The Way of the Werewolf
A/N: Sorry for the long wait again. A kid at my school died and I've had some issues getting over it. It didn't help my little Albus got attacked by a werewolf and this chapter involved angsty issues lol.
Chapter 14: The Way of the Werewolf
Two weeks had past by within a few blinks pulling the cooling October into November. Albus was still stuck in the hospital wing being watched to make sure the wound in his neck healed. He let out a sigh and watched the snow fall past his window.
Scorpius had been there every chance he got until Leon mentioned the need for getting the potion done. Albus blinked when his eyes snapped over to watch some movement he wouldn’t have normally noticed. He heaved another sigh and sat back down on his bed.
“Werewolf…” He muttered as he looked down at his hands, “Is this a good thing or is it a bad thing?” he found himself comparing; sure his sight was better but was it worth being excluded? He groaned and laid back on the bed glad of the fact that nothing was really silver in the school but white gold instead.
“Sickle for your thoughts?”
Albus looked up to face pale skin and silver eyes. He smiled, “Thinking about werewolfism.”
“You and your super werewolf powers” Scorpius said with a chuckle.
Albus just shook his head and smiled, “I’m thinking of asking Teddy or Uncle Bill to come and train me.”
“Well, how about both since neither is full werewolf? Oh! I asked Father to send some books from the family library and I finally got them!” Scorpius gave a sheepish grin as he pulled out a few thick, leather bound books, “They’re on werewolves and they have a ton of information about them. It goes way beyond how to identify, avoid, and defend yourself from them.”
“So you could, if so inclined to, slap the title ‘A werewolf’s guide to lycanthropy’ on it?” Albus asked before chuckling and blinking up at the silvery blonde boy, “How much have you read already?”
Scorpius flushed and grinned sheepishly once more, “Just enough to know that the more people around with some sort of werewolf in them the more comfortable and calm you’ll be.”
“Really now?” Albus asked, now interested, “Is that why you want both Bill and Teddy to be here?”
Scorpius nodded, “The book says the smallest amount to still be safe around is three. It also says dog and wolf animagi will help too. So I was thinking…”
“Not yet, little scorpion.” Albus waved his hand slightly, “We can save that for next year. I can ask Dad or, if we do it, Snape how to do it then. You and Leon both can hang with me then.”
Scorpius looked at the ground, “I was actually wanting to know if, during the next full moon, you’d turn me?”
Albus sat up a little straighter, “What?!”
Scorpius seemed to find something very interesting to do with his shoes, “Well….you and I have….you know….gotten closer…and I….well….I want it to continue like that.”
Albus blushed slightly, “But…being a werewolf….almost everything to do with the Malfoy family is silver.” He chuckled.
“I’m not like the rest of my family.” Scorpius said looking up to catch Albus’s eyes with his own, “And I want to prove that to the world.”
Albus blinked, “Really?” he was rewarded with a nod by the silver-blonde boy causing Albus’s eyes to water slightly before he tackled his boyfriend in a wolfish hug.

“You’ve got to calm down in order to do this, Al.” Teddy said impatiently as he once again turned into himself from the furry wolf he had been, “The wolf form is the most common thing werewolves use. It keeps them from feeling as much pain when they turn during the full moon.”
“But we’ve been doing this for hours and I’m tired and hungry….” Albus whined leaning back against a tree, “And it’s really cold in the forest…”
“You shouldn’t be cold you’re a werewolf.” Teddy said crossing his arms as his hair turned from bright blue to a shaggy black, “Body heat runs higher in werewolves.”
Bill walked over running one of his hands through his own long red hair, “Calm down Teddy. Technically, Albus is still a pup and winter really affects pups.”
Teddy sighed, “Fine let’s go inside for some hot chocolate but as soon as you’re warm we’re going to start again.”
As the now black haired teen went back towards the castle Bill hung back to talk to his nephew, “Don’t worry about him ok, Al?” he ruffled Albus’s hair, “He’s just in a funk since he has to teach you and not spend time with my daughter.”
Albus laughed but the sound was sort of shaky since the boy was so tired, “He’s pushing really hard…” Albus looked up as they cleared the trees and watched the windows to see if he could spot Scorpius, “And I’m just lucky Scorpius is helping me with my homework or I’d never get it done…”
Bill chuckled, “You’re on a time limit now Albus. If we don’t get you prepared in the next three weeks you could completely lose it on the full moon. That and just the way winter is affecting you might cause some major issues. I don’t turn into a werewolf the way you and Teddy do but…I can be around you and not get hurt due to just that subtle change in my scent that Grayback caused when he bit me.”
