Chapter 12: Destroying A Snake
Nagini
raised her head, ready to strike when Severus turned to Harry. He needed him to
use Parsletongue to get Nagini to do what he wanted her to do.
“Harry, use
Parsletongue,” Severus demanded.
“style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>Don’t strike,” Harry begged.
“style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>And why shouldn’t I?” Nagini asked. “style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>You’re not my master so I don’t have to
listen to you.”
“style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>Alright, but you know that we have the power
to kill you,” Harry told her.
Nagini seem to think about this for awhile.
“style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>Very well, but I don’t have to like it.”
And she lowered herself.
“Thank you, Harry,”
Severus said, glad that he wasn’t about to get bitten by Tom Riddle’s snake.
“So what’s your
plan?” Harry asked.
“I have a potion
ready that will rid Nagini of Tom’s bit,” Severus said. “I do hope that the
former Headmaster told you about how Tom will react when we destroy this part?”
Harry nodded and then said, “He said that Tom won’t know
that it’s been destroyed.”
“Correct, ten
points to Gryffindor,” Severus said.
Harry grinned at him.
“It isn’t term yet?”
Severus smirked.
“That’s why I’m
giving you the points,” he said. “Now let’s put Nagini in a cage and then clean
up.”
A few
minutes later Severus reported that Nagini was in a cage and waiting for him to
give her the potion. McGonagall thanked him and then asked a very important question.
One that Severus thought was a little personal.
“Are you going to
try and get Hermione to talk to you?”
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “I don’t know how that will help,” Severus
said. “She has it in her mind that I raped her of my own free will and it hurts
more then you can imagine. I don’t know how she’ll react when she finds out
that I’m teaching Herbology.”
McGonagall thought about this for a moment.
“I think that we
need to work out a way to make Hermione see that Ron is the cause of all this,”
McGonagall said. “I’m sure that by now he’s rotting in Azkaban.”
“Yes, he is,”
Severus said. “Right in the cell that would have had me.”
McGonagall thought about this as well.
“Let me ask the
Minister of Magic if they put Ron’s testimony in a pensive,” McGonagall said. “I’ll
put it in Dumbledore’s pensive and then have Hermione view it. That should
prove that your innocent and then you can work on rebuilding her trust.”
“That would be
wonderful,” Severus said a huge rush of gratitude towards the new Headmistress.
She smiled at him.
“I’m glad you like
it,” she told him. “Now let me get started on that letter.”
Severus again thanked her and then swept out.

“How did it go,
Professor?” Harry asked when Severus returned.
“Well,” he
answered. “Now let’s get rid of this snake.”
Harry nodded and handed Severus the vial that the former
Potions Master had been working on for sometime. Ten minutes later Nagini was
dead.

The
Minister of Magic was a little surprised when he got a letter from the
Headmistress. He had tired to get on her good side like he had tried with
Dumbledore, but, like Dumbledore, she had a mind of her own. He hated that!
However, he knew what she was talking about when she asked him for the trial
memory that they had taken from him when he had been found guilty.
He left his
office and headed down to the Information Department and asked for the vial. Marshal
Hall wasn’t too happy about giving it to him, but he gave him the vial. The
Minister thanked him and then left. A few minutes later the owl was gone.

The next
morning, after Hermione threw up, she headed to see the Headmistress. She had
gotten a summons for her to meet McGonagall in her office and after making sure
that her rapist wasn’t around, she hurried off.
“Fame,” Hermione
said to the phoenix.
It moved aside to let her pass.
When she
entered she saw the Headmistress was standing next to her desk. She looked up
when Hermione entered and motioned for her to sit down. Hermione thought for a
moment that she would be asked if she wanted a lemon drop, but McGonagall didn’t
ask her if she wanted sweets.
“I’m glad that you
answered my summons,” McGonagall said.
“Well I’m always
pleased to be around you, mame,” Hermione told her.
McGonagall smiled at her.
“That you are,” she
said. “I asked you here because I’ve got the memory that will hopefully help
you in knowing the difference between reality and fantasy and save us a lot of
problems.”
Hermione stared at her and then McGonagall pulled out the
vial.
“Do you know what
this is?” McGonagall asked, pointing to the pensive.
“It’s a pensive,
mame,” Hermione answered.
“Very good,” she
said. “And this is a vial of memory. I will pour it in and then you’ll be asked
to visit inside the pensive. I hope that you come out of it a different person.”
Hermione looked a little fearful, but knew that she wouldn’t
be able to get out of this. McGonagall poured the memory in and then summoned
Hermione closer. Hermione took out her wand and touching it, she fell in.
