Lucius, Draco and Hermione entered the foyer of the Ministry. They walked over to the desk as the security checked them for anything dangerous, and handed their wands back. Lucius glared at the security guard as they walked away.
“Be strong, Hermione.” Draco said, holding her hand tightly, as they entered the lift.
Lucius was retrieving glances from the lifts occupants, obviously wondering what he and his son was doing with a Muggle-Born-especially when Draco’s hand gripped hers tighter. They exited the lift and walked down the shiny green and Silver corridor.
“Scrimgeour was in Slytherin. When he took over the position of Minister of Magic, he changed the colors of everything from Gryffindor colors to Slytherins. He has a real problem with pretty much everything.” Lucius explained, noticing her disgusted glances at the walls and carpet.
They turned the corner that led them to a door that was also green and silver, with a snake on it’s door handle. Both Lucius and Hermione rolled their eyes. Se knew people liked the colors of their houses, but this…was extreme obsession.
Lucius knocked loudly. The door swung open quickly. And there stood Rufus Scrimgeour in all his arrogant glory. He peered down at Hermione sadly, but also in a way, kind of…evilly.
“Welcome Miss Granger, Lucius, Young Mr. Malfoy. Won’t you come in?” he said, moving to the frame of the door.
“Thank you Minister.” Said Hermione curtly.
“No need to thank me.” He said, smiling broadly.
“I agree.” Lucius muttered, catching a glare from Scrimgeour.
Hermione sat down in the chair across from the Minister while Draco and Lucius stood behind her. She felt uncomfortable and rude, not offering her chair. She knew they would refuse but she didn’t think twice. As she thought, they refused.
“Now…Miss Granger. The reason I have bought you here today is to discuss the well being of your Parents, Jane and Harold Granger.” Scrimgeour said, nestling his glasses on his nose.
“I’m well aware of that Minister. Please tell we what it is that has happened.” Hermione said, feeling extremely irritated.
“Hmmm…well, to get straight to the point, your parents were found at the living room table, sitting upwards with rotten meals in front of them. They had obviously been there for quite some time. Severus Snape was sent to your parents house to tell them of your…behavior, when he found them. He contacted us right away and told us that it was untraceable magic that caused their demise.” He said it so freely.
Hermione felt two hands on either shoulder, but as quickly as they were placed there they were taken away, feeling the heat her body was releasing. In one sudden move, she lunged across the desk at Scrimgeour who was taken by total surprise. The back of his chair hit the floor as she sat on his chest, bring her elbow back and her fist connecting with his jaw. She was so angry at him for telling her about her parents’ death in that icy, careless tone.
Lucius sighed, and walked around the other side of the desk to them. With one arm, he wrapped it around her waist, lifting her off the Minister for Magic, still swing mind you and carried her from the room.

“Nice one Granger. He’ll be after you now. He’ll want you to rot in Azkaban and he’ll get it.” Lucius hissed.
Hermione ignored him. If he comes looking for me…he’ll find me alright. She thought angrily, “You would have done that too if he told you your parents died as though he didn’t care!” she yelled.
“No, I wouldn’t. I have enough brains not to attack the Minister for Magic who controls the Wizarding world, might I add.” He replied lazily.
“Fine.” She spat, running from the elevator and through the foyer.
“She has to control the temper.” Lucius huffed, walking out after her, Draco along side.

A few days later, Hermione had written out all the people names she could think of that hated her family, including Voldemort of course. Even though they were almost on the same side.
“How are you feeling?” Draco asked, sitting across from her at the dining table.
“Fine.” She drawled.
“What you got there?” he tried again.
“Lists of possible suspects.” She replied, running her eyes down the parchment.
“Like who?”
“Just people that don’t like me…or my parents.” She added silently.
Draco barely nodded.
“Can you please leave me. I’d rather be alone.” She said, sounding quite exhausted.
Draco nodded, feeling hurt or betrayed. He couldn’t figure out which one. But, he did as he was told and left the room, where he could begin to sob. He closed his eyes and walked away, feeling a pang of guilt strike him hard in the face. No, that wasn’t guilt…it was a curse.
Hermione turned to the door. She heard a thud, then a popping noise. She shrugged it off and turned back around to what she was doing, totally unaware, that she had just ignored the possible deaths of Lucius and Draco Malfoy.
