The Potions Shop
Downtown Salem
The Next Day
Lucinda looked over the shelves, placing various vials and jars in empty spots. Severa was in the back, brewing Wolfsbane. Hell she could smell it up front. But she knew from experience that it wouldn't put too many people off. Muggles still came in and bought things, even with the horrendous smell.
Once it was done, about 200 people would be coming in the next couple days to buy it, and that would be just from Salem alone. Another 3,000 would be coming from the New England states and New York. Severa was one of best brewers of the potion and due to the new law passed by the AWC, that any person that was registered on the Werewolf Database, it was mandatory to take Wolfsbane. And Severa happened to be the only one in the area at the moment that brewed it tolerably...and cheaply.
"Hi Lucinda!" two girls called out cheerfully, coming into the store. Lucinda nodded and went back to filling the shelves. Only about eight people were in the store, all Muggles, and they were browsing. Sometimes it still boggled Lucinda's mind how open the magical community was in America.
There was still some prejudice, but that was in places where magic wasn't a complete part of their history. Salem was founded on magic. And it was the main HQ of the MMIA and the AWC. A lot of the New England towns had history with magic. It was generally where most of the magical community gathered.
"Oh cool. Self burning and Healing candles? How much?"
"Depends on the color Kari."
"What about a black one?"
One of the Muggle teens snorted, while a young witch perused through some of the older potions books.
"That's on the Wizard and Witch's side. They can only sell those to them."
"That sucks."
"Whoa! Is that a unicorn horn?"
"Might be. Probably there for decoration."
"Any creams or lotions?"
"Probably not for a couple days. Lucinda and Severa don't put them out until it's like three days before Christmas."
Of course it did have the largest werewolf,lychan and vampire population. Not to mention most of the land itself was owned by Allesandra. Salem Forest and the Salem Woods were Allesandr'a property, and a haven to the tribes and clans, and a couple werewolf colonies.
"Lucinda! Has Severa made any more of the Holly based hand lotions?"one of the Muggle children, a regular asked from their side of the store. "My mom's been begging for me to get some more."
"Not yet. She's been busy concentrating on the Wolfsbane,"Lucinda stacked three potions books on the shelf. "Don't worry. She'll get to the specials in a day or two."
"Holly based?" She heard one the girl's whisper. The young witch dropped three potions books and a jar of crushed beetle eyes on the counter, along with some new scales.
"Some sort of healing thing. It's the main ingredient. Your step-sister is a witch, ask her."
"That'll be 45 Galleons,"Lucinda told the witch as the a Muggle boy, probably 16 came in.
Holly Based Hand Lotion. Dragon Hot Cream. Relaxation Potions. Some of the things that Severa and Lucinda were able to sell to the Muggle community. They were quite fortunate to be settled in the Salem Market, a little commerical area of the town that was a compromise of magical and Muggle stores.
The Potions Shop was right next to a couple Muggle hangouts, plus a magic bookstore, a pet store and several others. Of course everything was technically segregated. The pet store, run by a witch had normal everyday pets for the Muggles and then of course the animals that wizarding children chose. The AWC made it clear that if you were to have a shop in Salem's Market, it had to be for both sides of the world.
"Thank you dear. Tell your mother I said hello."
The young witch nodded and hurried out.
And that was exactly what they did for the Potions Shop. On one side of the shop was AWC regulated potions,creams,lotions, self burning candles that healed or helped, and other things in that nature. Nothing dangerous or potentially harmless. Unless of course you put some money under the table...then Severa was willing to break a few rules. After all, she had told Lucinda after handing a muggle teen an Obsession Potion, she wasn't a Renegade for nothing.
"Are there any more Dragon Creams?"Another teen asked. "My dad loves them. Says they really do work on his arthritis."
Lucinda smiled. Dragon Creams. Basically a hand lotion that was charmed to help ease the aches of old aging. Muggles did age rather fast...and painfully. Severa made a variety of them. Dragon Cream was the best.
"I think there'll be a new batch tomorrow. We do have some Unicorn Soothing Cream." Lucinda set a cauldron down. "I think there's a couple jars left, right next to the red candles. You'll want to buy those as well. They help ease tension when they burn."
