Who Killed Ronald Weasley?
News Flash: The Deceased Has Spoken
A special report by Anita Scribe, The Daily Prophet
I have received special top-secret information from a reliable, unnamed source that the tragic ghost of Ronald Bilius Weasley has visited the Chief Investigating Officer Boadicea Basher. My source tells me that Spectre Weasley paid Auror Basher a visit and attempted to offer his unique insight into the murder of his corporeal self, although it seems that Weasley\'s attempts at being helpful were met with cynicism. In the words of my source, Auror Basher screamed and attempted to cast a spell on the ghost when he appeared to her.
This calls into question Madame Basher\'s motives if a source of irreproachable insight into the whole sordid affair can be overlooked so easily. This reporter was lead to believe that Aurors were made of stronger stuff.
When I tried contacting Miss Basher for her opinion on this latest piece of information, I was informed that there had been no such contact made with Mr. Weasley. I know which take on the story I believe. This leads this hardened reporter to ask the questions: What is the Ministry trying to cover up? Who did kill Ronald Weasley? Will the whole truth ever be revealed? I ponder this last question more than the rest, as I witnessed three Romanian ghost hunters enter the Ministry of Magic prior to the release of this report. Should the Ministry be able to silence a ghost? Have your say. Page 8.
Basher put down the latest copy of the Daily Prophet. The only other person who knew that Ron Weasley\'s ghost had visited her was her lover, Colin Creevey. Why would Colin leak that information to the papers? Why? He wouldn’t have betrayed her that way.
Picking up the case files that lay on the desk, she read over her current findings: there was insufficient evidence to convict any one person of the crime.
They were all guilty, but in different ways. There were no fingerprints or out-and-out admissions from the suspects. OK…there were confessions from the normal throng of crazies who owned up to every crime committed. But Basher knew she had the murderer; she just didn’t know who it was. She\'d thought that it must be Molly. All along she was blaming Molly, then Weasley Junior does little more than call his mother a slag.
Basher was certain that under Veritaserum, Molly Weasley would have sung like a lark. Now… her theories were up in the air, again.
MURDER CASE FILE #3110-WEASLEY
Chief Investigating Auror: Boadicea Basher
Case File opened 31 October 2000; closed 2 November 2000
Autopsy Findings, 31 October 2000
Detailed autopsy carried out by Chief Coroner Ivor Cleaver found the following:
Deceased has been identified as Ronald B. Weasley.
The victim was found fully clothed on a bed in Room 13 of the Leaky Cauldron. Preliminary reports found that the victim had been strangled and stabbed.
Deceased was stabbed ten times with a sharp three-inch (7.62 cm) serrated knife (initially found in the body, confirmed as only knife used). Blood placement at the scene of the crime signifies that the deceased was dead when first stabbed.
Lividity (pooling of blood after death) is fixed, confirming that body was moved after death.
Deceased had a 2-meter length of satin rope tied using a Full Blood Knot around his neck. Rope was pulled so tight that rope fibres were imbedded in the victim’s neck.
Deceased had various narcotic substances in his blood stream, most significantly the Muggle drug, Methamphetamine (street name: Speed).
There were also large amounts of hemlock found in the deceased’s stomach, alongside residues of coffee and a light meal of salad leaves.
Discoloration of the deceased’s knuckles and the presence of skin fragments under his fingernails signify that the deceased had been in a scuffle within the last twelve hours.
Photographic Interpretation: The Leaky Cauldron, 31 October 2000
Report of Colin Creevey, Auror Photographer
\'Fucking betrayer,\' Basher thought. \'First time I trust a man after my husband\'s death and he ends up spilling his guts to the press.\'
Various photographs show a small dagger and a length of rope lying next to the deceased; the dagger is 10 centimetres from right ear of deceased, and the rope just below deceased throat, partially imbedded into neck.
On the night table to the right of the deceased was a portion of blank parchment, and a broken quill.
No evidence of breaking and entering was found. No evidence of any disturbance in room.
Photographic evidence has been logged on 31 October 2000, witnessed by B. Basher.
Location Interviews: The Leaky Cauldron, 31 October 2000
Tom, owner: Last name unknown. No prior offences on file. Text of interview attached.
