CHAPTER FOURTEEN
ENTRAPMENT
TIMELINE: JANUARY 11, 1998
“Ron behind you! Stupefacio!” Hermione cried as an Incubus came behind Ron. The spell rendered the demon unconscious.
“I’ve got to get my sword.” Ron said. He raised his wand and pointed at the demon that swooped close to a screaming Hannah Abbott. “Expelliarmus!”
“Hannah!” Hermione cried. They ran towards her and picked her up.
“Hermione, what are these things? Professor Sprout is unconscious. She was bitten by one!” Hannah said with difficulty, she was crying and shaking at the same time.
“They’re Demons Hannah, we can fight them with spells!” Hermione said. “Ron they’ll find Harry!”
“Harry? Harry’s here?” Hannah said.
“Not if I can help it!” Ron said and he turned around to see the students running in fright. “Hermione I need you to get the DA together!” Ron said.
“We can’t face them, Ron! They’re too many!” Hermione said, her tears pouring down her face. “Stupefacio!” A demon fell down just a few feet away from Ron. “We can’t even kill them!”
“Use the killing curse!” Ron said.
“No!” Hermione said.
“USE IT! It’s the only thing that can kill them!” Ron said.
“It eats your soul every time you use it! Promise me you won’t!” Hermione said. “We need the Knights!”
Ron remembered the Beacon, he reached down to his pocket and found the tube that Rio gave him; he pushed the two ends together and left the ball with Hermione. “Here, take this.”
“What is it?” Hermione said. Hannah just conjured the impediment curse and nearly failed. “Hannah! Expelliarmus!” Hermione cried. “Don’t use it, Hannah! Ron,”
“It’s a Beacon, the Knights are coming! I need you to keep the students from being killed by these foul beings until they come. I need to get to Harry!” Ron said.
“Alright.” Hermione said. “Ron, be careful!”
Ron ran towards the Southern Tower - every now and then conjuring a spell to clear his path of demons. He could not understand how this could have happened; The Knights were certain that the borders were clean of them before they left, and there has been no report of a single attack for a month, no instances of trespass in all the borders, not even a shadow of this threat was seen nor expected. But here they are like a swarm of locusts they come and place the castle under siege. Ron realized how greatly they underestimated the Dark Lord and his schemes.
“Potter!” Draco cried. “Expelliarmus!”
“Harry, run for the door!” Professor McGonagall cried. “Mr. Malfoy, help Mr. Potter get to the Headmaster’s office! Extundo!” The room was cleared of demons after that last spell. Professor McGonagall turned to leave but just then something hit her from behind. Draco and Harry were barely out the door when three Death Eaters flew through the hole in the wall – Jugson, Goyle, and Nott hit the old witch from behind with the stunning spell and Minerva fell on the floor, unconscious.
“Professor McGonagall!” Harry cried and made a dash for her.
“Impedimenta!” Cried Jugson.
“Protego!” Harry cried. The spell rebounded and hit Nott.
“Expelliarmus!” Cried Draco the spell hit Goyle.
“Expelliarmus!” Cried Jugson and Draco flew out of the room.
“Everte Statum!” cried Harry. Jugson was thrown off his broomstick. “Professor McGonagall!” Harry said as he tried to revive the old witch. “Professor?”
Draco rubbed the back of his head and shook it a bit trying to get his vision straight. His head hit the edge of the stairs. “Potter? Potter?”
“I’m here Draco, we have to help Professor McGonagall!” Harry said.
But just then another Death Eater was climbing up the winding staircase and Draco cringed to see that it was Lucius heading up his way.
“Potter!” Draco cried and he ran towards Harry. “Father!”
“I knew you were here, how Dumbledore kept you undetected,” Lucius said.
“Stupefacio!” Ron had come up from behind and Lucius fell hard on the floor.
“Brilliant Weasley! Always late!” Draco said as he stood up. “How Dumbledore kept me undetected you will never find out! You demented Death Eater!” Draco kicked his father hard. Lucius remained unresponsive though his nose bled. Draco spit at his face.
Ron ran towards Harry and embraced him. “I was afraid something has happened to you.”
“Ron, Professor McGonagall is hurt!” Harry said.
“Right, we have to get her out of here. But I need to get my weapons, the castle is filled with demons!” Ron said.
“How did they find me?” Harry said.
“I don’t know. But they are attacking the students, the Professors are fighting them as best as they can, but there’s just too many of them.” Ron said.
