Chapter 14: Terry’s Disobedient Heart

The Slytherin Common Room: Sunday Night:

Terry sat beside Daria and Alec as they went through their Ancient Runes notes and prepared for the upcoming quiz. He watched Daria’s bright animated face as she and Alec talked about translations. A vague and persistent feeling of guilt was making him feel slightly depressed. He knew deep in his heart that Daria was the perfect girl for him. She was a pureblood, an intellectual and very attractive. But every time he tried to envision them together, two faces kept cropping up in his head.

The first face was Adrian’s and it made his heart lighter. Merlin, he would always really love Ade. He was his first love and his most honest one. Adrian knew everything about him, his flings and his passing fancies but Adrian still loved him.

The second face made Terry a little annoyed. Alicia Spinnet had hurt him and messed with his emotions time and time again. But Gods, he wanted her. He wanted to possess her. He wanted to lock her away in a room like the old Oriental pashas of yesteryear and visit her every night to make love to her.

“Terry,” said Daria quizzically as she interrupted his thoughts. Terry gazed into her open face and wished to himself once again that he could love her. He kissed Daria good night an hour later with a lingering sense of disquiet. He could feel the warm hearted affection in her kiss. Terry realized that he and Daria needed to talk. But later, when he gathered the courage, he simply did not want to hurt her.

As he lay awake in bed, he thought of all the lovers he had in the past few months. He didn’t regret a single one of them.

Adrian was always all about love, but real love. Being with Adrian made him exhilarated and happy as well as angry and hurt. Adrian had the power to hurt him like no other person. Terry remembered the first time Adrian kissed him. It was at Yule. They were alone in front of his fireplace at his manor late at night. They had a few drinks and Adrian was about to floo home. Terry could almost still taste the tangy sweetness of his mouth and the passionate look in Adrian’s eyes.

Daria bought a sense of comfort to him. He was comfortable with her. They had the same family background and the same friends. He could talk to her. Her daintiness excited him. He felt big and strong beside her.

Derrick had been exciting and a bit forbidden. Terry gave a slow smile as he remembered the feel of Derrick’s hands as he roughly ran his hands down Terry’s torso last night in the shower. He shivered as he remembered their frantic kisses and the feel of Derrick’s hard chest.

Alec was soothing and surprisingly passionate. When Terry closed his eyes he could almost hear the low murmur of Alec’s velvety voice as he urged Terry to touch him. Terry needed no urging. But Alec’s voice was just so sexy; it still gave him shivers.

His Hufflepuff girls were always all about sexual desire and attraction. The first girl he had ever been to bed with had been from Hufflepuff. Marcus had set him up with her. He had been so naive, it had taken him a few minutes to comprehend what the girl had been offering him.

The thought of Angelina still made him tremble and yearn. In the dark, he still dreamed of her mocha soft skin, the rough yet silky feel of her hair and it’s intricate braids, and her throaty vocal moans. But she was Adrian’s and Terry knew he had to respect that relationship. Adrian was just too important to him.

But Alicia was something else. She was all these emotional responses tied up into one person. She was all of these things to him.

“Do I love her?” thought Terry with surprise. “Or is the question, should I love her?” He stared up into his bed hangings for hours until he finally fell asleep.

The North Tower: Wednesday Night:

When Terry came through the door, she was waiting for him standing by the window in the waning spring light.

“Terry,” said Alicia as she drank in the sight of him. She sighed as she thought that she had never found a man more attractive than him. He reminded her of a Siamese cat with his graceful elegant build, intense blue eyes, pouting sulky mouth and high cheekbones.

“Ally,” said Terry as he looked at her. She was intoxicatingly exotic to him. Her dusky skin that glowed like a rare black pearl, her slanting dark eyes and her lusciously curved body made his heart pound.

“You wanted to see me,” asked Ally as she held up his note.

“Yes,” said Terry seriously as he advanced on her. “We have to talk.”

“About our relationship,” agreed Ally with a shaky smile.

“I have to tell you something,” said Terry intensely. “But do not interrupt me while I am talking. I’ve been thinking about us for too long. I have a girlfriend. Her name is Daria and she is a good person. I should be happy. I should love her. But I don’t. I can’t. I love you. I think about you all the time. I yearn for you. But honestly, I don’t think our relationship has a chance. Socially, we come from different worlds. My friends and yours do not mix apart from Katie and Marcus. I feel that you are just playing with me and when you are done, you’ll go back to your world and leave me alone to pick up the pieces of my life as best I could. I do not think I am brave enough to do it.”

