Day of the Dance
Lily woke up at seven, completely entangled with James. He stirred slightly under her with a groggy groan, before opening his eyes. “Hey love,” James mumbled before yawning.
“Morning,” Lily said becoming self conscious. Slowly, she pulled the blankets up to cover her breasts, a flush rising to her cheeks. The fire had died during the night, and it was particularly cold now.
He reached around on the floor, finding his glasses and pushing them on his face. James could see the embarrassment on her face. “There is no need to be embarrassed love,” he replied kissing her forehead rubbing her back gently.
She cuddled closer to him, trying to warm up, she was shaking a bit of the cold. Still she kept her chest covered, holding onto him. They would have to get up soon for breakfast then classes, and Lily wanted to show ere before hand.
James held her close, rubbing her back to warm her up. He looked at the clock over the mantel, it was 7:15, and he needed to shower before classes because he would not have time later before the dance. “We should get going love,” he said sadly looking at her.
Lily nodded in agreement, moving to sit up waiting for him to get up first since he was on the outside.
James rolled off of the couch, and reached his hand out to hers, turning his head as he yawn slightly into his arm.
Clutching the blanket close with one hand, she grabbed her free one with the other. She would come back for her bra and shirt once she was out of the shower. “I’ll meet you back here in...let’s say twenty minutes?” Lily asked him with a smile.
“Sounds good to me,” James said stretching before leaning down to kiss her lightly.
Lily walked up the small amount of steps to her room, dropping the blanket on the bathroom floor, and slipped out of her skirt and knickers. She took a quick hot shower, and was done within ten minutes, the beauty of magic, you did not have to manually shave your legs, and never missed a spot.
Cursing being a girl, Lily put on her school skirt, a long sleeve shirt, and a sweater over that. Winters were always the worst in the castle, the drafts were horrible. She dried her hair, used her wand to apply make up and walked out the door.
James watched her leave before bounding up the steps to his room to get ready. He was done before her, and picked up the common room, grabbing her clothes. He listened outside her door to make sure she was in the shower, and then opened it throwing her clothes onto her bed then slipped back out again.
He was sitting on the couch when she emerged from her room, school bag thrown over her shoulder, and her hair down. Without even trying she was beautiful to him.
“Breakfast?” Lily asked as she neared him. She noticed that he had picked up the place, and when she changed she saw her bra and shirt were sitting on the bed.
James grabbed her hand instinctively, and they both walked out of the common room. The main common room was a buzz with students, more chittery then normal, since today was the big dance.
“Hey Prongs,” Sirius said catching up with the two of them. Remus and Peter were not far behind, they had heard what Sirius had seen the night before and they were smirking.
James’ eyes widened a bit, he suddenly remembered that Sirius was supposed to come see him last night, and he had no doubt that he had walked into the room. He just hoped he would not be loud about it in front of Lily.
“Hey guys,” James said as they had caught up with them. He could tell instantly that they all knew something happened last night. Their smirks gave it away, and he hoped Lily could not tell.
Lily just smiled at the boys when they caught up as they all headed down to the Great Hall. Once inside, the decorations were already starting to go up. Floating pumpkins replaced the normal candles, and hanging decorations were up. Halloween had always been her favorite holiday as a child.
They all sat together, Lily on one side of James, Sirius on the other, Remus and Peter across from them. James felt Sirius jab him, and Remus kick his shin. He did his best not to look bothered but it did not work.
Lily noticed James jump, and saw the smirks on his friends faces, “what’s so funny?” She asked as she grabbed some pancakes off a plate in the center.
“Nothing,” Sirius said innocently grabbing some bacon. He was going to have to talk to James during Charms. Lily would be there, but she was partners with another girl so it would be the opportune time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The small group left breakfast for the first class of the day, Charms. Lily kissed James light before heading to the other side of the room with her partner. Quickly, they were deep in conversation about the dance that night, and who was going with who, the normal girl chatter.
Sirius grabbed James, and pulled him off to the side. All four of them were at a bench table since Remus and Peter were partners.
“So, what happened last night? I came in to talk with you and saw you and Lily pretty close under the blankets,” Sirius said raising an eyebrow as he pulled out his charms book.
Remus and Peter were already ready, and they leaned around Sirius to look at James as he talked.
“Nothing,” James said trying to turn away a bit. Normally he would tell Sirius everything, but he wanted to keep this to himself, his own personal secret, but he knew Sirius would beat it out of him.
“Sure didn’t look like nothing from what I heard,” Peter piped in laughing a bit.
“We just fooled around,” James said looking intently at his book, trying to ignore the three pairs of eyes staring at him. Sighing he looked up at them, “first of all, we did not have sex.”
Sirius laughed, “so what DID you do?” He asked nudging him with his shoulder.