Ron then went to their room where a large chunk of the wall has been destroyed. He changed into his uniform and armed himself with his weapons. He took his cloak and gave it to Harry. “You need to wear this, it will subdue any curse.”
“Where’s Hermione?” Harry said.
“She’s okay, she and the DA are helping the students fend these demons off. I’ve hailed the Knights, they are coming.” Ron said.
“Alright,” Harry said. “Where’s Professor Dumbledore?”
“I have not seen him Harry, but I suspect the Death Eaters have kept him busy. They’re all here.” Ron said.
Harry wondered if even Voldemort came. Perhaps he’s the one confronting Dumbledore in his office keeping him there as the demons infested the castle.
Ron drank a serum then he carried Professor McGonagall like she was a child. “Let’s go!” As they ran towards the main hallway, they met Hagrid; he was fighting off three demons at once, while four more came up behind him
“Hagrid!” Harry cried. “Expelliarmus!”
“Harry! Confounded beasts!” Hagrid said taking one of the demons by the neck and throwing it against the wall. Then he took another and hurled it against the floor – one could hear bones cracking.
“Stupefacio!” Draco cried and hit the last demon that was biting Hagrid’s leg.
Hagrid was free from the demons at last and he went to Ron who was carrying Professor McGonagall in his arms. “Ron, what happened to her?”
“She’s been stunned!” Harry said. “We have to get her to the hospital wing!”
“I’ll take her, you have to get Harry out of the castle.” Hagrid said. “There’s a floo channel in Professor Dumbledore’s office, he was attacked by them Death Eaters earlier but they’ve retreated! He’s waiting for you. Run!”
“Right!” Ron said, and he grabbed Harry by the hand and all three of them headed for Dumbledore’s office but then a large demon crashed through the walls blocking their path. “Draco, Harry move back!”
“Ron!” Harry said. The hole provided entrance for more demons and soon Ron was busy with them all. One of the demons was able grab Ron by the neck and pinned him to the wall holding his sword arm firmly, the demon raised him higher scraping his body against the wall until his legs dangled. Then the demon tightened his grip and was trying to crush his neck. “Expelliarmus!” Harry’s spell hit another demon that came between them. “RON!”
Draco went nearer and pointed his wand towards the demon that stood 12 feet tall. “AVEDA KEDAVARA!” he cried, the green light hit the demons’ head and it fell heavily on the floor dropping Ron.
“Draco!” Harry cried as he ran towards them. Draco was helping Ron up. “What the bloody hell were you thinking! You could have hit Ron!”
“But I didn’t alright! Now let’s get to Dumbledore’s office!” Draco said.
“Thanks Draco,” Ron said rubbing his neck and coughing a bit.
“You alright?” Harry said, looking at Ron’s neck.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” Ron said.
“Run! Now!” Draco said. And they headed off. When they got to the winding staircase heading up to the Headmasters’ quarters, the whole entrance collapsed. Dumbledore was trapped inside.
“NO!” Harry cried.
Then from the left more demons came and Ron grabbed Harry and they ran back towards the hospital wing. “Draco! Hurry!”
On their way there they saw more demons engaged in vicious battle with members of the DA. Harry felt somewhat proud to see them fighting so effectively: Neville and Dean, Anthony, Lee and Seamus, Terry, Katie, and Lavender. Though there were some who had fallen still there were others looking after them and fending off the demons with the training Harry was able to impart.
“Harry!” Neville cried. He alerted all the DA members and when they turned and saw him their strength renewed and they fought more fiercely.
“Ron!” Hermione cried. “Take Harry to the Gryffindor common room!”
“Hermione!” Ron cried.
“Hermione!” Harry cried. “You’re injured!”
“I’m alright, but you need to hide. The Dementors have come, the Knights are not here yet and more demons are coming from the direction of the lake. Ron we have to hide him until the Knights arrive. The Gryffindor Tower is the only place intact!” Hermione said. She was bleeding in one ear and had scratches and bruises all over. “Everte Statum!” A demon was hurled against the walls that collapsed on impact.
“Right, let’s go!” Ron said, but Harry was now grimacing in pain holding his stomach. “Harry, what’s wrong?”
“Ahh!” Harry cried. “Ron! Help me. Something popped inside!”
“Harry!” Hermione cried. “But it’s too soon! You can’t be,”
”Oh you better believe it!” Harry said grabbing Ron’s arm and squeezing it as the contraction came again. “He’s coming alright!”