As Alicia was listening to his words, her heart swelled with his words of love then deflated as she saw how unhappy he looked.

“You love me,” said Ally dully. “But you don’t want me?”

“Gods,” said Terry with a shake of his head. “I wish I didn’t want you so much. I burn for you.”

“I am not playing with your heart,” said Ally intensely. “You are playing with mine. You tell me how much you want and love me then you reject me again!”

“I’m here, aren’t I?” shouted Terry as he grabbed her shoulders. “Besides, you don’t want the real me!”

“The real Terrence Higgs?” asked Ally. “Who is he? Do you know?”

“Yes,” growled Terry. “You want this fairy tale, made up version of me. You want a perfect boyfriend to show off to your friends and family. But I am far from perfect, Alicia Spinnet. First of all, I like sex. And I like having it with men and women. I do not think it is in me to be perfectly faithful to one person. I see it’s killing Adrian right now. He’s bending himself inside out to make himself into Angie’s ideal boyfriend. But I am not going to do that for any woman. Secondly, my friends and my family are very important to me. I come from a pureblood family and I refuse to be ashamed by that fact. Thirdly, I am snarky and sarcastic but I like me that way. I am not a doormat for you to wipe your feet on.”

“I know,” said Ally calmly.

Terry was taken aback then his eyes glittered. “You know everything?” asked Terry as he whispered in her ear. “Did you know that Angie and I had a little fling a few weeks ago? Did you know that I had it off with both you and Derrick on Friday night? I enjoyed both encounters very much.”

“I know now,” said Ally as her heart pounded uncomfortably. Suddenly Angie’s odd behavior was making sense.

Terry leaned back and looked into her eyes seriously. “Another thing Ally,” said Terry. “I do not want to hurt Daria as I suspect you will not want to hurt Weasley. How can we be together if we have other interests?”

“You keep telling me why we cannot be together Terry,” whispered Ally intensely. “Now I will tell why we have to be together. I love you and I know that you love me. We love each other even though we know it is wrong and it might end badly. But life is too short for second guesses. I know that you will never be the most faithful man in the world. But I can deal with that. You never have to hide it from me. I know that you love Adrian and that you always will. I do not begrudge you Adrian. I love the sexually adventurous side of your personality. If In’t,n’t, I doubt it would ever have occurred to me to sleep with both you and Adrian for the first time on the same night.”

Ally stopped talking because Terry slanted his mouth over hers and gave her a soul stirring passionate kiss. Ally grabbed his shoulders and kissed him back.

“I still feel that your friends will think I am not good enough for you,” said Terry a minute later breathlessly. “Even though, I have my pride. I come from a wealthy aristocratic family. I am a great catch!”

“You are a wonderful catch,” said Ally as she kissed his jaw soothingly. “And I think we should overcome the social drawbacks of our relationship the way Marcus and Katie have.”

“How?” asked Terry as he looked at her quizzically.

“Haven’t you noticed?” said Alicia with a laugh. “They ignore everybody and everything around them. They force their surroundings to conform to their relationship.”

“I think you may be confusing a key part of Marcus’s personality,” said Terry thoughtfully. “He is and will always be an extremely confident and forceful man. He wanted Bell and by Merlin, he was going to have her. He found a way around his family, her family, his House and her House. It didn’t happen overnight. He laid the groundwork by courting the good graces of several influential Slytherin girls. They were so surprised and flattered that they have been protecting Bell from the worst of the censure that would have been coming her way. After all, she is a pregnant Gryffindor. But since Marcus is doing the honorable thing, no one is snubbing her. After all, Marcus is the heir to an old landed family and from what I understand his stupendously rich grandmother dotes on him.”

“But those girls used to follow Billy like she was the Queen of Slytherin,” protested Alicia.

“Billy looked like she was going to be the next Mrs. Flint,” said Terry with a snort. “They were sucking up to her. They dropped her like a hot potato after she tried to kill Katie when it became clear just who was going to be Marcus’s wife. Actually, if Billy was smart she should have went for Tarquin Bole. He is probably one of the most eligible bachelors in wizarding Britain. But I think Billy knew that Tarquin was and is so marriage shy that it’s going to take a very determined witch plus a mind altering potion to drag him to the alter. Just wait until the witches start after Malfoy. I’ve heard Parkinson has staked her claim early.”

“Slytherin House is just one big mass of plots and plans, isn’t it?” asked Alicia with a slight frown.

“They don’t call it the Snake Pit for nothing,” said Terry with pride.

