~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lunch at Number 12 Grimmauld place turned out to be quite an awkward, and over-all silent affair.
No one was quite sure what to say to Sirius and Hermione, but the silence wasn't nearly as bad as the stares they were recieving. Looks of worry, sadness, and perhaps even guilt crossed Molly Weasley's face more than a few times throughout the meal, while Ron sat there with a scowl and a look of pure loathing, and Harry... Harry had a dopey little grin cross his features every time he looked at the couple.
And Severus Snape, who had happened to be there for lunch as well looked... well, it was the closest to happy, perhaps even joyus, anyone had ever seen him. He was enjoying terribly the idea of the annoying know-it-all witch being thrust upon the pureblood playboy. It was just too perfect for him that he could barely contain his glee.
Halfway through the meal Hermione began to droop physically. She rested her head on her hand on the table and yawned quietly, earning her a concerned look from her new husband.
"Hermione, are you alright, love?" Sirius asked her, his voice plainly laced with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine thanks. I'm just so terribly tired all of a sudden. I feel rather... out of it. It's like I've had a bit too much to drink, only I've not had anything... I guess I just can't quite explain," she said with a slight shrug.
"Come on, you should go have a brief sleep before the order meeting. It would do you some good, I think." Sirius said as he stood up and helped Hermione from her chair. She must have been quite tired as she didn't even protest.
Everyone was distracted enough by the two of them leaving the kitchen not to notice Molly biting her lip and fidgeting nervously for a moment as her mind whirrled.
The dinning room cleared out rather quickly once the spectacle had finished, leaving Professor Snape and Mrs Weasley sitting at the table finishing up the rest of their meal, though Molly had barely touched her portion.
Steeling her courage Molly turned and faced Professor Snape. "Severus, may I speak with you for a moment, please?" she asked rather hesitantly.
"I suppose, concidering the fact that you already are," he snarked.
Molly nodded and grabbed her wand, casting a few quick charms around the dinning room to make sure what she said would stay between them.
Snape raised an eyebrow as she cast her charms, his curiousity getting the better of him for once. "Well?"
"Promise me that what I have to tell you will be kept in strictest confidence?" Mrs Weasley asked nervously, starting to fidget again ever so slightly.
"I make no promises," was all he said to her.
Molly was quiet for a moment, weighing out her thoughts to see if this was indeed important enough to talk about. She sighed in defeat as she realized it was probably best that she ask her questions now.
"There wouldn't be any adverse effects from mixing a light calming draught with a fertility potion, would there?" she asked quietly.
Severus looked at her wide-eyed. "Not exactly, no... Surely you and Arthur aren't..." he couldn't finish the statement without shuddering.
"No, no, we're not trying... But there are no side effects though?"
"Which two potions did you use?" he asked, just to make sure.
His eyes once again widened of their own accord as she gave him the information he was looking for.
"Those two particular potions, when mixed they actually increase each others potency greatly, making for an almost euphoric calming draught and an incredibly potent fertility potion. Just how much of each did you use?"
Once again, Molly relayed her knowledge and Severus could only stare for a moment.
"Is... is something the matter?" Molly asked nervously.
"That was an incredibly large amount of fertility potion to use. What ever possesed you to use such an amount?" he asked harshly.
"Well, it's only slightly stronger than the amount I used when Arthur and I were trying to have Ginny. I increased it just slightly as to be more effective that way there wouldn't have to be a second dose administered..." she explained.
"That is a large amount of potion even for someone who is having fertility issues, let alone a healthy witch..." Severus went quiet for a moment, his sharp mind working quickly. If the potion wasn't for her and it was meant to work quickly and in one shot...
"Molly, who did you dose with this?" Severus asked, his voice cold. "WHO?"
Molly said nothing but turned and looked through the dinning room door into the living room where Hermione lay sleeping on the couch, her head on Sirius' leg as the older man chatted quietly with Remus Lupin, trying to avoid waking his tired wife.
Severus followed her line of vision, taking in the sight in the living room before turning back to Mrs Weasley, his eyes narrowing darkly as he realized what she was pointing out.
"Is the tiredness from the potion," Molly asked quietly, avoiding the harsh gaze she was recieving.
Speaking through clenched, angry teeth Severus told her, "In effect yes. That particular fertility potion speeds up the body's natural processes. Should a fertile egg be created the potion speeds the body up, causing implantation a lot earlier than what nature would do on it's own. It takes so much energy for this process to occur that the witch in question becomes decidedly tired and "out of it" as she mentioned during lunch."
"And the dose I used?"
"We shall be lucky if Miss Granger does not have a whole litter." Severus took a hard look at the witch before him, disgust for the Weasley matriarch creeping into his veins, and a slight twinge of pity for Hermione at having her life altered in such a way. Clearing the wards Molly had set up, Severus left the kitchen debating just what to do with the news he had recieved.
Discretion would be needed, but something had to be done about the situation, that much was clear to him.
