Chapter Fifteen

James smiled as he watched Sirius enter the room. The longhaired man threw down his bag and grabbed a brush. He quickly began tugging the snarls out of his hair.
James winced and got up immediately. He gently pried the brush out of his boyfriend's hand and tenderly combed his lover's beautiful long tresses.
"It feels a thousand times better when you do it," Sirius commented.
"Of course it does," James replied. "At the rate you were going, you would have been bald in ten minutes!"
"Hey!" Sirius cried indignantly, but he was grinning. "What would I do without you, James?"
"I could ask you the same question," James remarked as he placed the brush back down on the table and then pressed several kisses on Sirius' head.
Sirius quirked an eyebrow. "You mean you could ask yourself what ever would you do without you?"
James rolled his eyes. "Merlin, help me! You know exactly what I mean."
Sirius just laughed as he tore off his robe to reveal a pair of old blue jeans and a Led Zeppelin shirt.
"Did you get done what you wanted to in the library?" James asked.
Sirius groaned. "I suppose so. Can't believe I had to be paired up with some bloody Ravenclaw that actually believes in going to the library on a bloody Saturday!"
James nodded his head sympathetically. "Well, perhaps I have something that will cheer you up."
"And what would that be?"
James took Sirius' hand in his own and started walking to the door.
"Where are we going?"
"The lake," James replied.
"Why? James, I'm starving! I haven't eaten since well, since breakfast this morning," Sirius practically whined.
James chuckled and stopped long enough to gently kiss Sirius' warm lips. "We're going to have a picnic by the lake, love. Be patient. I promise you'll get food soon enough."
"A picnic? Really?" Sirius asked as he clung onto James' hand and allowed hiver ver to lead him down the hallway.

After stopping by the kitchens (Sirius was told to wait in the hall while James talked to the house elves), the two made their way out to the lake.
Sirius watched quietly as James transfigured a large rock into a comfortable red blanket. He spread it out on the ground and then sat down.
"Are you going to stand there all day?" James asked.
"Absoly nly not," Sirius replied as he joined James on the blanket. "I'm so hungry!"
James laughed and started pulling food out of what looked like a small picnic basket. Sirius' eyes widened as he watched his boyfriend setting the food out on the blanket.
"Merlin, James, how many people are you feeding?"
"Just you well, and myself."
"Do we really eat that much?" Sirius asked, amused.
James snickered and playfully swatted at his lover. "It's all of your favorites," he explained, motioning to the huge selection. "Of course we won't eat it all, but we can save some for dinner."
"We're not eating in the Great Hall tonight?" Sirius questioned. He grabbed a sandwich and started eating while waiting for James to reply.
James tugged at his hair nervously. "Erm, we'll see. I hope not."
Sirius looked at his boyfriend quizzically while he finished chewing. "What do you mean?"
"You'll find out," James replied mysteriously.
Sirius raised an eyebrow and continued munching on his food.
After several minutes of watching James stare at the lake worriedly, Sirius finally put his food down and moved over closer to his lover. "What's going on?" he asked quietly. "Why aren't you eating? Why are you being so quiet, and well, weird?"
James turned to face Sirius and was startled to see such concern evident in those beautiful blue eyes.
"I guess I'm just a bit nervous about something," James mumbled.
"Obviously," Sirius replied as he tenderly ran his fingers through James' unruly hair. "What are you worried about, love? You know you can tell me anything."
"Are you done eating?"
Sirius cocked his head slightly, causing several strands of raven hair to fall into his face. "For now, I am."
"What?"
"I'm not going to eat anything else or do anything else until you tell me what you're worried about," Sirius explained.
James swallowed and carefully took Sirius' hands in his own. Merlin, Sirius was amazing .especially with those few pieces of hair partially hiding his eyes.
"It's just that I "
"What?" Sirius prompted softly.
"There's something I need to ask you," James said, his hazel eyes staring at Sirius intently. His heart was pounding so loudly, he figured everyone could hear it. What if Sirius said no? What if Sirius wasn't ready for this? What if he didn't want to spend the rest of his life with James?
Meanwhile, Sirius was completely concerned as he studied his gorgeous best friend and lover. What on earth did James want to ask him? Sirius had one idea, but he didn't dare hope after all, would James really want to be with someone like Sirius forever? What if it was the complete opposite? What if James was breaking up with him?
Sirius withdrew one of his hands from James' grasp and pushed away the strands of hair that were partially blocking his vision. He bit his lip and watched his boyfriend.
James grabbed Sirius' hand again and held on tightly. "Sirius, I love you so much."
"And I love you," Sirius whispered. "I don't know what I'd do without you. You mean the world to me."
"I'd be lost without you, too," James replied as he clutched Sirius' hands even tighter than before. "Sirius, I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
James let go of one of his lover's hands and quickly reached into the pocket of his jeans. He pulled out a small, black box. He then regretfully pulled his other hand away from Sirius and carefully opened the box to reveal a beautiful, shiny ring.
"Will you marry me, Sirius?"
Sirius gasped as he stared at the ring and then gazed back at James.
"Yes," Sirius whispered with tears in his eyes. He watched as James gently slid the ring onto his finger.
"Gods, I love you so much," Sirius said as the tears started to stream down on his face.
James leaned forward and gently pressed his lips to Sirius'. Sirius opened his mouth almost immediately, allowing James' tongue to enter. Both wrapped their arms tightly around each other and passionately kissed.
Sirius and James spent the rest of the day talking, cuddling, and kissing. That evening, they did indeed eat dinner together in James' room.
And then, they made love several times before falling asleep in each other's arms.
