In the Eyes of the Enemy- Chapter Fifteen Sanctuary
Dumbledore flew over the countryside nonstop until they had safely reached Hogwarts grounds. It was the wee hours when he safely deposited his precious cargo on the soft snow outside the castle door. As the rug was released from his tightly clinched claw he felt the ripples pass through his body as he transformed back into his human form. The evening had been exhausting for him and as the transformation was complete he collapsed in the snow.
Hermione turned to Harry and said, “Can you walk?”
Harry replied, “I think my arm and a couple of ribs might be broken but I think my legs are all right.”
Hermione grimaced as she said, “I’m sure mine is broken. I heard it snap when Ron’s body fell on me as the rug closed. You’ll need to go get Madame Pomfrey have her bring lots of help.” Harry nodded and made his way through the castle door.
Within minutes an army of students and stretchers were pouring out of the building. Everyone was carefully placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital wing. Members of the group were sporting various broken bones, cuts, and bruises. By the end of the day Madame Pomfrey had managed to fully heal everyone with the exception on Dumbledore and Draco who still remained unconscious. The mediwitch was sure Dumbledore would wake within a day or so, that he was merely exhausted after the events of the previous night.
Draco, she was more concerned about. Hermione had told her about the curse he had sustained and Madame Pomfrey explained that the curse could leave him permanently unconscious or even insane. Tears rolled down Hermione’s cheeks as she realized the last words she spoke to him were full of hate and anger.
Dumbledore did wake the following afternoon as Madame Pomfrey had expected him to, and though he claimed to have a terrible headache he was given a clean bill of health. Hermione remained by Draco’s side day and night hoping against hope that he would wake.
On the third night Hermione’s mother came in the hospital wing and took a seat beside her daughter. She looked at the young man before her and said, “Hermione I’m sorry about what’s happening to him. He’s not his father’s son. Your grandfather showed me in his pensieve what he did for you and the baby.”
Hermione’s eyes widened slightly as she realized her mother knew about the baby and said, “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I just didn’t want to disappoint you. After all you and dad have been through because of Lucius, I just didn’t think you would approve. I love him and I’m so scared he won’t wake up so that I can tell him. I wasted so much time pushing him away, but he never stopped loving me. He doesn’t deserve this.”
Andrea wrapped her arms around her tearful child and said, “Hermione it will be ok. We all have things that need to be put right.”
Hermione looked up at her mother and asked, “What do you mean?”
Andrea smiled and said, “Voldemort is gone the dark marks vanished from his followers arms, which means this time it’s for good. Lucius was given The Dementors Kiss this morning along with a dozen other Death Eaters who managed to flee the house. They were arrested in St Mungo’s where they came for treatment of their burns.
The only ones who haven’t been accounted for are Draco’s mother and Peter Pettegrew. It seems Peter was using polyjuice potion to impersonate Lucius. So he was in the bottle with Narcissa, but no one has been able to find the bottle so far. They took it from Albus, but the last anyone saw it was in the house before it burned. Only Albus can open it so they were trapped.”
Hermione nodded in understanding. It appeared that Draco was the sole survivor of the Malfoy family, but as he lay in his unbreakable sleep even that was in doubt. Hermione looked back to her mother and asked, “What are you and dad going to do now?”
Andrea replied, “Something I should have done a long time ago. I’m going to stop hiding. I need to see my mother. The fact that your having this baby has made me realize just how much I took away from her, by not trusting that she could keep our secret. Hermione I don’t want that to be us. I don’t want you to shut your father and me out of your life because you’re afraid of how we’ll react.”
Hermione wrapped her arms around her mother and sobbed, “Mum, I don’t think I can do this without you too. I have no idea what to do with a baby.”
Andrea smiled and laughed, “Wait till your grandmother finds out. If there’s one thing we Weasley’s know its babies.”
Hermione cleared her tears and asked, “When are you going to tell them?”
Andrea replied, “When you’re ready. I want all of us to be there together. My mother’s going to kill me so I need as many witnesses this time as possible.”
At that moment Albert walked in and placed his hands on his wife’s shoulders, as he said, “No she’s not. Your mother loves you it was always me she blamed for stealing you away. But who could resist, when you’ve got the most brilliant and beautiful witch willing to runaway with you.” The three chuckled until Madame Pomfrey came out of her office and gave them each a stern look.
