Chapter 14: Best Friends and Taking Flight
November 23
9:23am
“Ginny!”
“Virginia Weasley!”
Ginny swung around and stared at the ebony-haired young woman prancing through the door in emerald robes. Her green eyes were sparkling with energy.
“Olivia Greenwood! What on earth are you doing here? You were supposed to be in America still, with Daphne’s parents. Aren’t you?”
“Yeah, but…well..suffice to say, I decided to come back early.” She put her pale hands on her hips and gave the red head a mock glare. “So I stop by to see you and what do you think I hear?” Ginny grimaced, but Olivia continued undeterred. “I’ll tell you what I heard. I heard that Draco Malfoy is a veela, and lo and behold, you, Virginia Weasley are his mate!”
nocknock it off Olivia.” The other girl sobered at Ginny’s snapping tone and dropped into a chair.
“So what do you have to add?”
By the time Ginny was done, Olivia was practically cackling.
“Why are you so upset about it? I can understand why you put up a fight. You can’t give in this soon, but Ginny come on! You’ve liked Draco Malfoy for years! What’s so horrifying about this?”
“He was a Deatheater, Olivia! How can you forget something like that?” Then as an afterthought, she added, “and I didn’t ‘like’ him, I just thought he was somewhat attractive. There’s a difference.” Ginny stared at her friend, wondering if she was seriously not understanding this.
“Yeah, but if Dumbledore supports it, then he’s either turned around, or he never was one.” The quiet serious tone of her voice reassured Ginny a bit.
“I can understand that this is hard for you, but…” Ginny frowned as Olivia trailed off almost nervously. Olivia was never nervous. Then as if figuring out what she wanted to say, she continued.
“I believe he’s a good man now. Of course he still has his faults. More arrogant than ever, but down deep, a good man.”
Ginny sighed. “Deep down I know it’s inevitable, but I haven’t been able to reconcile myself to it yet. Everything is such a whirl and I can’t…”
Olivia leaned forward and patted her friend’s shoulder. “So, who says you have to play by his rules? Take charge of the situation. Just do something. Anything.”
Ginny thought about it, as they visited for the next few hours.

She needed to get away. She needed to think. In peace. Without a hard, snarling veela breathing down her neck. Olivia was right. Perhaps then she would be able to come to terms with everything. Ginny threw some spare clothes into a bag and grabbed her wand.
Where would she go though? Somewhere completely out of England. Paris? Maybe Italy. Anywhere would be fine as long as she was alone. She didn’t have to put up with his dictates. Perhaps the final outcome was inevitable, but she didn’t intend for everything to proceed as he wished.
Draco Malfoy was in for a huge surprise.

Narcissa woke to a feeling of helplessness, a nagging feeling that something was wrong. That she needed to do something, but for the life of her she couldn’t imagine what. Then she spotted an issue of the Daily Prophet lying on one of the cots and it all came back with a vengeance.
Emily! Narcissa stifled an unladylike curse. If an announcement of her death was in the papers, it would be too late. Emily was ever efficient. The missive would already be on its way to Simeon if he hadn’t already have received it.
But surely if that was the case, he’d be here already. Simeon was just as efficient and never one to stand idlely by. He would be pounding down the door had he known.
“Pomfrey,” Narcissa called out to the older woman bustling through with kfaskfast. “do you know, has any mention of my death been in the papers?”
“Actually, it’s in today’s edition. Front page headlines. You generated quite a stir.”
Narcissa moaned and glanced at the clock. It was already late morning and Emily was an early riser. She slumped back into the pillows feeling completely drained. Whatever was going to happen would happen, and she wouldn’t be able to stop it. No real point in stewing about it.
S
She didn’t have the strength to stew anyway.

Michelle woke to Bill’s roving hand as it slipped under her nightgown and smoothed over the skin of her belly. She felt the rough calluses as he rubbed, then stilled as he waited for the baby to kick.
It had become his morning ritual practically since he had found out about her pregnancy. She stretched and arched back against him as he held her in a spoon position.
“Bill.” Michelle tried to turn around but he tightened his grip and wouldn’t let her.
“Shush.” His voice was deep and gravelly from sleep. “I’m still mad at you.” The slight edge in his tone convinced her and she fell silent, knowing from experience, it was the best way to handle him when he got this way. Usually it was because she had done something he considered dangerous.
Quite suddenly his other hand made an appearance and she arched, a moan slipping from her lips. Her husband continued to stroke and pet and play until she was a puddle in his arms.
When he drove into her, it was slightly more forceful than usual, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. One hand moved to fondle her breast made fuller by pregnancy. They both careened off the edge, him right after her, and Michelle sank back into a blissful sleepy fog.

Draco stalked toward Hogwarts, the air frigid around him. The news of his mother’s “death” had broken out into the papers this morning, and he could finally get some time away from Lucius, the reporters, the business associates, and come for Virginia.
He was hoping that he could get her to stay put long enough for her to hear him out. The little minx had the uncanny knack for turning him inside out, a fact her disliked immensely but was helpless to fight.
Somehow, he had to convince her to let him take the next step with her, before the veela side took over and forced the issue. Draco could feel the growling, growing hunger trying to take over. He’d been able to stave it off so far. Not being in her immediate vicinity helped, but not much.
Bloody hell, why did the little termagant have to be so bloody irrational? Anyone in their right mind could see they had no choice in the matter. It’s not as if he were repulsive. There were thousands of women who would give their eye teeth to be in her position. Indignation bubbled forth as his steps grew longer and more viciously precise.
So occupied was he with his thoughts that he didn’t notice love the figure sneaking away in the opposite direction until the snap of twig penetrated his brain. Draco’s head swiveled around to see a small cloaked figure hurrying away from Hogwarts. When a flame colored lock floated out, Draco stiffened and swore loudly.
Ginny looked up at the sound of his voice and glanced back towards him. From this distance, he couldn’t make out her features, but he just bet that her eyes were as huge a saucers. They should be because his vision was clouding with red and the beast was wrenching at his chains, trying to get loose.
She whirled and ran, her cloak billowing out behind her. That was all it took to snap the chains, and Draco was after her, his feet flying across the ground, his long strides quickly gaining him ground.
“Virginia!!” Draco bellowed, but instead of bringing her to a stop, she sped up. A buzzing roar swirled in his ears and a small part of his mind was conscious to the fact that he was again separating as the veela took over.
100 yards. 70 yards. 40 yards. 25. 10. 3. His fingers reached out, curling around the blue fabric. Wrenching it off her, causing him to stumble. The loud *POP* jerked his head up, but it was too late. She was gone.
The vicious growl seemed to make even the trees quake.
Author’s Note
Yes, this is short, but I had to end it there. The next chapter will have plenty of D/G action. I’ve been having loads of trouble with this chapter and I just wanted to get on with it. Writer’s block was plaguing me with this one.
I’m hoping the next chapter will be done in a week or so. Probably more like a week and a half, since my birthday is next week and I have a lot of plans.
Chapter 15 will have Draco/Ginny, more Snape/Narcissa, and Simeon should be showing up.
I want to thank everyone for their patience and their reviews. Also, if anyone wants me to let them know when I’ve updated, send an e-mail with “Story Alert” in the subject to writeclassy21@hotmail.com
Love you all,