Auror Basher: When did you last see the deceased, Ronald Bilius Weasley?
Landlord of Leaky Cauldron: I saw him…
Auror Basher: Could you please speak clearly into the recording device, and if you don’t mind, could you elaborate on who you saw, please? Kindly refrain from referring to the victim as him, this is a murder enquiry I must remind you.
Basher skipped through the interview notes to the line about the dagger.
Auror Basher: Did you remove the dagger from the body?
Landlord: Yeah…yes. I thought I saw him breathing.
Auror Basher: Did you loosen the rope around his neck?
Landlord: What do you think? I thought he was still alive.
Auror Basher: Tell me Tom, what do you think about the death of Mr. Weasley?
Landlord: Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say! The blighter still owes me for the damage from the fracas he caused last week! No, I shan’t be at all sad not to see that no good drugs dealer again.
Auror Basher: Thank you, you may leave.
Auror Basher: End interview, Pensieve off.
Opinion: Physically able to have committed crime, but has barroom as alibi. Pensieve recorder under bar shows he did not leave from 17:00 – 23:00, for only 15 minutes, then returned until 2:00. Found the body during morning room service 8:30 – 9:00 31 October 2000. Dismissed as a potential murderer.
Basher quickly scanned the page again, looking for anything that would tie any of the suspects to the crime. As before, only the knife could possibly be linked to a suspect, and she was sure that it belonged to Molly Weasley. Looking over the paper she continued to read…
Area canvas could find no one else who saw or heard anything. Those willing to comment spoke of loud noises behind the Leaky Cauldron but no solid leads. Club Echelon shares alley with Leaky Cauldron.
End case notes: 14:00 31st October 2000.
Summation, 2 November 2000:
“You really are quite the woman aren’t you?” Whipping around in her chair, wand at the ready, Basher came face-to-face with the ghost of Ron Weasley for the second time in the last twenty-four hours.
“Have you not figured it out yet?” Basher sat back in her chair and exhaled deeply, she knew that the ghost couldn’t hurt her.
“I thought all those little clues I kept whispering in that twat of a reporter’s ear would have given the game away. Fucking bitch, so easy to manipulate. I told her to come, and she did, right there on the spot. I laughed at the pathetic fucking hag. Wanna know who killed me do ya?”
“I don’t think you know who killed you! I think you were too off your face when you were strangled to even know.” Basher was not going to play Ron’s twisted game, and if there were any truth to the rumours about him being stupid, it would be easy to get him to reveal the murderer just to prove her wrong.
“So as you can see, I have had enough of fucked-up little men trying to cling to power for one day; you know absolutely nothing. Just stay dead, you little freak.” It worked, as Ron’s spectral glow went decidedly greener and his voice became harsh and angry.
“That fucking bitch Granger and no good wimp, Longbottom. They’re the ones who did the final deed. Ha, I’ve shocked you, haven’t I? Bet you thought it was my sweet fucked-up mother. That bitch just moved my body to that dump of a room. I was already dead when she got there. I passed through her scrawny head about three times trying to scare the old bat while she happily treated me like a pin cushion. Then, that Zabini fuckwit came into the room to see what she was doing. Got his cock out as soon as he saw her on top of me. Then stabbed me himself once he saw that was what she was doing. The pair of them fucked like rabbits at the end of the bed while I lay dead on top of it.”
“You said it was Granger and Longbottom; did they work together?”
“Work that one out for yourself, you slag. I will tell you, it’s hilarious that neither knows the other is involved. That’s all I’m giving you. And you owe me now. Just remember that when a stranger touches you, or you feel eyes on you from across the room, it’s payment for giving you the fucking culprits. See ya, bitch…”
Basher sat there for what seemed like an eternity. She felt horrible for thinking that Colin could have betrayed her, and vowed to make up for it when this was all done. Little did the bastard of a ghost know that she’d be exorcising him from everyone’s lives once the case was over, and she had the shaman-connections to do it in a most painful way. Colin had worked hard for his place in the Auror hierarchy and no foul-mouthed spectre would be messing with that!
Getting up from her desk, she moved to the door and yelled at the top of her voice. “Granger to the Observation Room, and get Shacklebolt and Crabbe; I’ll need them there as well. Oh, and get me Creevey!”