The teen smiled brightly and hurried over to the shelf, pointing to various jars and helping a couple others take some down. Lucinda turned back to her work, setting up the Witch and Wizard side of the store.
This was the part of the store that was as strictly regulated. Potion books, potion ingredients, cauldron's, one of the largest variety of potions and joke potions,(thanks mainly to the Weasley Wizarding Wheezes) and measuring tools. All the potions that AWC approved of. While the ones they didn't were held in a small private room near the back where others could buy them without worrying. Mainly potions that were made by Allesandra.
"What do the blue candles do?"
Lucinda turned around to see two Muggle teens lay several red candles and about three jars of Unicorn Soothing Cream on the counter. The boy that was among them was pointing to largest candles on the shelves.
"Helps the sick feel better. If someone has the slight flu or cold, just light one in their room and within two days they get tons better. The yellows are to induce happiness, the green ones are to induce contenment, the red and pink ones ease tension and reduce ill will feelings. Are you done?"
They nodded and Lucinda walked over to ring them up. She then heard the boy utter softly, "What about the black ones? Why can't they be on our side?"
Lucinda arched an eyebrow. A black candle was among one of the few candles they were technically allowed to sell to Muggles. The black candles help arouse trouble, if lit they could cause fights. The grey ones were milder, just to bring discontent and restlessness. The purple candles were used to make someone grow jealous, create an obsession. Basically those candles were to be used against enemies.
"We're not allowed to sell you the black candles."Lucinda said evenly as the boy narrowed his eyes. She turned to the girls. "The total is 22 of your dollars, but 12 of our galleons."
While the two girls emptied their wallets to combine their change Lucinda watched the boy's eyes roam over the illegal candles. She knew he wanted to buy some...but what for?
"We only have 21,"One of the girls pouted.
Lucinda smiled. "Well then, you owe me a dollar. Come by tomorrow." The girls brightened and Lucinda gave them their purchases.
"Come on Rory,"the girls called out leaving the shop.
Dark eyes met Lucinda's. "How much would one black one and one purple one cost?" he asked firmly, quietly.
Lucinda eyebrows shot up. "A black candle is 25 Galleons,"she said coldly. "And a purple one is 30."
"No dollars?"he taunted softly.
"We don't sell them to Muggles. Especially Muggle children."
"I'm 18. Hardly a child."he laid a small,but full, leather coin purse on the counter. " And I know you'll be willing to sell if we're willing to pay a higher price."
"How much higher?"Severa's voice, Lucinda could recognize the cold, ruthless voice anywhere, asked. The other woman set a small cauldron, filled with wolfsbane down on the floor next to counter and approached the door. "How much are you willing to part with boy, to make it worth it for us to sell only Witch or Wizard candles to a Muggle?"
"90 Galleons."
Lucinda knew a battle was brewing in her old friend's head as she and boy stared at each other. She wanted to sell them, but didn't want them traced back to her if something nasty came about and the candles were discovered. And then of course the consequences of it getting back to Potter. Neither one of them needed trouble from Potter. But the candles, if discovered, could be traced a couple other shops. The Potions Shop had three other competitions; The Wild Witches which was run by of course the Wild family, Trials and Tribulations, an odds and ends shop that dealt with anything, and Every Potion For Every Need, which was run by a eccentric witch that was rumored to be around 500 years old.
"95 Galleons,"Severa countered.
The boy didn't blink. "Fine with me."He pushed the entire leather purse over.
Lucinda walked over to a small locked glass chest and took out the wanted candles. As Severa counted the Galleons, she wrapped them and handed them over to the boy. But before he could leave, Severa grabbed his wrist.
"You better pray that whatever you're up to boy,"She snarled, "that those blasted candles won't get traced back to us. Use them wisely, and carefully. Do not mess around."
The boy nodded and left.
Dark black eyes narrowed and Lucinda shook her head. "Wisely and carefully. Really Severa. That was a wasted warning."
The woman grinned nastily. "Not really. My special candles have a certain hex on them. Whatever he does to his victims, it'll happen threefold to him."
