.” Blaise said before taking a bite of his toast.
“We just wanted to keep it quiet at the moment.” Draco said, Blaise shrugged his shoulders in response.
“Whatever you say.” Blaise said returning back to his breakfast; Draco let his eyes go to the Gryffindor table and frowned when he didn’t see Hermione in her normal seat. He let his gaze travel over the length of the Gryffindor table and scowled when he saw Hermione alone at the end of the table. His heart broke when he saw her trying desperately to ignore all the stares and the murmurs that were surrounding her.
“Draco, did you-” Pansy never got to finish her sentence because Draco stood up and grabbed his plate and his cup of coco and looked in Hermione’s direction.
“Looks like its about to become public.” Draco said to Zabini before leaving the Slytherin table and heading to the end of Gryffindor table where Hermione was. He heard the gasps from all around when he placed his plate and cup onto the Gryffindor table opposite Hermione. Hermione frowned when she saw a plate and mug appear in front of her, looking up she saw Draco standing there in his Quidditch uniform looking all sexy. Hermione had to bite her lip to suppress her moan that was threatening to come out as she ran her eyes over his uniformed body.
Draco watched as she looked up, her eyes shining with unshed tears but then changed to passion and desire. He smirked as he realised her eyes were travelling over his body, obviously the sight of him in his Quidditch uniform was turning her on. Smirking he sat down on the seat opposite her, Hermione frowned as she watched him glance at someone behind her and gave them and arrogant snort before grabbing her hands and lacing there fingers together. Hermione grasped his fingers and gave them a gentle squeeze, a rush of murmurs began much louder this time. Ignoring it all he leaned over the table and brushed his lips against Hermione’s, they both heard the loud gasps around them. Smirking to herself, Hermione pulled him closer and kissed him back with such fervour she heard him moan and then growl at her. Pulling back reluctantly he sat back down and looked into her eyes.
“What the fuck?” He heard Pansy shriek as she watched the scene unfold in front of her. Smirking he began eating his breakfast.
“Draco, are you sure?” He heard Hermione whisper to him, lifting his eyes he gave her a warm smile and gently tugged her hand and placed a kiss on the inside of her wrist. It tugged at his heart to know that she was concerned about him and about what would happen when his Slytherin classmates found out, but truth be told; he simply just didn’t care.
“Absolutely. I’m a Malfoy, and Malfoy’s don’t care what other people think. You know me babe, when have I ever cared what other’s have thought.” He replied arrogantly before giving her a cheeky smile and taking a sip of his cocoa. Hermione gave him a grateful smile before carrying on with her breakfast.
So there they sat in the middle of the Great Hall, with whispers and gossip flying furiously around them and they really didn’t care. They had each other; and at that moment, that was all that really mattered.
