Chapter XIV: Singing in the Rain
Chapter XIV: Singing in the Rain
09/24/1996
For twenty minutes they flew away from the Manor. Where were they going? They weren’t quite sure. All they knew was that it was the same direction they had come from, and that seemed to be enough for them. Twenty minutes immersed in the dark night, fighting against the cold wind that pushed them back to the Malfoy imprisonment. Hera had fallen asleep in Draco’s arms shortly after they took off, but after feeling her stretch, Draco knew she was awake.
‘OK, there, Hera?’, Draco whispered and she nodded.
‘We should stop for the night… it’ll start raining any moment now’, she said drowsily.
‘Harry?!’
‘What?!’, Draco heard his voice not too far behind him.
‘Hera says we should stop because of the rain.’
‘What rain?’, Harry asked, but his question was immediately followed by a lightning and a loud thunder. ‘Nevermind…’
They flew lower for a while and eventually landed at a dark London street. The houses looked old and abandoned, the few markets had their metal blinds shut and had graffitis all over, and lying unconscious on the floor was a drunken tramp who looked like he had been beaten up by someone.
‘Nice neighbourhood…’, Harry remarked sarcastically as he took the umbrella out of the suitcase and handed it to Draco.
‘Very! I think I’ll even buy one of these houses for me and Hera. What do you say?’, he asked the little girl he held in his arms.
‘Well, at least there’s a park two blocks away’, she laughed.
Small raindrops begun to fall on their heads. Draco put Hera on the ground to open the umbrella and she ran away from them laughing and screaming happily.
‘Hera! Come back here!’, Draco laughed nervously.
‘I’ll be alright! I want to go to the swings! Don’t worry about me.’
She ran faster and Draco looked like he wanted to go after her.
‘Let her go. It’s her first day on the outside and she knows nothing will happen to her. Can you imagine what it must feel to be free to go where ever you want for the first time?’, Harry said.
‘But what about the rain? What if she gets sick?’
‘Calm down, will you!’, Harry laughed. ‘I think Hera knows more about life than you do. Look at her, running away from everything, putting her sadness past her and letting go. You should do the same once in a while! Put that umbrella down a live!’
Draco looked at Harry, with his soaked clothes sticking to his body and felt chills.
‘First of all, I would rather stay dry and warm, thank you very much. And second, Hera told me to bring it and I’m not about to put it down, since she knows a lot more than we both do.’
‘Do you do everything your sister says? Yes, she has a useful gift, but avoiding risks makes life so dull! I’m not telling you to go jump off a bridge, but doing stupid things is fun! Let me show you’, Harry said and took the umbrella, closed it and ran from him, laughing soundly.
‘You bloody git! Give it back!’, he yelled chasing him, followed by their flying luggage.
‘Do you really think I’ll give up that easily?!’, Harry said as he dodged him for the third time. He started wielding the umbrella in front of him in a teasing manner. ‘Is Draco Sodding Malfoy too tired of being beaten? Poor Draky…’
Draco grabbed the umbrella and dragged Harry along with it. He pinned him against a dirty wall and kissed him fiercely. Harry opened his eyes widely in shock but pulled him closer. Draco’s lips parted from Harry’s but returned more gently, feeling the way Harry’s trembled slightly. He felt Harry’s left hand going around his waist and pull demandingly. Draco slid his tongue into his mouth, tasting the other boy’s unique flavour. Harry didn’t seem to fully know what to do with it, which amused Draco to no end, but also made him think he was even cuter. He adjusted eventually and the kiss became more passionate, more desperate.
Draco decided he’d have some fun with Harry’s inexperience and broke the kiss to bury his lips into his neck. His hands roaming all over his back and the sucking and biting on his neck took a moan out of Harry’s mouth. Draco could feel Harry’s growing erection against his and felt the need to please him. He made their crutches collide together and kissed him fondly again. He grabbed his shoulder and kissed his way down to his chest, loving the way Harry gasped sporadically and arched his back, silently begging for more. Harry’s hand grabbed the one Draco had put on his shoulder, the one that had the ring that linked him to Hera.
Draco suddenly panicked. Potter was touching his ring. HIS ring. He was getting too fucking close, he couldn’t let that happen. Besides, Hera probably knew what he was doing and it made him sick. He pulled away from Harry and started walking fervently.
‘Draco?’, Harry asked pained. ‘Draco, what’s wrong?’
‘Nothing!’, he yelled without looking back.
‘Draco, come back! Please!’, Harry begged. Draco noticed the way his voice flaked, but he didn’t care. No, he did care, but he wouldn’t turn around to face a crushed Harry Potter. He just couldn’t.
Hera appeared from around the corner with a lily in her hand, she walked past him and offered it to Harry, who was now sitting against the wall. She whispered something in his ear and took his hand to make him get up.
‘Come on, Draky… I found somewhere we can spend the night’, she said sullenly as they passed by.
Harry looked at him as though begging for forgiveness, despite the fact that he didn’t really know what had he done wrong in the first place. His green eyes were teary and made Draco feel ashamed of himself. He followed Harry and Hera without saying a word until they reached a muggle hotel.
‘I don’t think we can stay here, love… we don’t have muggle money.’
‘We won’t need it. I saw ourselves flying through that window’, she said pointing three floors above. ‘Besides, I bet the roof has a lovely view. I want to see how the city looks from up there. Please, Draky.’
‘Alright, get on the broom.’
