chapter 15

A/N had to repost cos somehow it got deleted ick

Pansy’s heart was beating a tattoo in her chest as she ran through the hallways, most people were in dinner right now and she was desperate for the quiet solace of the Slytherin common room where she could plot the downfall of the man who had broken her heart and his mudblood whore.

She arrived at the Slytherin common room door, spat the word ‘pureblood’, stormed inside and slammed the door behind her before throwing herself into a nearby chair.
How dare he? He was hers! He was promised to her by Lucius.

If she was honest with herself I wasn’t his infidelity that bothered her, if he had been with another pureblood she would have put the bitch in her place and made sure that she didn’t sniff around her Draco anymore but that would have been it. No repercussions for Draco. But it was a mudblood! And she was fucking pregnant too! That was Pansy’s place; she was to be the mother of the next Malfoy heir.

Many thoughts flashed through Pansy’s mind, she grinned momentarily imagining the damage she could do with a couple of well placed Avada Kedavra\'s. But no, she didn’t want to kill Draco, not even the mudblood. Not that Pansy would remorse the death of Hermione granger and her foul half-blood brats, quite the opposite in fact; she didn’t like to get her hands dirty.

Suddenly in a rare moment of genius Pansy hit upon the perfect plan. Yes this would do nicely; Draco would be hers after all. And with that she pulled a piece of parchment and a quill out of her robe pocket and began scribbling hurriedly.

The next day was a Saturday and Hermione rose very early, 5:30 am. She was finding it difficult to sleep lately and sighed resignedly kicking her crimson duvet off of the bed and onto the floor before heaving herself up clumsily.

She was going to meet with Harry Ron and Ginny today. She felt she had been neglecting them recently and wanted to make it up to them.

She plodded into the bathroom wearing her normal (albeit transfigured to be large enough to fit over her swollen stomach) Chudley cannons Quidditch t-shirt. She pulled it over her head sleepily muttering the concealment charm to hide her stomach from the students of Hogwarts and stepped into the shower.

When Hermione was showered and dressed (In a fairly conservative white shirt and faded jeans) she made her way to the Gryffindor common room. Today she would tell her three friends about her pregnancy, she hadn’t even consulted Draco but she conceded that he really had no choice in the matter, she would tell them anyway.

A large knot of anxiety had formed in her chest and her footsteps echoed ominously on the hard stone floor as she progressed to the tower.

“Hiya Mione!” Called Ron joyously, noticing his friend walk through the common room door.

Ron’s happy demeanour lay in the fact that the potion making him lust after Neville had finally worn off and he was finally able to concentrate on things without his mind drifting to disturbingly erotic thoughts about his fellow room mate. In fact last night had been a struggle for all the boys in Gryffindor who tried to keep the lusty boys separate in their shared dorm for most of the night. Seamus was currently sporting a black eye as a trophy for his efforts and Neville himself had a badly twisted ankle, but the boys had all made a silent pact to keep the events a secret. Gryffindors were nothing if not loyal and for that Ron was supremely grateful.

“Oh hey guys” she mumbled distractedly, she thought she was going to be sick in front of most of Gryffindor who had today all seemed to decide to hang out in their shared common room (typical!).

“Um Harry, Gin, Ron? Wanna hang by the lake today, I kinda have something important to talk to you guys about.”

The trio looked up at their friend concernedly, all three had been worrying about Hermione recently, she had been withdrawn lately and although they respected that she wanted to keep whatever was bothering her, a secret they were all glad she had decided to open up.

“Sure Hermione” replied Ginny answering for the boys as all four of them walked sombrely out of the common room leaving the rest of Gryffindor chattering obliviously behind.

Meanwhile Draco was still in bed facing the ceiling relaying the events of yesterday through his mind. Although he may have been angry with his potions master for meddling the way he did a felt a slight twinge of gratefulness deep inside. It was probably a good thing that Hermione would simply forgive all his past mistakes, although he would have preferred her to able to do that on her own. He groaned. He would need a heart to heart with her later.

