Hunter Arrested
Author's Notes: Just how paranoid is the minister and just how far will he go to silence Hunter once and for all?
During the entire next day all anyone could talk about was Hunter’s blatant disregard for the Ministry’s Decrees and the gall it took to openly oppose them. In fact the conversations became so distracting that the teachers ended up subtracting numerous points from every house and several students received detentions for disrupting their classes. Professor Umbridge had even demanded the Dumbledore suspend Hunter for organizing the students in opposing the Minister’s Decree only to be reminded about the arrangement Hunter had with the Minister and herself.
Besides,” the Headmaster said. “From my understanding Mr. Catiar has only offered to tutor the others himself and has not asked anyone else to assist him in this endeavor. Therefore it does not fall under the definition of a Student Organization since only one student is offering the tutoring. Even if every other student attends the sessions as long as Mr. Catiar is the only one doing the tutoring then the Decree does not apply.”
As Hunter entered the Great Hall for dinner he couldn’t help but laugh as he saw the results of his little stunt. He had cost each house 200 points in the span of a single day. While not quite as impressive as the 500 points he had cost Gryffindor his first day of classes last year the fact that it had affected the others as well was, atleast to him, something to be proud of. Even if he would never actually admit it out loud to anyone.
About half way through dinner the doors swing open as Fudge and Umbridge march into the Great Hall followed by eight Aurors. As they make their way to the Gryffindor table Hunter notices that one of the Aurors is Tonks. From the expression on her face he can easily tell that she would rather be anywhere else at the moment instead of where she was. “Hunter Sebastian Catiar,” she began as she reaches his seat. “You are under arrest for the murders of Fenrir Greyback and Peter Pettigrew.”
The Great Hall was soon filled with loud whispers and roars of protests, the loudest of course coming from Hunters own house. Hunter smirks at the Minister for a moment before speaking. “Nicely played Minister, I tip my hat to you. But we’ll see how this little stunt actually plays out in the end.” Without waiting for a reply he turns back to look at Tonks and offers a sympathetic smile as he hand her his wand. “Just let me say goodbye then we can go.”
She accepts the wand and nods as he turns around and gives Katie a hug. “Find the blue spiral in my bottom drawer,” he whispers in her ear before kissing her cheek. As he pulls away from her he turns to face Carla and Cho who had raced over from the Ravenclaw table. He leans down and hugs Carla before looking over her shoulder to Cho. “Look after her for me, will you.”
Cho nods as she gently pulls Carla away from him so he can say goodbye to the others. Hunter hugs Hermione, Ginny and Demelza before looking at Harry. “I’m trusting you to look after the others for me. I won’t ask you to take over the training I had planned but I do expect you to make sure the band keeps it prior commitments.”
Harry nods and promises that he’ll take care of things till Hunter returns. Hunter then turns to Jimmy, Ritchie, Neville and Ron. “You guys make sure you help him out while I’m gone okay?” They give him their promises as he turns back to Tonks. “I’m ready when you are.” Tonks nods as instructs another Auror to cuff Hunter’s hands behind his back. Hunter follows her out the castle with Umbridge, Fudge and the other Aurors closely behind them. As they exit out the front of the castle Hunter’s ears pick up the faint but rapid sounds of several footsteps frantically racing up the stairs towards Gryffindor Tower.
The others followed Katie into Hunter’s room and waited as she pulled the notebook out of the drawer. They all gathered around her and looked over her shoulders as she began reading.
If you are reading this then I’m not around to finish working on the campaign. I can only guess as to what’s happened but chances are that Fudge and Umbridge are somehow behind it. Regardless of the reason I still need for you to carry on where I left off. I’ve left detailed instruction to help get you through the rest of the campaign as well as several possible play lists for the remaining fundraisers. I also took the liberty of arranging for us to have a voter registration drive at the Three Broomsticks during our next Hogsmeade weekend. Carla, Ritchie and Jimmy will pass out the campaign stuff while Demelza, Cho and Neville are incharge of registering everyone seventeen and older to vote in the coming election. Harry, I need you to take over as lead singer while Katie takes over lead guitar. Don’t worry about the back-up guitar since I’ve enchanted mine to play both parts during the performance. Now I want all of you to stop worrying and just hold on since I’m sure everything will work itself out in the end. The sooner we get Fudge out of office the sooner we can get everything else back to our normal.
Harry took the notebook from Katie and skimmed through it, letting out a whistle of admiration as he did so. “Fudge must have really pissed Hunter off if he’s put this much work into getting the git out of office,” he says handing the notebook to Hermione. “Remind me to stay on his good side from now on.”
“Still there are still a couple of things Hunter didn’t see coming.” Cho told her boyfriend. “He couldn’t have known that the Minister would have him arrested for double homicide and he certainly couldn’t have figured on having to endure the Dementors.”
“Actually he did,” Ron interjects as he hands her a Journal he found on the nightstand. “I thought Hermione was scary but Hunter’s even scarier.”
“What are you talking about?” His girlfriend asks as she looks over Cho’s shoulder and reads the page Ron left the Journal open to. As she reads the page her eyes widen as realization quickly dawns on her. As she read the last entry she finally understood just how cunning her friend really was.
October 21,
Everything’s been going our way thus far but there’s no way that Fudge can allow my challenge to go unanswered. Knowing the stupid git he’ll have to do something huge to show that he’s still in control. His most likely course of action will be to have me arrested for killing Greyback and Wormtail last year. Also knowing him he’ll need to do it in the most dramatic fashion possible, in front of the entire school. Thing is the git’s too stupid and paranoid to realize that’s the last thing he should do. It will outrage not only the students and faculty but once word gets out it will probably cost him even more votes.
The problem is going to be putting up with the Dementors until my case is tried. From everything I’ve read and heard they feed on the happiness others until their victims go insane from misery and hopelessness. According to Sirius they can’t understand the minds of animals so as long as I stay in my tiger form I’ll be safe. The problem there is that while I’ve made my peace with my tiger half staying in that form for extended periods gives him too much control over me. Although Sirius did mention that he was also able to hold them off by clinging to his unhappy thoughts and emotions. If this is true then I know what I have to do though to be honest I wish there was another option.
Katie’s heart stopped as she read his final words. Before the other could realize what was happening she dropped to her knees and began crying. Carla and Cho tried to comfort her by saying that he’d be alright but her tears continued to fall. “You don’t understand,” she told them between sobs. “He’s not going to be alright, he said so himself. We’ve lost him, I’ve lost him.”
“What are you talking about?” Harry asks kneeling in front of her. “Hunter’s going to be okay, Dumbledore will make sure of it. You’ll see he’ll be back soon.”
“You don’t understand,” she nearly yells at him. “He won’t be fine he said he knew what he had to do though he wished he didn’t.” Seeing the confused expressions on their faces she continued. “The only way for him to survive being in Azkabahn is to either stay in tiger form or relive his worst memories. Don’t you see, he’s going back to the way he was when we first met him. He’s going to stop being the Hunter we know and return to the Hunter that had nothing left to care about.”
As she continued to cry the others could only watch as her words began to sink in. As realization began to set in they too began to mourn for their friend knowing that when he returned he wouldn’t be the same as when they last saw him.
