Chapter 14: A run in with Hagrid

Chapter 14: A run in with Hagrid

“Pete and Wallow, Harper and Jennings, Adams and Fowly, Granger and Malfoy. With your assigned partner look up, copy down, discuss, and analyze the following sets of lyrics:

1.) Penny wise: Fuck Authority
2.) Fefe Dobson: Rainbow
3.) Slipknot: The Opium of the People

You will be responsible for handing these in at the beginning of our next lesson.” Professor Miramar instructed at the end of her Muggle Studies class. Hermione scribbled down the instructions and began to pack her bag. Draco stuffed his parchment and quill into his bag catching her eye and giving her a discrete wink. Blushing, she looked down. They were getting careless and people were beginning to notice, especially Harry and Ron.
Shuffling out of the tiny class room, she and Malfoy headed for their Aritmancy class. It was already the beginning of February and she was really beginning to stress about N.E.W.T.s. Her days consisted of pouring over numerous books in the library with Draco a few seats away doing the same. Harry and Ron didn’t seem to care as much, but joined her on occasion forcing Draco to sit in a different section of the library completely. After dinner, she and Draco would practice curses and hexes on each other, preparing for their battle against the Dark Lord. Together, they had formulated a plan to bring him to destruction.
Passing a broom closet, she felt herself being pushed in.
“Malfoy, we’re going to be late!” She said pushing him away.
“Just for a little bit. I haven’t kissed you since we left the common room.” He replied as he took her chin in his hand. Smiling, she leant up to kiss his soft lips touching her tongue to his.
“Okay, now we really have to go. We only have five minutes to get to the other side of the castle.”
“Alright, alright.” He said reluctantly letting her go. Poking her head out of the closet to make sure the coast was clear, they exited the tiny room. Breaking in to a run, they sprinted through the corridors as they tried to reach their destination. Looking down to check her watch, she panted as she pelted down the hall. “Watch out!” She heard him yell.
“Wha?” Bam! She ran smack into something bouncing off as she landed on her rear. Hagrid had come around the corner and she hadn’t noticed because she was trying to see the tiny numbers on her watch. Malfoy was laughing. She shot him a glare and he stopped at once.
“’Ermione! Why are you running? Is this brute messing with you?”
“Umm… no Hagrid. We’re really late for Aritmancy class. Sorry I can’t stay to talk. I’ll visit you tomorrow okay?”
“Sure thing, ‘Ermione. Fang misses ya.” He replied, his beard twitching signaling a smile.
“Let’s go Granger.” Draco said with an impatient voice as Hagrid shot him a glare. Rubbing her butt, they began to run again. “Want me to rub that for you?” He said with a boyish grin.
“Oh stuff it you little ferret.” She snapped as they rounded the corner to their class. “Well I’m your little ferret.” He laughed as he pulled the door open for her. Trying to catch their breath they entered quietly and headed for the front of the room. Slipping unnoticed into their seats, they took out their quills and parchment and hurriedly wrote down their lecture’s instructions.