As Hermione’s parents left the hospital wing, her attention went back to Draco’s resting form. He looked so peaceful as he rested, and Hermione realized just how tired she was. She had taken a few twenty-minute naps during the days, but she hadn’t slept properly since the night before the Yule Ball. That had been nearly a week ago. She desperately needed sleep but she didn’t want to leave Draco incase he woke while she was gone.
She took out a piece of parchment and quill from her bag, and wrote:
Madame Pomfrey,
I promise to bring Draco back first thing in the morning.
Hermione
She checked to see if Madame Pomfrey was watching. The mediwitch was in her office busily brewing potions, so Hermione quietly chanted “Mobilicorpus.” With Draco’s unconscious body floating behind her Hermione snuck out of the hospital wing and dashed for the fifth floor and their rooms. Standing before the Prefects meeting room was Dumbledore.
Hermione’s face turned red as she spotted her grandfather waiting by the door. She quietly asked “Please can’t he stay in our quarters just for tonight? It’s so much more comfortable than the hospital wing and I promise we’ll go back first thing tomorrow.”
Dumbledore raised his hand to stop her from saying anything more. He simply said, “Get some rest my dear. I’ll let Poppy know you’ll be back in the morning.” With that he strolled down the length of the hall, disappearing from sight as he made his way down the stairs.
Hermione gently placed Draco under the warm blanket and removed the spell. Without giving it a second thought she undressed and slipped away for a quick bath. She had halfheartedly expected him to wake up and surprise her in the bathroom, but when she stepped back into the bedroom, he was exactly as she had left him. Not bothering with the formality of dressing she slipped under the covers and pressed her warm body against his.
That night she had the most amazing dream. Draco was with her, not asleep as she knew him to be, but awake and kissing her. He fondled her breasts, which drove her mad as they had become more sensitive with her pregnancy. His fingers then tormented her swollen sex, causing her to moan. He didn’t stop and she didn’t want him to. He moved his kisses down the length of her body and didn’t stop when he reached her lower lips. His tongue darted in and out of her. She moaned “Oh Draco yes.” She couldn’t handle it any longer it was her dream and she wanted the control.
She rolled him over so he was on his back and tore away the hospital pants he was wearing. He was hard as she had expected him to be, but first she wanted him to feel the exquisite torment he had provided her with moments ago. She took him in her mouth and felt him relax beneath her. He moaned her name and overpowered her to regain control.
In command once more he thrust himself inside her. Her hips bucked beneath him eager to meet each stroke of his passion. Her back arched as ripples of pleasure passed through her body. He groaned as he spasmed inside her, finally collapsing beside her.
She ran her fingers though his hair and looked into his soft grey eyes before saying, “I love you Draco and I promise I’ll never push you away again.”
He smiled at her and pulled her close for a kiss before saying, “I love you too Hermione and I always will.” She snuggled against his chest content with the knowledge that at least in her dream she was able to tell him how she felt.
As the sun poured in the open window Hermione felt warm arms around her and gentle kisses along her neck. Draco’s soft voice whispering in her ear, “I think I need some more of my medicine please.”
Hermione’s eyes flew open as she turned to see Draco awake behind her. Her arms flew around him as she covered him in kisses and said “Draco you’re awake. It wasn’t a dream” She blushed at the thought of their love making during the night. “Oh I’m so sorry about everything. I love you so much and we’re having a baby. That is if you still want to be with us. I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t. I’ve been just awful to you.”
Before she could continue he covered her mouth with a kiss then said, “yes you have been very naughty Miss Granger but I love you. I love that you’re having our baby. Someday I want a whole houseful of little girls who look as beautiful as their mother and little boys who have my devilishly handsome good looks.”
Hermione ‘s eyes dropped and she frowned before saying, “Draco I can’t have any other children. It was the baby that saved me from those men in the park, but because of it, I won’t be able to have any other children.”
Draco nodded and asked, “Is that why you kept it?”
Hermione shook her head and said, “partly, but it was mostly because even if we couldn’t be together I would always have a part of you in my life.”
Draco hugged her tightly and kissed her again before saying, “Hermione I love you and I love this baby. Nothing will ever come between us again.“ They laid back down on the bed content in each other embrace.
Madame Pomfrey was amazed to see Draco walking into the hospital wing holding Hermione’s hand.
Hermione smiled and said “See Madame Pomfrey, I’m returning him to your care just as promised.” Madame Pomfrey checked Draco out from top to bottom before declaring him fit to leave.
It was decided that there would be a private dinner in the room of requirement that evening to celebrate the return of everyone in the group to perfect health and to fill in the rest of the Weasley family in on Albert and Andrea’s secret.
