During the drive to the London zoo all three occupants were lost in their own thoughts.
Lucas was estatic, his parents were taking him to the London zoo today. He had just turned five only three weeks ago. And this would be his first time away from the magical world. Remebering he was not to use any of his abilities while out, was the only thing that bothered him. He wondered what would happen if he did anyway. It's not like his Mama would let his Papa hurt him. Right? He thought as he watched through the window of the car.


Severus didn't know why he had agreed to this trip. Wait, yes he did. His beautiful wife had stated rather firmly that if he wanted Lucas to change his attitude. Then the three of them as a family needed to spend more time together. That was fine, he just didn't think being around Muggles was the way to go.


Lilly moved to graps her husbands hand as the car moved through London. She knew he was apprehensive about the whole trip. Even Albus didn't think having Lucas out in the Muggle world was a good idea. But she had been her firey self and gotten her way. To say that Lucas was happy about taking a day trip with his parents was an understatement. She could still remember the smile that had lite up on his face. She was jerked out of her thoughts when the driver had announced they had arrived.

"LUCAS EVAN SNAPE, YOU STOP RIGHT THERE YOUNG MAN!!" roared Severus as he noticed his son had already made it almost to the entrance.


Lucas stopped in mid run at the sound of his Papa's voice. Turning around he noticed the disapproval on his parents faces. Slumping his shoulders, he lowered his head to the ground looking at his feet. While he waited for his parents to catch up.


"This will be a disaster, Lilly, mark my words." sighed Severus as he laid a hand on her lower back to guide her toward their son.

"Relax Sev, this will be fun." giggled Lilly

The three had been there for three hours, and still hadn't seen everything. Severus was beginning to relax, it seemed as though he was worried for nothing. That was until he heard hissing. 'Great' he thought as he went to find his wife and son.

Lilly was walking throught the snake exibits while carrying Lucas. She wasn't sure if bringing him in here was a good idea. Especially when he began hissing back. She had to tell him to be silent more than once.

Now Lucas, he wanted down. Everytime he thought that his mother would comply. He would discover that she just gripped him tighter. Well that wouldn't do, so with a little push of his magic. He found himself on the ground. 'Hee Hee' he thought as he walked over to this big snake.

~Hello, what kind of snake are you?~ Lucas hissed as he looked upon the biggest snake he'd seen in all his five years.

~A Brazilian Python, snake-child, precious child~ it hissed as it came closer to the glass.

Lucas looked toward his Mama, still not noticing that his Papa was coming toward him from his left. ~Why are you here? What's your name?~

~I was born here snake-child. I have not been giving a name.~

~How about Slither, that's a good name.~ Lucas hissed as he lifted his hand toward the glass. Not noticing that his hand glowed white, causing the glass to disappear.

The Python blinked as the snake-child touched the glass. And when it realised this was its chance to escape. Slither as the snake decided was going to be his name slid out of the opening quickly. ~Thanks~ it hissed as it went toward the exit.

The only thing that went through Lucas's mind was 'Oh no'. Before he was jerked into strong arms. Looking up at the owner of those arms, he seen his Papa had a pissed look on his face. 'I'm in trouble' he thought as he was about to speak. Only to be cut off by the sound of his Papa's voice.

"Not one word." snarled Severus with coldness. Before he stalked toward his wife, leading them from the exibit and back to the car.

When they had arrived home, his Papa took him straight to his room and locked him in. But not before telling him that he would stay there while he and his Mama decided punishment.
Climbing onto his bed he cried. He didn't mean to do it.

{Inside the Study}


"Severus, be reasonable, Lucas didn't mean to let that snake out."

Severus couldn't believe what he wife had just said. He had told Lucas that under no circumstances was he to use any of his abilities. It wasn't the snake that made him angry. Their son had used magic on his Mother.

"I don't care about the snake being let loose. What I'm angry about was the fact that he used magic on you. Only because you won't let him down." snarled Severus as he paced the floor.

Lilly's eyes widened at that. She had forgotten that part when watching Lucas release the snake. And by the way her husband was pacing and snarling he was beyond mad. Going to him she wrapped her arms around him in an effort to calm him.

"He still needs to be punished Lilly." he sighed as he embraced his wife.

"Alright, but you do it."

"Do you want to be present?"

"No" Lilly replied as she removed herself from his embrace and left the room.

'Damn' Severus thought as he went toward their son's room. He knew that he needed to let Lucas know why he was being punished.

Hearing the door to his room open, Lucas sit up on the bed. Sniffling still as his Papa walked in closing the door. A spell was done that Lucas recognised for silence. When his Papa sat on his bed he slowly crawled onto his lap. "I'm sorry" he whispered as he looked up with those innocent eyes.

Severus just about buckled when his son said he was sorry with those innocent eyes. Until he remembered what his son had done to his own Mother. "Lucas, you will be punished. Not because of the snake. But for the use of magic on your Mother as well as the use of parseltongue after you had be told there was to be no use of your abilities."

Lucas's eyes filled with fresh tears. He couldn't believe that his Papa was going to punish him. It was an accident. But then he remember how he had gotten out of his Mama's arms.

"Do you understand, why your being punished Lucas?"

At the boys nod, he vacated the the bed and went over a chair in the corner. He wanted Lucas to come to him. "Come here Lucas."

By the time Lucas was in arms reach, he was already sobbing his little heart out. Severus had decided that five smacks would be enough. But Lucas would count them.
Pulling Lucas over his lap he lifted his knees enough to get the sit spots.

"I want you to count them Lucas." Severus replied, at the boys nod. He began.

SMACK
"one" whimpered Lucas

SMACK
"two" whimpered Lucas as his bum started to sting.

SMACK
"three"

By the time Severus had made it to five, Lucas was bawling again. He rocked the boy as he cried out he was sorry over and over again. When Lucas became silent, Severus carried him over to his bed and laid him down.

"I love you Lucas, but you can't use magic against your parents. Just to get your way. Do you understand?" Severus asked as he closed his eyes for a moment.

"Yes, I'm sorry Papa." sniffled Lucas as he lifted his arms to be picked back up.


Shaking his head, Severus picked him up before walking out the door. He wasn't sure if he believed Lucas was sorry for using magic against his Mother. But for now he would let it go. Hopefully Lucas meant it, if not then his bottom would be sore often.