Putting a mug the size of a bucket in front of her Hagrid sat down on the opposite side of the table and stared intently at her. She pet Fang’s large head that was currently resting heavily on her knee. There was a faint smell of fire whiskey in the small hut. Hagrid had been drinking recently.
“’Ermione is everything alright?”
“Yeah, why do you ask?” She picked up the mug with both hands and sipped at the scalding tea. Hagrid continued to watch at her not bothering to blink as if he’d miss something if he did. “Hagrid? Are you alright?” She asked. He was beginning to make her nervous.
“Yes, yes, of course. Harry and Ron have been down here recently. They’re worried about you ‘Ermione, what, with you living with that Malfoy boy. Rotten egg, that one.”
“Oh, he’s not so bad, Hagrid. Really, everything is okay.” She replied with ease. His eyes narrowed.
“I have known you since you were eleven ‘Ermione Granger and never once have I ever heard anything good come out of your mouth about Malfoy. Did he put a curse on you?”
“No! He wouldn’t do that right under Dumbledore’s nose. He’s not that stupid.” She said nervously.
“There is definitely something different about you. You’ve been very happy lately.” He sat quietly deep in thought. “Are you…are you in love?” He asked questioningly. She didn’t know what to say. “Are you in love with Draco Malfoy?” He continued as he drifted off deep in his thought process. Hermione could feel her face grow warm. “Yes… I did see you at the Yule ball. The way that he held you… the way you looked up at him…” he rambled, still engrossed in his own thoughts.
“Umm… Hagrid, I just forgot I had some homework to finish.” She said trying to escape. Snapping out of his daze he looked at her as she quickly stood making Fang protest.
“Oh no you don’t missy. You sit back down.” He said firmly. Shocked, she plopped back down on the wooden chair. “You are in love with him aren’t you? You didn’t deny it. He did put a curse on you!”
“No! He put no curse on me Hagrid!” She exclaimed as her face reddened.
“Love is a curse enough.” He said angrily.
“Only when your heart is broken, and mine is not.”
“But it is still a curse!”
“It saved Harry.” Hagrid was quiet, not knowing what to say. “You are a clever little witch, ‘Ermione.” He finally said with a small smile his ire ebbing away.
“I take it from your outlook on love that you and Madam Maxim are not seeing each other anymore?”
“No, we split up last week.”
“I’m sorry Hagrid.” He didn’t say anything. That explains the smell of alcohol she thought to herself.
“Does he love you back?” He finally said after a long silence.
“Yes, Hagrid, and the feeling is mutual. Isn’t it obvious? He doesn’t wreak havoc in your classes anymore.” She said quietly.
“I was wondering about that.” He replied gruffly. “Does anyone else know?”
“Only Ginny. She figured it out right after the ball. Oh Hagrid! Please don’t tell Harry and Ron! They’ll try to kill him and I couldn’t bear that.” She said, emotion tightening her throat.
“It is not my place to tell them ‘Ermione. You’re secret is safe with me, but you do need to tell them.”
“I know. But I don’t know how to. You know how they get when it comes to him.”
“Well they both are in love themselves, are they not?”
“Yes, I suppose, but they’re so damn protective.” She yelled forgetting who she was talking to. “Sorry Hagrid.” She said sheepishly. He ignored her use of vulgar language and continued counseling her.
“They can’t be hypocritical if they are in love themselves. They will be mad, mind you, but they should be able to understand. I do believe that Ron is actually infatuated with a Slytherin himself. Bailey something or other.” He mumbled.
“What! When did this happen!”
“Oh… I shouldn’t have said that.” He said, guilt written all over his face. “Look at the time. You really should get that homework done.” Trying to usher her out of his hut with his large hands he guided her to the door.
“What do you mean Ron is seeing a Slytherin Hagrid?!”
“You didn’t hear that from me.” She gave him a glare and crossed her arms over her chest. “Alright, he’s been seeing her since the Yule Ball.” Grinning, she gave him a hug and rushed out the door. The sun had set hours ago. Running up the stone steps towards the castle she smiled to herself. Maybe telling Harry and Ron won’t be as hard as I thought she said to herself.
“Granger.” Her head snapped around. “What are you doing out so late on a Saturday night?” the voice demanded. It was so dark she could not see.
“Oh stuff it you little ferret. What are you doing out so late on a Saturday night?” Draco stepped out of the shadows. “Do you think you can scare me? I could recognize your voice anywhere.” He smiled.
“I was running the team. They’re such slugs.” He said. Walking towards her with his hands in the pockets of his running pants he leaned down and kissed her.
“Malfoy! What if someone sees! Eww and you’re all sweaty.” Grinning, threw his arms around her. “EWWWWW! GET OFF OF ME YOU STINKY BABOON!” She screamed. “Yuck.” She grumbled as he doubled over in laughter.
“What? I thought you loved every aspect of me?” He asked gasping for air as they headed towards the castle.
“I do, just not your sweat.”
“So you never answered my original question. Why are you out here all by yourself?”
“I was talking to Hagrid.” She paused. “He knows.”
“What do you mean he knows. About us?” He asked as they reached their portrait hole. She nodded. Walking in, they waited for the door to shut behind them. “You told him?” He said incredulously.
“He figured it out. Ginny did too.”
“How? We’ve been really good.”
“The Ball. They saw us dancing and figured it out.”
“But we had to dance.”
“Not like that we didn’t. Anyone who knows how we were in the past would know that we would not hold each other that close on our own free will.”
“Come talk to me while I shower.” He said. Entering the bathroom she watched him as he turned on the water. She watched as he peeled off his shirt exposing his muscular chest. She couldn’t help but feel the tingles in her abdomen. Walking over to him she turned him towards her. Taking his face in her hands she gave him a long, sultry kiss. “I thought you didn’t like my sweat?” He said.
“I just thought that you needed a little something to think about in the shower.” She replied as she cocked her head and raised a curved brow.
“You little witch.”
“Thank you.” She said with a smile. Grumbling, he grabbed her and pulled her body towards him. Planting his lips on hers the seduced her lips until she let out a pleasurable moan. Parting, he stepped into the shower.
“So what are we going to do then, about the Oaf and the Weasel.”
“Don’t call them that! They’re my friends. Well they both promised not to tell, but Hagrid slips up a bit sometimes. Its not like he means to, but he just does.”
“What and Oaf.”
“Malfoy!”
“Sorry.”
“I need to tell Harry and Ron.”
“Why!” He yelled as his shampoo covered head popped over the partition. “Are you trying to get me killed?”
“Draco Malfoy? Afraid of Harry Potter? Well I never…?” She said with a small smile. Rolling his eyes, he disappeared to rinse out his hair. “They need to know Malfoy. I can tell that they’re already getting suspicious. I don’t think they’ll take it too badly though. Ron is dating a Slytherin.”
“What?! Are you kidding me? What Slytherin would want him?”
“Hey! Be nice. He’s a really nice guy.”
“And poor.”
“Well, when two people love each other, petty things like that don’t matter. You are a good example of that Malfoy.” The water shut off.
“Hand me a towel.” He said as he stuck his hand over the wall.
“And if I don’t?”
“I’m just trying to spare your eyes.” Swinging his hand around waiting for a towel he finally gave up. “It’s all you then.” He said as he opened the door stepping out revealing himself in his full glory. Squealing, she grabbed all the towels from the racks and ran from the room. “GRANGER!” He yelled as he ran after her. Tackling her to the floor of the common room, she threw the towels over her head as far away from them as she could. Watching his cover soar away from him and land scattered around the room he looked back down at the little vixen.
“Why you little…” he growled as he ran to pick up the nearest towel, her eyes never leaving his body.
“I love you more than a hundred butter beers.” She laughed out as she dashed to her room.
“And I love you more than a hundred chocolate frogs.” He responded as he followed her into her room. Pressing her to the bed, he looked down at her beautiful face. “Read to me tonight?”
“Anything for you, my love.”
