Closer

Hermione had retreated to her bedroom as soon as Ron had left. She just wanted to lie in her bed and stare at the ceiling. She wanted to think about things while she had a chance. She figured Severus would be back soon as she wouldn't have time to think. She wanted to jump him as soon as he walked in the door.

Ron had looked very surprised when she told him that her and Severus might be getting married. She couldn't blame him. It must have come as a major shock. Their lives had changed so quickly in such a short amount of time.

She couldn't but wonder what the other Weasleys would say when they found out. She didn't even know if they knew. For some reason her jumped to Draco. She wondered what he would think of her relationship with Severus. After all Draco had been Severus' favorite student and godson.

The witch shrugged off the thoughts. Everyone would find out sooner or latter. A person could only hide they were pregnant with twins for so long.

Hermione let out a small cry getting up. She was bored out of her mind without Severus. She thought that she would love living at Hogwarts but sometimes it drove her insane. She was pretty good friends with the teachers but for the most part she had nothing to do.

"I'll go see Flitwick," she said getting up from the bed. "Maybe he'll have something interesting to talk about."

She quickly slipped on a pair of shoes and headed off to find one of her favorite teachers.

Severus had excused himself from Hermione's sight saying that he had an errand to run in London. In truth he was going to see Draco. He hadn't had a chance to see his godson since the war ended and he wanted to talk him.

He knew that after the war Draco had gotten an apartment in London. The young blond hadn't wanted to return to Malfoy manor. Severus couldn't blame him. He seemed to have a lot of bad memories of the place.

Draco had sent him is new address by owl in case the potions master wanted to see him. Severus had stuffed the letter away but remembered the address.

He found the building on high street in London. He knew right away that it was a wizard apartment building. No one that passed the building seemed to know it was there. He let himself in and stood in the entry hall.

After locating apartment 211 on the map of the building he took the elevator to the second floor. When the elevator stopped he walked down the hallway and found the right door.

He couldn't help but wonder how Draco would react to the news. Draco and Hermione had never gotten along in school.

Severus shook his head to clear the thought as he knocked on the door. Draco was a good guy. He was a war hero. The past was behind him.

"Who is it?" Draco's voice came.

"Severus," he said.

The door quickly opened to reveal a very happy looking Draco.

"Severus!" he said. "It's been a while. Come on in."

Severus walked inside and closed the door behind him. His eyes darted around the apartment. He could tell it was owned by a well to do wizard. There were a lot of object that looked like they were made of gold and expensive furs covered the room.

"You want a drink?" Draco asked opening a liquor cabinet.

The older wizard quickly shook his head. He hadn't had a drink since the night of his one night night stand with Hermione.

"No," he said. "I'll take something soft."

Draco nodded and got himself a wine cooler. He went into the kitchen and came back with a glass of pumpkin juice. He handed it to Severus and they both sat down on the couch. He popped open his wine cooler and took a sip.

"It's great to see you again," Draco said. "Anything exciting happen since I last saw you? My life has been pretty dull. I could use some exciting news."

"I got two kids on the way and I might be getting married," Severus explained. "I'd call that exciting."

Draco's eyes opened wide in surprise and he nearly chocked on his beer.

"What?" he asked once he got hold of himself. "Who is the woman? When did it happen?"

"I got a little drunk at the victory party," Severus explained. "I ended up taking Hermione back to my room."

"Hermione?" Draco asked in a shocked voice. "That is nuts. I always thought she liked Ron."

"She did," he said. "She was with him when she found out she was carrying my children. We really love each other very much. She is working and living at Hogwarts now. I'm really thinking about asking her to marry me."

Draco looked thoughtful for a second. He jumped up from the couch and went into a different room. Severus sat on the couch in confusion. The blond returned a few minutes later holding a small box.

"I want you to have something," he said sitting down on the couch. "My mother gave this to me. It was her engagement ring. She gave it to me so I'd have a ring to give a girl someday but I'd rather buy my own."

Severus took the box and opened it. Inside was a silver ring. It had two diamonds on the far ends and a silver snake sat in between the two jewels.

"You don't have to give me this," He said looking up at Draco. "You're mother gave you this."

"It's not a big deal," Draco said. "You've done a lot for me. It's the least I can do."

Severus didn't know if she would like it since it had a snake on it but he didn't see any harm in giving it to her.

"Thank you," he said closing the box.

"When are you going to ask her?" Draco asked.

"I don't know," Severus said looking down at his drink. "I'm not the romantic type so I won't wait for the perfect moment. I'll proubly just take her for a walk along the lake at sunset and just ask her."

"Sounds to me like you have it planned out pretty good," the blond said.

"I guess I do," he said sighing. "Well I hate to cut this meeting short but I have to do. I promised Hermione I wouldn't be too long."

"That's OK," Draco said nodding. "I'll come by Hogwarts when I get a chance and see you guys. You'll owl me when you set the date for the wedding?"

"Of course," Severus said standing up. "Thanks again for the ring."

Draco just gave him a little smile before his godfather walked out of his apartment.