Albus shivered at Grayback’s name, “Why is he linked to everyone? I mean he turned Teddy’s dad, he bit you, and now he turned me too!”
Teddy glanced back, “Because for a werewolf, he knows where he stands.” The boy had turned his hair back to the bright blue it normally was, “He’s been that way for a long while. He embraces the werewolf part of him more than anything else and stopped trying to be human or even a wizard a long time ago.”
Bill blinked and glanced over at Teddy, “How do you know this? You’ve never actually met Grayback. Have you?”
Teddy shook his head, “No, I went though dad’s journal.” His eyes seemed to soften as he thought back on his father, “I never knew either of them but the Journal helped me understand. Dad did quite a few passages on him one of them describing what he knew of Grayback.”
Albus looked up at Teddy as he got closer and wrapped one arm around the elder teen’s waist in an awkward hug, “What all did it say?”
Teddy looked up at the sky which, even in the cold of November, matched his hair, “Well it explained that Dad had stayed with Grayback for a few years but they never exactly meshed very well. Dad just wanted to read and learn and wanted nothing to do with blood or hunting or hating wizards. Finally Grayback ditched him and Dumbledore found Dad.” Teddy paused for a moment as a group of sixth years passed them with giggles and points at Teddy, “But since Dad had been a learner he had asked a ton of questions. He found out Grayback never finished school, he’d been turned in his fourth year and the headmaster wouldn’t let him come back as a ‘beast’, and after being shunned enough times Grayback just went to live with some wolves.
“Nobody really knows how old Grayback is. I bet if you looked him up in the Hogwarts books you could find him, that is, if you knew his real last name. So things just kept seeping into the wolf until he gave up on wizard kind and decided to shun them like they did him. He grew to liking the taste of human blood and started taking young muggles and wizards on full moons, turning them and raising them with his beliefs, so that when they were old enough they’d be like him. Of course there was a few that didn’t go right along with it, like Dad, but Grayback just weeded them out.
“When the war was going on they sent Dad to go to the werewolves and try and get them on the light side but most of them had Grayback’s beliefs by then. They figured that if the wizarding world was just going to turn them away until they needed help that they weren’t going to. They turned to Voldemort who offered them prey weeding out muggle born children young and turning them to werewolves to make a larger army. It gave both Grayback and Voldemort an advantage so they both took it. With Voldemort gone Grayback has continued doing what Voldemort asked him to do but now it’s just for the sake of making the werewolf population larger. He plans on taking us out eventually and by us I mean the wizarding world.” Teddy finished with his hands in his pockets looking back at the forest his eyes the same shade of green as the leaves, “It makes sense really…”
Bill and Albus exchanged glances. Albus thought it made sense too but he wouldn’t say that out loud. Grayback scared the crap out of him but was that just a natural reaction to an Alpha? He groaned as his head started to ache and beat the other two inside and had downed two hot chocolates and some soup by the time they made it in. Bill looked worried and Teddy looked annoyed once more but Albus didn’t say anything about it, they never really got along anyway.

By the time night had fallen Albus had finally mastered turning into a wolf. He’d looked at himself in the lake and seen a shaggy black wolf staring back at him with greenish gold eyes. The image was bugging him now as he turned in the bed that belonged to him in Slytherin dorm. Grayback was a monster who worked for the dark side but was he? Was he just a wolf with more common sense then over half the human and wizard race? Albus’s brain was spinning and he groaned a little before getting out of bed and into Scorpius’s.
“Scorpius are you awake?” he whispered as his sharper nose took in the clean scent of the blonde and he snuggled closer.
“Yeah what’s wrong?” Scorpius opened his silver eyes and smiled at the shorter boy.
“I can’t sleep. I keep thinking about this curse.”
“Don’t think of it as a curse then.” Scorpius smiled sleepily, “Think of it was you’re opportunity to stand out.”
Albus nodded and cuddled under the blankets finally settling his mind, “Thanks.”
A/N: OK END of chapter but I really need reviews to keep me going! the less reviews the longer the wait! If its still great tell me! If its starting to go down hill give me tips!