“Everything from the waist up that you can do,” James mumbled before looking up at them. He had done it before, and told Sirius all about it, but this time it was different, he did not want everyone to know what him and Lily did.
“It’s about time she came around and fessed up,” Remus mumbled looking at his book. So he knew a bit more then the rest of the group did.
“What do you mean?” James asked suddenly curious. Flitwick had emerged from his office, and proceeded to start class. Not many people listened to him though, it being only his third year teaching, and plus he was so small, it was hard to take him seriously.
Remus did not answer, pretending to pay attention to what Flitwick was writing on the board.
“Moony!” James hissed throwing a balled up piece of parchment at his head. “What do you mean?”
“Is there are problem Mr. Potter?” He heard a squeaky voice ask him. The class fell silence and James felt all eyes on him. Sirius picked up his book pretending to read something, but he was shaking with laughter.
“No sir, just giving Remus some parchment since he forgot his own,” James said quickly with smirk.
The class snickered and he saw Lily giggling a bit with her friend. That was a change, normally she just turned her head and pretended he did not exist.
Remus finally gave in when Flitwick turned around, “I have just heard from a few people she used to talk about you all time, and not always in criticism,” he whispered before attempting a charm. He was definitely the gifted one of the group, Remus got the charm after about five tries.
James gave a goofy grin, and out of his confidence was able to get the charm to work in one shot, which never happened. Lily still had not been able to master it, and she was known for being amazing at charms.
The rest of class passed without incident, as well as the day. Though it seemed to drag, he was only able to see Lily before he went to potions and she went to defense against the dark arts.
Finally three came, classes had ended early for the day, due to the dance, which everyone was grateful for. The dance was to begin at five pm, and end at eleven.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lily had run up to her room, James said he would meet her at four forty five, he needed to go see Pomfrey, and then to the marauders dormitory.
It took her a little while to get the top on, it was a red and black corset, that laced in the back. Her friends had stopped by to tie her up and chit chat before they left to get ready. The black silk laces in the front were just for decoration. She had to make an altercation to it though, because the laces in the front went down to her belly button, and showed skin, so she fitted red cloth behind it.
Her chest was pushed up a bit, and it was a bit more risque then she remembered but she liked it. The sleeves were long and flowy, made of black silk as well. The skirt was made of crushed black velvet that was a bit on the short side, so she would have to watch it.
Next she worked on her hair. She had curled it, flattening out any frizz, and opted to leave it down, her red hair worked perfectly with the look she was going for.
Her makeup consisted of heavy eyeliner and mascara, and blood red lipstick, her face was already pale enough.
It was four thirty already, so she pulled on her fishnets that her friends insisted she buy, and heels that were very high, another thing with magic, she would be able to stand on them all night without pain.
The last touches were her choker necklace, and her fangs. She found them at a wizarding muggle shop, and the stuck to your teeth, blending in to look real, and they were much less bulky.
She checked herself over one more time in the mirror. Lily was nervous about how she looked, even if it was Halloween it did not look like her at all. With a deep breath she left her room, and waited for James to arrive.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
James had gone to Pomfrey for his daily medicine, then up to the marauders room. His costume was there already, since it was the same every year.
“Ready for the dance?” James asked bursting into the room. Remus was busy changing into a pin striped suit and adjusting his tie. They had just learned in muggle studies about ‘gangsters’ and Remus decided to go like that.
“Looking sharp,” James said nodding over to him. He had slicked his hair back, and was adjusting his hat.
Peter was working on the many layers of his costume. He had opted toward a pirate this year, personally James thought he should of gone as a mummy, but that wasn’t his choice.
Sirius had pulled on his black slacks, as well as his shoes, and was working on his dark purple button down shirt. His costume was black and purple, compared to James whose was black and red. The other difference was James had a top hat, and as they had dubbed, Sirius had a pimp cane.
“Lily and I are going to match on accident,” James said as he pulled up his black slacks. They had become a bit big on him, but it wasn’t too drastic. He put on his white button down, long sleeved shirt, tucking it into his pants before adjusting the belt. His vest was a deep red, that matched the lining of his cape.
Now for the part he hated, the fangs. It always took him a few minutes to get used to the feeling, and to talk with them. He helped Sirius whiten out his face, and Sirius returned the favor.
“Well I am off to get my date,” James said with a smirk, as he wrapped the cape around him, tying it by his neck, then smartly added his top hat.
Remus was assisting Peter who had managed to become tangled in his shirt and the straps to hold his pants up.
“See you down there,” Peter said before yelping and slapping Remus.
“Well if you would just hold still,” Remus quipped avoiding another smack.
“Morning,” Lily said becoming self conscious. Slowly, she pulled the blankets up to cover her breasts, a flush rising to her cheeks. The fire had died during the night, and it was particularly cold now.