“Come on Potter!” Draco said. “To the Gryffindor tower!”
Then a scream was heard from outside. It was Ginny – she was conjuring a Patronus.
“Ginny!” Hermione said. “Go Ron, bring Harry to safety!”
“No! I will not let you go out there alone, Hermione you could get killed!” Harry said. “Ron, Ginny is in trouble! We’ve got to help her!” Then Harry groped his stomach for another contraction came.
“We’ll do that!” Draco said. “Hermione and I will go to Ginny, Weasley take Potter to the Gryffindor common room!”
“Right!” Ron said. “Draco!” Ron wanted to say something but the words failed to come out. Draco nodded then he grabbed Hermione by the hand and they ran outside.
Every now and then Harry had to stop and hold onto something solid – the contraction intervals were getting closer and he could feel it getting stronger as well. Ron had to sever more heads along the way and as they got closer to the halls the demons lessened. Luckily the staircases have not been destroyed and so they got to the Gryffindor common room quickly.
Once inside Ron and Harry headed off to their old room. Harry immediately lay on the bed that used to be Ron’s and twisted in pain as another contraction came. He screamed and hit his fist on the headboard.
“Harry! Are you okay?” Ron said.
“No, I’m bloody not okay! It’s really painful!” Harry cried. “Your mother was not joking!”
Ron went to him and wrapped him in his arms. “It will be alright!” Ron said kissing him. But just then the walls of the room exploded and Ron covered Harry with his body. Two demons nearly as large as the one that almost crushed Ron’s neck were inside. Ron stood and fought the Incubi that entered - they were armed and skilled with their weapons, and Harry saw the result of Ron’s training in New York – he was magnificent to watch with his sword swinging flawlessly as though in dance. In a few minutes the demons fell headless. But just as Ron was finishing the last demon another enemy came in – two Dementors came through the gap in the wall and attacked him.
“Expecto Patronum!” Harry cried – a white stag came out of his wand and charged the Dementors that were trying to suck Ron’s soul. “Ron!” Harry said as he ran towards him.
“Expelliarmus!” a voice cried and Harry was forcibly thrown against the wall – the cloak had lessened the force of the spell but it was still strong enough to knock Harry’s glasses off. Harry held his stomach as the pain increased and blood gushed out. He dropped his wand because the pain was staggering, dropping on the floor with his hands groping his belly.
“Harry!” Ron cried. He tried to stand, though the Dementors left him weakened, the Serum was still running in his bloodstream and it enabled him to gain his strength back faster.
Harry was now crying in pain, the contractions have worsened due to the impact and he was now bleeding. “Ron, the baby,”
“Impedimenta!” Lucius cried.
“Protego!” Ron cried. The impediment curse bounced off his shield and nearly hit Lucius who jumped from his broom and unto the floor.
Rockwood, MacNair, and Travers flew in and when Ron saw them he took out his wand and pointed it at his sword, “Mucro Incendia!” The sword lighted up in a bright blue flame, then he inserted the wand inside the compartment at the hilt and turned the sword clockwise then cried out, “INFLIGO!!” The bright blue flame streaked from his sword and hit the Death Eaters setting them all on fire – shrieking in pain they all flew away. However the force of the spell made Ron’s hand numb and he dropped his sword and fell on his knees. The Bureau warned him that using magic with his weapons was a powerful force that he may not be able to handle. He would not believe them then, now he knows how wrong he was.
Just when Ron thought it was over, Lucius gained his stance and pointing his wand at Harry he was about to conjure another spell. Ron could not lift his arm to get his wand nor his sword. He went to Harry and covered him with his body as Lucius conjured the impediment curse.
“IMPEDIMENTA!” Lucius cried. A streak of light hit Ron’s body at full force.
“Harry!” Ron cried. Then he screamed as the spell penetrated his suit and he felt like a lightning bolt was burning his bones and he slowly lost consciousness.
“ROOOONNN!” Harry cried as Ron’s limp body fell on his lap. “Ron! Ron! No! Ron!!” Harry held Ron’s body. “Ron!”
Then demons came in through the gap in the wall and Harry tried to look for his wand but they were upon him and though he fought them hard he was overpowered and they took him. Lucius lead them out flying with great speed northwards. As soon as Harry was out, Dementors came in from all directions and filled the room. Ron was going to die and there was no one there to help him.
