Draco's End

Severus ran forward, flinging a hex towards a hulking figure who had just lumbered out of the door. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the Auror to his right struck by a wave of light and collapse. Potter was to his left, hair all dishevelled as he threw curses towards the manor. Severus could see only four on the manor’s porch, but he knew there would be more inside, and if Lucius was using the same tactics he had when he was a Death Eater, the four on the porch would be mere cannon fodder.

He became certain of that when, on reaching the porch, he noticed that they were Crabbe Sr and Jr and Goyle Sr and Jr. He threw his back against the wall at the side of the door, gasping for breath. Merlin, he was getting too old for this. The Auror on the other side of the door pulled it open and plunged in, only to be thrown back in a wave of green light. Foolish boy, Severus thought as he muttered an incantation making the door melt in front of him.

Bellatrix Lestrange lunged at him, all nails and teeth. He stepped quickly to one side, letting her fall past him to land with a thump on the porch. Silly woman, she was always to aggressive, she’d lose her head in a fight, enjoy it too much. He pointed his wand at her and muttered “Petrificus Totalus” followed by a spell of his own design that wrapped iron bands around it’s victims for good measure. Pulling the inert Bellatrix up he snarled at her,

“The dementors will be happy to see you, Bellatrix.” He threw her backwards to let her tumble down the porch steps into the custody of one of Potter’s Aurors.

Lucius left his friends doing what they did best and went downstairs to the makeshift dungeon. His prisoner just hung there, sobbing. He put one hand under her chin and jerked her head up hard. His icy gaze bored into hers. The room filled with his cold, hard laugh.

“He’s coming for you Mudblood, and I’m going to kill him. I hope you’re worth it!” he spat. He dropped Hermione’s head. She shifted uncomfortably in her bonds as he grinned, relishing the thought of killing the man who had betrayed him and his master, who had pretended loyalty to the Dark Lord and then helped Potter to kill him. He drew his hand back and struck the broken form in front of him. She just huddled there, giving him no sign that he had hurt her. Anger started to creep over him as he hit her again and again, trying to get some sort of rise from her. He threw his fists at her, sunk his boots into her ribs, scratched her.

Nothing.

Lucius had always loved hurting those weaker than himself. It gave him some sort of twisted sense of power to see someone cowed and broken before him. Yet this one wasn’t giving him the satisfaction that he wanted, needed. She just stayed where she was, blood dripping down her face from a cut in her hairline.

----

Inside, Hermione screamed every time Lucius’ fists and feet pounded into her, but outwardly she gave no hint that he was hurting her. She didn’t want to give him the satisfaction.

As he stood looking down at her, a sadistic sneer on his face she felt herself go cold. Holding his wand in front of his face he muttered “engorgio”. Hermione’s eyes widened as the wand swelled into a club. Lucius’ evil grin widened as he brought the club back and swung it into her face. She whimpered as she felt her jaw break.

----

Severus looked his former pupil in the eye as they circled each other, wands ready. Draco’s eyes narrowed as he took in his former teacher, his voluminous black robes hadn’t changed, his hair was a little longer and less greasy, his face a little paler. Probably, Draco smirked to himself, from whichever cave he’d been hiding in since the end of the war.

Severus saw Draco’s smirk and raised his wand. Just as Draco was about to cast Avada Kedavra, Severus struck.

“INCARCEROUS FERROUS!”

Draco howled as the iron ropes wrapped their way around him tightly. Severus stepped behind him.

“You picked the wrong side.”

----

Down in the cellar, Lucius heard his son’s scream. Quickly he bolted the heavy oak door and warded it heavily. Let that son-of-a-bitch just try. He would be waiting!