"Just make sure they're hidden when my great niece and nephew come in here," Lucinda groused. "And they'll probably have Miss Potter with them, and I don't feel like selling something to her that'll piss the hell out of her father. I don't need trouble from him."
"So, they're here for the holidays again?" Severa ripped open a box and took out six books. "Ah great. Potions For The Magically Stupid came in. These will sell like mad. They simplify every potion from the Sleeping Draught to the Wolfsbane...although how you can ever simplify that is beyond me. Make sure they're up before the holiday rush."
"Sure. Oh and a request for 10 vials of Polyjuice Potion came in."
"10?"
"Yes. I didn't ask why. At 200 Galleons each, I'm not going to bother."
Severa chuckled. "Ah, you're getting better. Starting to become a true Malfoy, Lucinda. Soon the absolute greed and quest for power will come."
Lucinda shuddered. "Don't let Isabella hear you say that. And I don't certianly want to become a true Malfoy, if what happened to my brother is an example of being a true Malfoy."
"What happened to your Lucius is an example of pureblood idiocy that resulted in decades of marrying cousins. Also shove in a dose of false hopes given to him by the half breed brat of Salazar's blood and mix it in with a good case of sanity and then a bite of karma in the ass. That is what happened to your dear brother."

Salem Market
Later In The Day
"Merlin, I forgot how crowded it got in this place during the holidays," Harry muttered, stepping around three Muggle children.
Gina laughed. "It's not that busy. Christmas is nothing compared to Halloween down here. The curfew is raised by an hour so people can extend their shopping and trick or treating."
"Curfew?" Bill queried.
Mali nodded. "Salem has a curfew. Basically everyone has to be off the streets by sundown. Anyone still on the streets and not in their homes...well the AWC and the local Muggle police will not be held responsible for what happens. But the curfew is strictly enforced during the full moon."
"Hey, there's a small cafe on the other side."Gina pointed to a small eatery that was near the pet shop. "We can sit and chat while our kids run wild."
The many adults nodded and made their way to Zora's Little Wonders, a cafe run by Zora Wild. Not unusual. The Wild's hand their hands in a lot of business in Salem and Boston. They were linked to Allesandra and were one of the oldest American Wizarding families.
"Well, well, how many do we have here?" The witch smiled as they all came in.
Everyone had decided to do some last minute shopping, including their kids, so The Weasley Bunch, Mali and Harry, and Draco and Savannah had made their way to Salem Market. And as of this moment every Weasley child, Raven and James, and the Malfoy kids were running rampant.
"Don't ask. All our kids are shopping. We're hiding." Ron qupped. "Got some free space by your window?"
Zora nodded and pointed. The adults made their way over and sat, giving various orders on what they wanted.
"How many towns have a curfew?" Fred asked.
"Just the ones that have a high population of vampires and werwolves."
"And I thought every werewolf in America had Wolfsbane. Doesn't the The Potions Shop make a ton of it and sell it cheap?"Fred pointed out. "I may not live in America but I do know that. So technically the curfew should just be because of the vampires."
"Some people can't take the Wolfsbane potion,"Mali answered. "I know three of them that can't because they're allergic to a majority of the ingredients are in it. So there are precautions that are taken for the ones that can't, but no guarantees can be made. Accidents do happen. We've had six attacks this whole year."
"Not to mention ten deaths at the hands of vampires,"Harry muttered darkly. "Mainly tourists who don't pay heed to the curfew."
"Boy, America sure is pretty free with..."George trailed off. "Well, you know what I mean."
"At least we don't have Dementors," Ron pointed out before digging into his sandwhich that was just placed in front of him. "You can thank the vampires for that. Never seen one species take such an instant dislike to another."
"They state they were here first. And they aren't a creation of someone's deadly,sick, and twisted desires. Which is true. I bet the Lychans wish that was true for the werwolves."
"All right, please someone explain to me the situation with the Lychans and the werewolves," Fred pleaded. "I think American has the only Lychans."
"Not true. There are some small Lychan colonies in Africa and Asia. But since you asked. Lychans are a form of hybrid magic. Elementals really. An oddity in the world of magic. They started popping up around 2000 years after the First Families. They have the ability to bend the elements to their will and they can do what we call wandless magic. The claim their true form is the form of the wolf, while their human appearance is just a secondary form." Malicia recounted. "I believe my mother has a better view on their origins anyway. But there was a point in time when they couldn't control themselves in their wolf form during certain lunar times, mainly the full moon. Every once in a while, a human would stray across their path, and either die or survive the attack, only to have side effects."
