PART 13
Draco stared morosely out the window for the millionth time that day. It had been 5 days! She wouldn’t come, he knew she wouldn’t, but oh how he’d hoped she would! As he stared at the empty drive he felt an overwhelming urge to kick something, to punch and hurt as he was hurting.
He’d tried to sleep, but every time his eyes closed, visions of a beautiful brown-eyed face swam behind his lids. She haunted him. It was becoming easier and easier to tell himself that he didn’t care how she felt about him,,, if she “loved” him. Maybe that would come later, right now he just wanted her back! Tomorrow was New Years Eve! They should be together!
A soft, timid knock sounded on his door. “Go away!” He shouted.
“Master Draco?” Millie the house-elf stood shivering outside the door, a large tray in her hands. “Master Draco your mother says I must bring you food. She tells Millie that she cannot leave until Master Draco takes it.”
“Fine! Come in then.” He said sulkily. Let the silly elf bring the tray, didn’t mean he’d have to eat it.
Millie took in Master Draco’s untidy room and unkempt body with distaste. “Master Draco,” She started bravely, “everyone is so worried! Did not Miss Hermione Granger’s visit help Master Draco to feel better?”
Draco’s eyes instantly zeroed on the elf, causing her to tremble violently. “What visit?” He asked sharply. “Hermione never came here! Did she?” The elf nodded, terrified. “When?”
“Millie answered the door for Miss Hermione Granger 3 days ago Master Draco. She tells Millie that she is coming to see Master Draco.” The elf answered.
“Then why didn’t you bring her to me?” He asked, voice beginning to tremble with rage. “I TOLD all of you that I wanted to see her!”
Millie thought she would faint with fear. “Master Lucius told Millie to return to her duties in the kitchen. Master Lucius told Millie that he would bring Miss Hermione Granger to see Master Draco himself!”
“Go.” Draco said to the little elf. His heart thundered with a mixture of rage and fear. What the fuck had happened? Why hadn’t his father brought her to him like he’d said he would? Instantly, several possibilities occurred to him; the man had driven her away with his characteristic rudeness, he’d lied and told her Draco didn’t want to see her, or,,,, he’d taken her for himself.
Draco could barely breathe as he considered this last, most petrifying theory. He flashed back to all of the suspicions he’d harbored regarding the two of them. The train, the cologne, her mind-boggling level of experience! Shit! The thought of hijacking one of his father’s little “flings” was the reason he’d let himself become involved with her in her in the first place! But no! It couldn’t be! Not after he’d fallen so deeply in love with her!
Running furiously down the stairs he marched to the door of his father’s study. Refusing to give his father the dignity of a knock, Draco smashed open the heavy wooden door and stood there stupidly. The room was empty.
Ringing a small bell on the desk, Draco summoned a house-elf. “Where is my father?” He asked shortly.
The elderly elf bowed subserviently. “Master Lucius has not been at home for the last 2 days Master Draco. He was not telling any of us where he was going or when he would be back.”
Draco nodded a dismissal. He sat in his father’s chair and faced the empty fire grate. Thoughts swirled restlessly through his head. He toyed with the wand in his hand, twirling it through his fingers. If that bastard touched her he would die! He took a deep, cleansing breath and let it out slowly. “I will not jump to conclusions.” He told himself firmly, forcing a calmness he was far from feeling. “He probably just told her to go away and insulted her.” He grabbed the thought to him like a life-vest that dangled just slightly out of reach.
Heading to the shower for the first time in days, Draco decided to visit the Granger home in Manchester. He would find her and get to the bottom of it.
