Chapter XIII

The sun leaked through the half closed blinds, awakening Hermione. Groaning a bit and adjusting to the red LED light of her alarm clock spelling out 9:00. At least she didn't have a job that required a specific schedule. Usually she was an early riser, but the use of her vampiric powers took quite a bit of energy from her. Still well fed from the night before, she arose drowsily and made her way to her living room.

Her exhaustion the night before caused her to overlook the fact that her laptop was still on and humming. A silly mistake for someone of her caliber, however she brushed it off as carelessness and plopped down on her couch ready to face the day. Checking her mail was her first priority, mostly to make sure that the Department of Magical Affairs had not sent her a nasty letter. And there was Severus.

It was a strange feeling to look forward to her next meeting with her former professor. She felt almost anxious when she scanned the subject lines of her e-mail to see that there was no new news from her 'father'. A bit of relief washed over her as she noticed the lack of communication from him. After all, it had only been a few hours since they had last seen each other. It would have seemed desperate on his part if he were to contact her. Besides, how would he even know her e-mail? He had found her in NYC; perhaps he knew more than she presumed.

There was a response from the USA Government. It was brief, and only stated that they would take her decision into consideration for a new bill. They also said that they would simply 'turn a blind eye' to her actions; she was free to kill as she pleased. Feeling satisfied that her letter worked, she sat back and looked at the bustling city from her window.

After a few minutes, Hermione hit the refresh button on her browser. No new e-mail. Now she felt desperate. In a way she was. She was not only connecting to Severus in a romantic way, but learning about what she was in ways she never would have believed. She would never dare to find him. Or would she. Weighing her choices, she chose the sit-and-wait method. Better to plunge herself into work than to incur the wrath of Severus Snape, ex-Death Eater and Order member.

Apparating away had been a struggle for Severus. He truly did want to stay and show little Granger what a good time was. She had seen it all already with hired girls. No one he loved. Still, that sex was always top-notch. He made sure it was. Not concentrating as usual, he ended up standing in the Slytherin common room. The time difference through him off and it was already about an hour away from breakfast. Silently he prayed to whoever listens thanks that school was out. Or else he would have quite a bit of explaining to do; probably to Minerva. And she was nowhere near as forgiving or understanding as Albus was. The brave warrior shivered for a moment as he recalled killing his good friend. Shaking off his memories, he made his way to his rooms, taking a bit of time to admire the Slytherin decor.

What was he thinking trying to bed his own daughter? Of course he didn't think of her like that, however it was what she was. Perhaps he should just call off their next meeting completely. It would mean the end of her training, and he was not going to leave her a defenseless vampire. Going into his bathroom to take a shower to wash off the city stink, he stopped and saw his ageless face in the mirror. Half his life a vampire. The youthful gestures and expressions seemed so out of place for a man of such intellect. In a fit of rage, Severus slammed his hand into the mirror, shattering it into hundreds of pieces.

The blood from his hand pooled into his sink and seemed to vanish down the drain once the wounds were healed. Staring sullenly at the broken mirror he waved his hand and repaired the mirror easily. Few wizard/vampires existed, since they had the tendency of becoming the greatest magical beings in existence. They were usually hunted and killed upon turning. He was lucky enough to have his spy job to keep him alive. After that, the wizarding world left him alone. And no one would dare harm Hermione, mostly out of fear of the professor.

Halfway through the long week and Hermione was hard at work typing up a new paper of the effects of the oleander flower in a sleeping potion. Stretching to take a break and heading to her fridge for a snack, and unexpected pop was heard from her living room. When she ran back to see who it was, she saw a red rose floating down to the floor with a small note attached to it. Cautiously stepping towards it she realized that it had to be from Severus. Though he never struck her as the romantic type.

Untying the note the flower bloomed even further. Must have been some powerful magic to do that from afar. The note read:

On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the vampire with the red roses? Dracula's Daughter at 11, Saturday. Don't be late.

-Severus

Below his signature was an address, as well as a set of directions for getting to the bar. He was living up to his promise, and Hermione was glad about that. She sniffed the paper and smelled the blood that he had used to sign the note. Smiling to herself, she cradled the rose, heading to the kitchen for a vase and that snack she was craving.

Panting in his room, Severus was relieved that he was able to pull the little trick off. He had apparated to her apartment for a split second. Just enough to leave the rose. Just as quick as he had gone, he apparated back to the safety of Hogwarts. He was even still able to manipulate the flower with a time releasing potion he had it soaked in. Anything for her. Shaking his head he thought to himself that he must have gone crazy. A few weeks ago he would have never thought of doing something so outrageous. Especially for Granger. But she was more than just a former student. She was Hermione, and she was ready and willing to receive him in more than one way. That would all have to wait. At least until he was able to see her performance on Saturday.

[AN]Hmm....I didn't realize how short this was. Oh well. It's more of a lead in than anything. Dracula's Daughter was the name of a vampire club from the famous Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. Just a shout out.[/AN]