"I believe those side effects would be becoming a monster every full moon?" Fred asked lightly.
"I wouldn't call that a side effect. I would call that a change in life, " George retorted.
"How about just having a new life?"
"How about you two shutting up so Mali can finish?"
Mali held up a hand. "True. The Lychans realized that once they bit a human; witch,wizard, or Muggle, that the side effects that came with the bite were....catastrophic. The victim did not become them, but more of...a violent,darker version of themselves. Werewolves. And the victims were the ones that created all the horror stories. The original werewolves were monsters. Unable to take human form again once they changed. But over the centuries they evolved, and the monster only came out once a month."
"So I take it the Lychans wished that werewolves didn't exist?"
"If it was left up to them they would of hunted down and killed every werewolf they came across,"Harry joined the conversation. "They are ashamed actually. Werewolves are a version of themselves really, only they are the monster that lurks inside every one of them. Lychans can just control it better. So they just view werewolves as their deranged cousins, relatives they would prefer not to exist."

Among The Shops
About An Hour Later
"I'm exhausted," Draca moaned, leaning against a brick wall. "Shopping takes up so much energy."
"What on earth did you buy? The entire market?" Regina exclaimed, finally taking notice in the twelve bags that surrounded Draca.
"Not all of them are mine." Draca snapped. "Damien left some of his with me while he went into Brooms And Quidditch. I think he's drooling over the Javelin 1250."
"That he is,"Raven confirmed as she stepped out of said shop and, and set down two other bags.
"What did you just get?" Sebastian asked, coming over to join the girls, James and a couple others trailing him.
" Wild's Wicked Broom Fixing Kit and a book on the history of the Quidditch team the Salem Witch Hunters."
"Who'd you get the book for?" James asked, his voice tired as he sat down on a bench, bags surrounding him.
"For Uncle Ron. He's taking a liking to them. I also got him a book on the Chudley Cannon's," everyone winced; "and the kit is for Dad. I heard him grumbling about needing a new one. What about you? Where did you go?"
"Wild's Books. I got Ancient Magical Rituals for Lorena, she's been salivating over that for like a year. And a book on Dark Wizards And Witches for Grandmother. She doesn't have that in her library yet. I went into Sha'Lin's shop as well."
"Sha'Lin? Sha'Lin Devasta?" Draca stared at him. "Did she predict your death the minute you went it?"
James frowned. "No. She just said hello. Also muttered something about trouble and then left me alone."
"What did you get from her?"
"You heard Dad about his opinions on Divination right?"
"Same as yours really. Didn't Trewlawney predict your death every year when you had her?"
"You should of seen her reaction when she first met him."Sebastian grinned. "She nearly had a fit. She said something about unnatural forces at work and that he was born in a terrible year."
"Daft old bat."
"True. But she is a Seer."
"An accidental one."
"James."
"So what? She made maybe three prophecies? And all of them just out of the blue? I bet her ancestors are rolling in their graves about this little descendent of theirs. They probably didn't even SEE this coming."
The group all groaned at the lame joke. Several of them pelted James with popcorn. Raven just smacked him on the head.
"All right, so what did you buy?"
"A crystal ball, a book on fortune telling, and a book on palm reading. Figured Dad would like the crystal ball, kind of a joke really. And the books are for Mom. She's really into the palm reading thing."
"Anybody been in the The Potions Shop?" Georgina asked.
Raven shook her head. "Crowded as hell when I went by about a half hour ago. Mainly people coming to buy the Wolfsbane potion. Malfoy and Snape don't put their holiday stuff up until a couple more days I think.
"I think Xander,Rain,Jade and Osiris went in a few minutes ago."
"Went in where?"Damien asked, coming out of the shop. He had a book in his hands.
"What did you get?"
"A History of Seekers. Went in where?"
"The Potions Shop."
"Cool. Are we going?"
