Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Chloe sat and rocked Severus as the people before her spoke in hushed tones. The elder Weasley spoke first.
“I’m Arthur Weasley. My son Bill said he met you before. Welcome to Hogwarts. I wish we could have met under different circumstances. It’s a shame…an outrage.” He shook his head and backed away.
“Ms. Browning…my brother Aberforth.” Albus motioned to the old man, who nodded to her, never taking his eyes from Severus. “Mr. Ronald Weasley and his wife, Hermione Weasley.” The two nodded to her and the young woman, Hermione, caught Chloe’s eye. She gave her a look of pity that pierced her heart.
“And that is Mr. Harry Potter.” The man, known all around the wizarding world as the ‘Chosen One’ stepped toward the bed. He looked down and his eyes flickered slightly toward Chloe, the rest of the time, they were on Severus.
“We will leave you now, if that is alright?” Albus whispered. Chloe nodded and they turned to go. Chloe stroked Severus’ head and crooned in his ear.
“Oh my love…my love…please be strong for me. Be strong one more time…” her tears fell from her eyes once more and she kissed his brow.
She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to meet a pair of grief stricken green eyes. Harry spoke softly in her ear.
“When he recovers you tell him…you tell him I will make her pay.” Chloe looked into his eyes and nodded.
“I’ll tell him. You make sure she does…for him.” She choked back a sob. Harry reached over and grasped Severus’ hand briefly and let go. He nodded to Chloe once more and exited the room.

Hours went by. Chloe summoned Frenny to her and requested some of her things be brought here to the dungeons so that she didn’t have to go back to her room for awhile.
Frenny wasn’t happy about it, but she brought Chloe’s things and stayed to serve her lunch and tea. Frenny didn’t like the idea of sleeping in the dungeons.
“You don’t have to Frenny! Just make sure I have my things and you may go. I will call you if I need something, alright?” Frenny’s eyes lit up.
“Oh yes Ms. Chloe! You just call Frenny if yous be needing anything.” And with a ‘POP’, she was gone.
Poppy came in and out, but she had several fifth and sixth years in the hospital ward. Apparently, some students had taken a few experimental potions. So Poppy was relieved that Chloe told her to go for the night, and if she needed anything, she would send Frenny.
Poppy left sleeping draught and pain elixir for Severus on the night stand next to Chloe.
The room was eerily quiet.
She listened to the sounds of the fire in the fireplace and to Severus breathing. He looked more at peace now, she was thankful for that.
She moved to lay alongside Severus on the bed. It was no use sitting up. She untied her hair and settled herself in to sleep. She held him against her chest, arms wrapped around him, as he continued to sleep. Every once in awhile he would stir and she would kiss his head and talk to him. She even hummed a song to him once. Nothing special, just something to sooth his ravaged spirit.
After she ate the remaining sandwiches on the platter Frenny had brought her, she looked out into the night sky. She saw the stars twinkling out in between the clouds. It occurred to her, Severus and she had never walked outside before together at night. Perhaps when he recovered, she would ask him to walk with her…