Alicia gave a snort and kissed a surprised Terry. She let her tongue slip into his mouth. She moaned when he sucked on her tongue lightly. He explored her mouth thoroughly as they exchange kiss after soft kiss.

“So,” said Alicia as she pulled away from Terry’s seeking mouth. “Are you going to tell me that you don’t want me now?”

“No,” whispered Terry. “I can’t lie to you.”

“I want to be with you Terry,” said Ally seriously.

“What about Weasley,” asked Terry suspiciously. “You never told me why you started going out with him. I thought we were going to try to make another go at it. Then all of a sudden, I saw you go to Madame Puddifoot’s back room with him. It hurt, you know. I followed you.”

“It was a mistake,” said Alicia. “I went to Hogsmeade to look for you then he asked me and I couldn’t say no. He’s my mate, you know. We have been friends for ages.”

“You always fuck your friends?” asked Terry with a grimace.

“Terry,” chided Ally. “That’s like calling the cauldron black.”

“Adrian is pretty gorgeous,” said Terry. “I have good taste.” He ran an admiring hand down Alicia’s arse as he said this.

“I know,” said Ally with a light in her eyes. “By the way, is Wood as good as a kisser as I have always heard?”

“Merlin,” said Terry with a scowl. “I never thought a few shots of tequila would haunt me this way. Don’t change the subject, Miss Spinnet. Back to the Weasel.”

“Haven’t you ever done something that you knew you would regret but you just couldn’t stop it from happening like you were watching it on the telly?” asked Alicia.

“What’s a telly?” asked Terry.

“It’s a muggle thing,” said Ally with a shrug. “I saw it when Angie and I went to muggle London. It shows things like a pensieve. I just couldn’t stop this thing with George. I like George.”

“Couldn’t we just get together secretly and fuck our brains out every few days?” asked Terry hopefully.

“We could do that,” said Ally as she ran her hand down his arse. “Then I could one day marry George and you and I could have a secret affair for years.” Alicia’s tone got very sarcastic as she tried to push away from Terry. “Maybe you and Daria could get married as well and we could lie and cheat into the next millennium?”

“I know,” said Terry as his eyes flashed. “I’m not daft. We are going to have to this very slowly and very carefully. We are both going to have to break it off with Daria and Weasley but in a way that they don’t realize that we are breaking it off in order to be together. Did I just make sense?”

“Slightly,” said Alicia as her heart lifted. “With Marcus and Katie’s wedding coming up, we do have an excuse to be together.”

“We’ll wait until summer hols to do it,” said Terry with a firm nod. “Kind of drift away without the other really noticing. Would it be awful of me to ask that you don’t actually fuck Weasley again?”

“Yes,” said Ally slightly outraged. “Seeing as you still sleep with Adrian and Merlin knows who else!”

“But what if I promise only to do it only if you are there, as well,” wheedled Terry.

“We are trying to keep it a secret,” said Alicia repressively as a slight tremble of desire ran down her spine. “You can play if you wish, but you just have to tell me after.”

“Carte Blanche,” said Terry with his eyes alight with amusement.

“We still have to let George and Daria down easily,” said Alicia. “As much as it pains me, you are still her boyfriend.”

“So,” said Terry as his eyes warmed and a smile lit up his face. “We are really going to do this. Merlin, we must be crazy.”

“We’ll set a time limit of six weeks, until Marcus and Katie’s wedding,” said Alicia with a determined look. “To wrap up our loose ends and then we’ll officially try again.”

“Are we going to fool around a bit before then,” coaxed Terry.

“Maybe,” said Ally as a smile lit her face. Terry pulled her up against her body and kissed her lightly on the lips, cheeks, and eyelids. Their mouths met in a frantic kiss then Alicia pulled away with a moan of regret.

“I have to go,” said Ally with a sigh.

“Why?” asked Terry with a pout.

“I have a date with George,” said Ally with a nervous laugh.

“Please,” begged Terry. “No shagging, tonight at least?”

“Okay,’ said Ally. “But the same for you. No slipping off into dark corners with Adrian, Derrick or Daria!”

“Agreed,” said Terry craftily. If he had it his way, Weasley had seen the last of a naked Alicia Spinnet.

“Meet me tomorrow,” said Alicia. “On top of the North tower at eight.”

“I’ll be there,” promised Terry with a smirk. “With no clothes on.”

“Promises,” said Ally with a smile as she left the room.

“I think I have finally lost my mind,” thought Terry as he made to leave the room. But his heart felt lighter than it had in months and there was a spring in his step as he walked towards the Slytherin dungeons.