Everyone looked at each other for a moment. Then as if by silent agreement, everyone picked up their packages and made their way across the street.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How much was that again?"
"5 sickles."
The woman nodded and dug in to her bag. Minutes later she left, clutching the Wolfsbane to her chest.
Severa bent over the cauldron and drained what was left in the remaining vials. It had been an hour since the shopping really began and she had already sold 300 vials of Wolfsbane.
"Damn. Not a lot left huh?"
"Shut up Damien. She'll have more up there soon."
"Where are they?"
"Probably in the back."
"Lucinda."
Lucinda looked up from the cauldron she had just cleaned.
"Brats. I think I heard Malfoy's kids. Better go see."
The blonde woman nodded and headed out front while Severa set the cauldron aside, brought another full one out and began filling up more vials.
Mali nodded. "Salem has a curfew. Basically everyone has to be off the streets by sundown. Anyone still on the streets and not in their homes...well the AWC and the local Muggle police will not be held responsible for what happens. But the curfew is strictly enforced during the full moon."
"Hey, there's a small cafe on the other side."Gina pointed to a small eatery that was near the pet shop. "We can sit and chat while our kids run wild."
The many adults nodded and made their way to Zora's Little Wonders, a cafe run by Zora Wild. Not unusual. The Wild's hand their hands in a lot of business in Salem and Boston. They were linked to Allesandra and were one of the oldest American Wizarding families.
"Well, well, how many do we have here?" The witch smiled as they all came in.
Everyone had decided to do some last minute shopping, including their kids, so The Weasley Bunch, Mali and Harry, and Draco and Savannah had made their way to Salem Market. And as of this moment every Weasley child, Raven and James, and the Malfoy kids were running rampant.
"Don't ask. All our kids are shopping. We're hiding." Ron qupped. "Got some free space by your window?"
Zora nodded and pointed. The adults made their way over and sat, giving various orders on what they wanted.
"How many towns have a curfew?" Fred asked.
"Just the ones that have a high population of vampires and werwolves."
"And I thought every werewolf in America had Wolfsbane. Doesn't the The Potions Shop make a ton of it and sell it cheap?"Fred pointed out. "I may not live in America but I do know that. So technically the curfew should just be because of the vampires."
"Some people can't take the Wolfsbane potion,"Mali answered. "I know three of them that can't because they're allergic to a majority of the ingredients are in it. So there are precautions that are taken for the ones that can't, but no guarantees can be made. Accidents do happen. We've had six attacks this whole year."
"Not to mention ten deaths at the hands of vampires,"Harry muttered darkly. "Mainly tourists who don't pay heed to the curfew."
"Boy, America sure is pretty free with..."George trailed off. "Well, you know what I mean."
"At least we don't have Dementors," Ron pointed out before digging into his sandwhich that was just placed in front of him. "You can thank the vampires for that. Never seen one species take such an instant dislike to another."
"They state they were here first. And they aren't a creation of someone's deadly,sick, and twisted desires. Which is true. I bet the Lychans wish that was true for the werwolves."
"All right, please someone explain to me the situation with the Lychans and the werewolves," Fred pleaded. "I think American has the only Lychans."
"Not true. There are some small Lychan colonies in Africa and Asia. But since you asked. Lychans are a form of hybrid magic. Elementals really. An oddity in the world of magic. They started popping up around 2000 years after the First Families. They have the ability to bend the elements to their will and they can do what we call wandless magic. The claim their true form is the form of the wolf, while their human appearance is just a secondary form." Malicia recounted. "I believe my mother has a better view on their origins anyway. But there was a point in time when they couldn't control themselves in their wolf form during certain lunar times, mainly the full moon. Every once in a while, a human would stray across their path, and either die or survive the attack, only to have side effects."
"I believe those side effects would be becoming a monster every full moon?" Fred asked lightly.
"I wouldn't call that a side effect. I would call that a change in life, " George retorted.
"How about just having a new life?"
"How about you two shutting up so Mali can finish?"
Mali held up a hand. "True. The Lychans realized that once they bit a human; witch,wizard, or Muggle, that the side effects that came with the bite were....catastrophic. The victim did not become them, but more of...a violent,darker version of themselves. Werewolves. And the victims were the ones that created all the horror stories. The original werewolves were monsters. Unable to take human form again once they changed. But over the centuries they evolved, and the monster only came out once a month."