Lazily he pulled himself out of bed and shivered as the cold air of the room his bare chest. Rubbing his eyes in a childish-un-Malfoy like gesture he peered at the clock. Damn! It was only 6:15! He shrugged lazily and went into the bathroom, had a shower and walked downstairs for an early breakfast.

To his surprise when he arrived at the Slytherin table Pansy was already there, biting her nails anxiously pushing some food around an obviously un-touched plate.

Odd, Pansy was usually not up before 10 and was never at breakfast without her loyal troupe of Slytherin girls. Draco, however, didn’t care enough to ponder this for to long and sat down reaching for a triangle of toast which he gratefully popped into his mouth and chewed on thoughtfully.

Hermione took a deep breath as she reached the lake. The giant squid was up early this morning making its presence know my occasionally squirting water and unsuspecting by passers. Choosing a small alcove in some rocks just out of the reach of the squid and its squirting water she settled down and waited for her friends to settle beside her.

It was Ginny who spoke first.

“So…um…Hermione what is it that you wanted to tell us?”

Hermione cleared her throat and took a deep breath working out how to answer this question. She had been planning the answer in her head the whole way down to the lake but the words just wouldn’t come. Noticing her discomfort Ron reached out to place a comforting hand on hers. The simple gesture was too much for Hermione and tear escaped her eye before she whispered quietly.

“I’m pregnant.”

The trio gasped loudly, their eyes widening with matching looks of horror.

“But Hermione! You can’t be you is…oh my god…”

Ron began to protest but was cut of when the concealment charm was broken and he as well as Harry and Ginny were able to see her pregnant stomach for the first time.

Ron’s face burned a vicious scarlet.

“How? Who? TELL ME!” he screeched at her leaning forward and shaking her by the shoulders but Hermione didn’t answer, her eyes were shut and tears were streaming down her face.

Harry intervened pulling Ron roughly off his friend.

“Calm down Ron…”

Hermione continued once the red-head had calmed down.

“I’m about six months pregnant, twins, I’m so happy; can’t you be happy for me?”

“Of course we can” answered Harry while Ginny nodded energetically elbowing Ron who mumbled a hurried ‘sure’

A few long seconds of silence plased by, none of the four wanted to be the first to speak.

Ginny bit her lip trying to bite back the question that was forming on her tongue but it spilled forward anyway.

“Who is the father?”

Hermione looked down into her lap and clenched her fists tightly, she was dreading this question but she couldn’t lie to her three best friends.

“It’s Malfoy…I’m so sorry!” with that she fled to the castle in floods of tears although she wasn’t quite sure why, she didn’t even see their reactions, getting herself soaked by a gleeful squid as she went who was happy to finally hit a target.
Draco was relaxing in his common room, his feet propped up on the table, deep in thought, when Hermione ran into the room with tears running down her face. Her eyes were red and blotchy and her nose and cheeks were a bright peony pink.

He jumped from his seat and ran over to her enveloping her in a tight embrace.

“Hermione what happened?!?”

“I…I told them.”

Draco’s stomach lurched almost painfully.

“I see.”

Now wasn’t the time to question her, for now he would comfort her, protect her from the world. Keep her safe.

Meanwhile Pansy was still sat in the great hall playing with a plate of cold eggs and bacon, she wasn’t even hungry, she hoped he had received her letter. She wasn’t foolish she knew he wouldn’t reply but still…

Suddenly a large tawny owl flew into the great hall dropping the latest edition of the daily prophet into her plate; she placed two Knuts in its leather pouch and watched it fly away.

Picking up the newspaper she read the headline and grinned manically allowing a gleeful laugh to escape her lips. After all there was no-one else in the hall apart from her so what was the harm? Her plan had worked!

Meanwhile Severus Snape watched, hidden in the shadows, his features knitted in a confused frown as he watched his student run from the hall considerably happier than when she went in. Once she had gone he walked over to where she had been sitting and picked up the abandoned newspaper and read the headline.
