Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Sunday night the Great Hall was filled once more, but with five long tables instead of four. This fact was not lost to anyone. There was a hush that broke out as Dumbledore walked through the center aisle to the podium and looked over everyone, the students all subdued and wary. Well punished, he thought to himself.

Clearing his throat, “Students, I have considered this situation carefully. Many of you, I’m sure, are certainly miserable in your current circumstances. The change that I make tonight will not be because I consider you suitably punished or that I am confident it will never happen again. No, the only reason that I am making a change tonight is because the one house that was not guilty of crimes against another student, the one house that was unjustly punished for the actions of others, have all volunteered to patrol and ensure the safety of others. Indeed though, they are not the only ones to come forward with the intention to protect others and it is for this reason alone that I will make the following changes...” All four houses held their breath in eager anticipation, “I will not rescind the programs that have been started this year...remedial and advanced classes will be reinstated, with the placement of our two new Professors...”

He motioned to the doors that opened, admitting Hermione and Draco. A resounding cheer went through the Hall, freezing both of them in their tracks. Draco looked up warily, having been determined not to meet anyone’s gaze. His breath caught, seeing the happiness on their faces. Happiness to see him? Albus gestured and they both came forward, “In exchange for the reinstatement of Hogsmeade outings, I will deduct House points for the attack on a student. Fifty points will be lost to Ravenclaw and Slytherin, one hundred points from Hufflepuff. The attackers: Mr. Nott, Mr. Smith, Mr. Cauldwell, and Mr. Penbrook; will be spending one month of detentions with Mr. Filch.”

Thomas flinched even as Roger smirked just a bit in satisfaction. He honestly didn’t know what the former Keeper was complaining about. This would lesson the number of jinxes and curses he’d been under. Even the little firsties had been researching advanced magic to curse the fifth year with. Hermione and Draco both sat at Gryffindor, the blond the most comfortable with his friends. Roger glanced at his house mates before standing. He raised a hand, “Yes, Mr. Davies?”

Meeting Dumbledore’s eyes easily, sincere, “Headmaster, we at Ravenclaw House were hoping you would lift the last restriction made to us.”

Professor Lappish narrowed her eyes, she expected more from Davies. Albus shook his head, “I’m afraid I cannot lift punishments instilled by your Head of House.”

Shaking his head before looking to his right and meeting Draco’s eyes, “No sir. I meant the punishment of taking a Ravenclaw from us...we want him back.”

Draco blinked in surprise, glancing at Albus who said nothing, no help whatsoever. Professor Lappish was positively glowing. He looked at Harry and Hermione but they both just shrugged, leaving it up to him. Now he wasn’t sure what to do and Ron decided to help him out, “Go on, Draco. We’re you’re friends and they’re your house...and if you change your mind, we’ll make you an honorary Gryffindor.”

Seamus stood up, “You hear that? You can’t take care of him we’ll kidnap him and make a Gryffindor out of him.”

Draco blushed while the Ravenclaws looked fairly abashed. But he nodded his acceptance, “Alright then. Now, I believe we had best eat, and then off to bed with you, classes will be starting before you know it.”

“Draco?”

Closing his eyes for a moment, not sure who was behind him, he slowly turned and felt his jaw drop. The home kids, every single blessed one of them behind him. One of the more outspoken nine year olds by the name of Tommy at the front, “You’re okay, right? I mean...really?”

A small smile playing on his face after a moment. They were concerned for him and it touched something deep inside his ravaged heart, “Yes.” They surged as one entity, arms going around him and gently squishing him in a group hug. The Golden Trio glanced at one another and smiled to themselves.

Pansy smirked sweetly, “Aww...I need-Creevy!”

The second year Gryffindor spun around and snapped his camera, “Yes?”

Crooking a finger, she silently pointed to the sight, “Get me a copy of that and you can keep the original...as long as it doesn’t end up in the Prophet.”

Shrugging, “Okay.” Colin carefully focused before snapping a photo, startling Draco who tried to whirl around.

Creevy’s eyes widened at the outrage on his face, jerked to stare at Parkinson for help before he took off running. Pansy burst out laughing, bending over to cackle in glee while Draco tried to wiggle free, “Pansy I’m going to kill you!”

Snorting, seeing two five year olds attached to his back, “I’ll be sleeping in the dungeons before you get free.”

He glared, “I know the password, Parkinson.”

Smirking and crossing her arms, “Not to my suite, you don’t.”

Hand on his hip, four year old wrapped around his leg and eight year old tugging on his hand, “Chipmunk.”

She paled, giving him a furtive look before spinning on her heel, no doubt to change her password, “Night!”

Calling after her, tickling a giggling child near him, “Don’t change it to Weasley or I’ll be disappointed.” She screamed wordlessly and pulled at her hair as she disappeared down the stairs. Giving a sly grin to the stunned Gryffindors, “It’s her own fault I know her so well.”

Ron shook his head, “That’s just...wrong I-...I’m going to bed.”

Hermione and Harry glanced at one another, the redhead already disappearing dazedly down the hallway. She pointed to Harry and he nodded with a sigh, “Alright, Draco...how did you do that?”

Picking up a rather insistent four year old, grunting as he was power squeezed by a couple of nine year olds. Shrugging, “Chipmunk, well that’s obvious. My nickname...Weasley? I took a guess considering she has a crush on him.” The two best friends gaped at one another, “Oh please, you didn’t really buy her animosity as anything else. Hermione I assumed at least you would have figured it out being female.”

Cassie came out of the Hall clapping her hands, “Alright you little leaches, to bed. I want my bestest bud back so go on. Shoo.” There were groans but they all silently obeyed. Then he had an eleven year old leach throw her arms around him, “You’re okay!”

Awkwardly patting her back, “You knew I was-...”

She pulled back and lightly smacked his shoulder, “I knew no so thing. You’ve been in the hospital or in your room but you never ventured near Ravenclaw...not that I blame you, rotten bastard.” She pulled herself up proudly, “I learned the Bat Bogey Hex just for you.” Draco grinned at the very thought.

A throat cleared caught their attention. Professor Lappish raised an eyebrow, “Assuming you’re coming back to the dormitory you might want to hurry. Curfew is in twenty minutes.” The friends glanced at one another and said quick good nights before hurrying for their common rooms.