"So I take it the Lychans wished that werewolves didn't exist?"
"If it was left up to them they would of hunted down and killed every werewolf they came across,"Harry joined the conversation. "They are ashamed actually. Werewolves are a version of themselves really, only they are the monster that lurks inside every one of them. Lychans can just control it better. So they just view werewolves as their deranged cousins, relatives they would prefer not to exist."
Among The Shops
About An Hour Later
"I'm exhausted," Draca moaned, leaning against a brick wall. "Shopping takes up so much energy."
"What on earth did you buy? The entire market?" Regina exclaimed, finally taking notice in the twelve bags that surrounded Draca.
"Not all of them are mine." Draca snapped. "Damien left some of his with me while he went into Brooms And Quidditch. I think he's drooling over the Javelin 1250."
"That he is,"Raven confirmed as she stepped out of said shop and, and set down two other bags.
"What did you just get?" Sebastian asked, coming over to join the girls, James and a couple others trailing him.
" Wild's Wicked Broom Fixing Kit and a book on the history of the Quidditch team the Salem Witch Hunters."
"Who'd you get the book for?" James asked, his voice tired as he sat down on a bench, bags surrounding him.
"For Uncle Ron. He's taking a liking to them. I also got him a book on the Chudley Cannon's," everyone winced; "and the kit is for Dad. I heard him grumbling about needing a new one. What about you? Where did you go?"
"Wild's Books. I got Ancient Magical Rituals for Lorena, she's been salivating over that for like a year. And a book on Dark Wizards And Witches for Grandmother. She doesn't have that in her library yet. I went into Sha'Lin's shop as well."
"Sha'Lin? Sha'Lin Devasta?" Draca stared at him. "Did she predict your death the minute you went it?"
James frowned. "No. She just said hello. Also muttered something about trouble and then left me alone."
"What did you get from her?"
"You heard Dad about his opinions on Divination right?"
"Same as yours really. Didn't Trewlawney predict your death every year when you had her?"
"You should of seen her reaction when she first met him."Sebastian grinned. "She nearly had a fit. She said something about unnatural forces at work and that he was born in a terrible year."
"Daft old bat."
"True. But she is a Seer."
"An accidental one."
"James."
"So what? She made maybe three prophecies? And all of them just out of the blue? I bet her ancestors are rolling in their graves about this little descendent of theirs. They probably didn't even SEE this coming."
The group all groaned at the lame joke. Several of them pelted James with popcorn. Raven just smacked him on the head.
"All right, so what did you buy?"
"A crystal ball, a book on fortune telling, and a book on palm reading. Figured Dad would like the crystal ball, kind of a joke really. And the books are for Mom. She's really into the palm reading thing."
"Anybody been in the The Potions Shop?" Georgina asked.
Raven shook her head. "Crowded as hell when I went by about a half hour ago. Mainly people coming to buy the Wolfsbane potion. Malfoy and Snape don't put their holiday stuff up until a couple more days I think.
"I think Xander,Rain,Jade and Osiris went in a few minutes ago."
"Went in where?"Damien asked, coming out of the shop. He had a book in his hands.
"What did you get?"
"A History of Seekers. Went in where?"
"The Potions Shop."
"Cool. Are we going?"
Everyone looked at each other for a moment. Then as if by silent agreement, everyone picked up their packages and made their way across the street.
"How much was that again?"
"5 sickles."
The woman nodded and dug in to her bag. Minutes later she left, clutching the Wolfsbane to her chest.
Severa bent over the cauldron and drained what was left in the remaining vials. It had been an hour since the shopping really began and she had already sold 300 vials of Wolfsbane.
"Damn. Not a lot left huh?"
"Shut up Damien. She'll have more up there soon."
"Where are they?"
"Probably in the back."
"Lucinda."
Lucinda looked up from the cauldron she had just cleaned.
"Brats. I think I heard Malfoy's kids. Better go see."
The blonde woman nodded and headed out front while Severa set the cauldron aside, brought another full one out and began filling up more vials.
