Apologies, only one update, and a short past chapter at that. Thank you to my wonderful reviewers - you rock! SP
Lentesco – Chapter Fourteen
Severus found himself beginning to resent the time he spent with Lucius. The blond was making use of him more and more, meaning Severus had hardly any time to spend with Aidan outside lessons. Luckily for all concerned, the American was taking the same subjects as Snape, and always elected to sit beside the black haired boy. Still, outside lessons, Severus was doing well to catch ten minutes with Aidan.
Aidan had already been at the school two weeks, and had settled in. He had even found his way round incredibly quickly, soon spotting which were the trick stairs, and the false doors. Aidan had had a run in with Black and his gang quite early on, and the experience had left a sour taste in his mouth…
“Well, Snivelly, got a new friend?” Black sneered.
Potter looked the newcomer up and down. “Hi,” he said welcomingly, then, “I really don’t understand why you chose to stay with the Slytherins, unless you wanted experience of how snakes crawled about.” His eyes were fixed upon the American, who looked hurt, far more so than the words should have hurt.
“You’re too soft for the Slytherins.” Black said, seeing the tears welling in the eyes, “They’ll eat you up. Has Snivellus introduced you to his master yet? I bet Lucius would just love to get his hands on you.”
Aidan glared. “How can you be so horrible?!” He cried. “Why do you hate Severus? Why? What did he ever do to you that you had to keep punishing him for?”
Black threw back his head and roared with laughter. “My god! He’s mental!” He addressed Snape, “Ok, Snivs, what potion did you dose him with? No way does he like you unless you’ve forced him too.”
“Sirius,” Aidan snarled, “you’re an idiot. You never could let things go! God, you’re such a jerk right now!”
Black looked taken aback. “Have we met?”
Aidan looked stunned, and then scared. “No, I just can see what you’re like already. You’ll never let things go; even when you grow up I bet you’re still vile to Snape.”
“I never want to see the greasy git again after I leave here!” Sirius snapped back, anger rising. “He’s an evil, pathetic loser!”
Suddenly, two wands were pointed at Sirius’ throat.
James and Peter backed Sirius up, their own wands now stabbing at the two united boys. Lupin had conveniently wandered away.
“Try it,” Aidan growled, “go on, just try it.”
Sirius lifted his wand and leaned close to Severus. “I hope he’s worth it, Snivelly, cos when he’s not around anymore, we’ll have this discussion again.”
He backed away, eyes fixed coldly on Severus’.
…Since that encounter, Aidan had seemed depressed and liable to going off into corners and brood. Severus had tried to ask what was wrong, but Slytherins really weren’t good at that sort of thing.
Lucius appeared in the room and crooked one elegant finger at Severus. Biting down his annoyance, Snape rose and went up to the boy’s room. He didn’t realise that a pair of brown eyes followed his every move, and caught his every gesture.