The Weasleys were apprehensive about coming to a function held in honor of Draco’s recovery. Dumbledore had insisted that each and every member of the Weasley family attend, Ginny and Ron assured their family members the dinner was just as much for them as it was for Draco.
A grand banquet was set in the room for requirement; as all the remaining members of the Order of the Phoenix, the entire Weasley family, Andrea, Albert, Hermione, Draco, Griselda, Neville and Harry were in attendance. Once everyone was seated, Dumbledore began. “I would like to thank all of your for coming this evening. It has been too long since we were all able to gather and celebrate such a festive occasion. Granted there are a few loose ends which require attending to, however for the most part I can safely say we have seen the end of Voldemort and his minions.” The table erupted in applause.
When the cheers died down Dumbledore continued, “Over the years, we have all made our sacrifices for the cause. Now we can begin to resume our lives as they were meant to be. I would like to reintroduce two people who have given up more than most in the fight against evil.” With a wave of his wand Dumbledore chanted “Finite Incantatum.” He the continued, “My son and daughter-in-law.”
When Mrs. Weasley looked upon the woman beside her she shrieked, “Andrea.” With tears flowing down their cheeks the women hugged. Within moments the entire Weasley family was exchanging hugs and kisses with Andrea and Albert. After everyone shared an embrace they made their way back to their seats but Mrs. Weasley refused to let to of her daughters hand.
Molly cleared the tears from her eyes and asked Dumbledore, “You knew all this time they were alive?”
Dumbledore nodded and said, “I’m sorry Molly that we kept it from you so long, but we thought it was the best way to protect them and Hermione. Lucius would not have allowed them to live. It was by sheer luck they survived his attack. It was also not common knowledge until tonight that Albert was my son, another fact that would have brought peril to their door. I apologize for your family’s grief Molly but I would do it all over again, because in the end, it made it possible for them to be here today.” Mrs. Weasley nodded in understanding yet still refusing to let go of her daughter’s hand.
The rest of the dinner went smoothly. Everyone laughed and shared stories of days gone by. Mr. Weasley was fascinated by the fact that his daughter and son-in-law had lived these many years as muggles and questioned them incessantly about living a magic free life.
Draco had felt uncomfortable thought the evening. Especially during times when his fathers name was mentioned. Unbeknownst to anyone Hermione affectionately squeezed his hand under the table whenever she noticed him becoming tense. Feeling the confident squeeze on his hand he’s relax and smile at the beautiful women beside him.
When the meal ended Mrs. Weasley pulled Hermione to her in a hug and said, “I’m so sorry I was so dreadful to you years ago when that awful Rita Skeeter wrote those articles about you and Harry. You’re my only grandchild and I feel like I barely know you.”
Hermione hugged her grandmother and smiled as she said, “I would really like to get to know you and Mr. Weasley better. I could really use some advice about raising a baby.”
Mrs. Weasley chuckled, “Please call us Molly and Arthur or Nan and Pop, yes that would be better. Though I’m more than happy to answer any questions you have. Why would you need to know about babies my dear?”
Hermione griped Draco’s hand tight and said, “We’re having a baby in June.”
Mrs. Weasley shouted, “A baby, but you’re not married. He’s a Malfoy you couldn’t possibly, not with him.”
Everyone in the room heard Mrs. Weasley shout and turned to look at in their direction. Hermione’s eyes fell and Draco put his arm protectively around Hermione, but before he could speak it was Harry that said, “They love each other Mrs. Weasley and believe it or not from what I’ve seen Draco do for her, I couldn’t imagine anyone I’d rather see her with.”
Andrea looked to her mother and said, “He’s right mother, and I have more reasons than anyone in this room to hate the Malfoy family. Draco’s different and I’m glad they’re together.”
Mrs. Weasley shook her head and pulled Draco and Hermione to her in a hug, “It seems I’m perpetually sticking my foot in it, but if everyone else is happy for the two of you there’s no reason why I shouldn’t be too.”
After answering dozens of questions about their relationship and Hermione’s pregnancy, Hermione and Draco decided to call it a night and made their way back to their rooms. Hermione didn’t wish to sleep alone and Draco had no intention of going to sleep without her. Without a single word being spoken the two headed for Hermione’s room and cuddled up in bed together.
Before drifting oo slo sleep Hermione asked, “So what do we do now about us?”
Draco yawned and said, “We’ll figure it out when the time comes.”