***
Outside Hermione and Draco found themselves fighting off not just the Incubi but Dementors as well. Draco has never conjured a Patronus in his entire life and he was not going to start today. So Hermione took care of the Dementors, while he tried to fend off the demons. They were not very successful either, and soon the enemy overcame them. But just when they thought it was hopeless help came. The Order of the Phoenix had arrived and they fought the Incubi and the Dementors with ferocity.
“EXTUNDO!” Cried Kingsley Shacklebolt. The hosts of demons were repelled violently against the walls.
Hermione and Draco took the opportunity to run towards Ginny and Luna who were trying to fend off the Dementors that attacked them as they fled.
“Expecto Patronum!” Cried Ginny and Luna. Their Patronuses charged the Dementors; but soon as the Dementors went away, the demons came in full force, and so Ginny and Luna had to continuously conjure spells and were now nearing exhaustion.
“Everte Statum!” Cried Draco. “Ginny! Luna! Run!”
“Luna, come on!” Hermione cried taking Luna by the hand and running off towards the castle.
Ginny was too weak from the last attack and another Dementor came and tried to suck out her soul.
“Ginny!” Draco said. Draco closed his eyes tightly and pointed his wand then said, “Expecto Patronum!” Nothing happened. “How do you conjure the fucking spell?”
“Expecto Patronum!” Padma cried. She was also badly bruised but was still able to stand and conjure a Patronus. The Dementor was gone and Ginny though weak was able to stand.
“Ginny, are you alright?” Draco said.
Ginny nodded her head but then Padma fainted, “Padma” Ginny cried.
A loud crashing sound got Draco and Ginny’s attention and when they turned to look at the direction of the noise Draco felt his heart pump faster. It was the Gryffindor tower – Harry has been found.
“They’ve found him,” Draco said. “They found Harry!” Loud noises came from the tower.
“Is he alone?” Ginny said.
“No, Ron is with him,” Draco said. They watched in horror as Lucius and later on three more Death Eaters attempted to get Harry – a bright blue light came spewing from the hole in the wall and the Death Eaters flew downwards shrieking; they passed them and headed for the lake. Then they heard Harry’s voice calling out Ron’s name.
“Something happened,” Draco said. And not long after he saw his father fleeing with two demons carrying Harry Potter with them. Then the tower was flooded with Dementors.
“Ron!” Ginny cried.
“Ginny! I will follow Harry, and try to get him back. Please tell the Order to follow if they can!” Draco said. Then he summoned his broomstick and soon he was in the air flying low at first then headed upwards at great speed.
Ginny ran back to the castle though tears blinded her eyes. “Ron,” She said softly. Just then another demon came from behind her and pushed her to the ground. Ginny hit her head on the floor hard and the demon came upon her, but just before everything went black Ginny saw her brother Charlie and her father coming towards her. Then everything went quiet.
***
Draco took out his wand and tried to steady the broom when he could no longer see Lucius nearby – they have been flying for nearly three hours now, and the demons lagged about an hour behind his father. He went closer to them and knew he needed to act now or it was going to be too late; Draco knew they were heading for the Lair where more demons and possibly Voldemort awaited them. He doesn’t know where it was exactly he was always brought there using some magical portal by his father. But he knows what it was like inside and that Harry must never reach it or he will never get out alive.
When the demons were within firing range Draco pointed his wand and cried out, “IMPEDIMENTA!” The spell hit the demon holding Harry. As they fell, Draco dove and caught Harry just in time. “Got you!”
“Draco!” Harry said he was breathing hard and grasping his stomach.
“Hang on Potter!” Draco said.
“Draco!” Harry said pointing at the other demon following closely. “Behind you!”
Draco turned and stopped. Pointing his wand at the demon he cried, “Aveda Kedavara!” The spell hit the incubus and its lifeless body drops down. “That ought to teach them to mess with me.”
“It’s so comforting to know you use the unforgivable curses with ease.” Harry said then bent grimacing in pain.
“You need to get to Hogwarts!” Draco said. But Harry was now nearly spent and knew he could not go on another hour in flight.
“Draco we have to land somewhere. I can’t go on further, please!” Harry said.
“Hogwarts is still too far, Potter.” Draco said.
“The baby is coming,” Harry said weakly.
Draco then remembered there was someone nearby they could trust. Hoping she was still there Draco dashed a little to the west.
