Chapter 13

A New Hope
Chapter 13
By: MorningStar

Harry sat in his room, staring up at the crescent shaped moon. His hand rubbed across this slightly swollen abdomen as he thought back to the results of Poppy’s examination. It had been a couple of weeks since his talk with Snape. He had decided only two days afterward that seeing the mediwitch would be in his best interest. The potions professor had agreed and insisted that he accompany the young wizard.

Of course, Madame Pomfrey was delighted to see the ‘boy-who-lived’ even if it was during her vacation. She swiftly ran all the tests that she needed and assured Harry that both he and his unborn child were safe. She guessed that Harry was nearly four months along in his pregnancy and told him that he would start showing quite noticeably soon.

Harry remembered what he was told about not being able to hide it and was slightly worried that people would find out so very soon. He knew that he would be judged and tormented and there would be nothing he would be able to do about it. Snape could visibly see the young man’s worry and tried talking with him about it on their way back to Snape Mannor.

“People are going to talk about me no matter what I say or do. They’ll never understand. At least now I know who my child’s father is,” reassured Harry before leaving his professor’s study that day.
This was why Harry was so much in thought now, sitting alone in his room. He gazed up at the moon, not really seeing it. The Gryffindor knew that he had to tell Draco. He had to tell him before they left for Hogwarts in only a week’s time.

Harry yawned as he entered the kitchen the next morning, nearly tripping over one of Damien’s discarded shoes. He stumbled but managed to catch himself before falling to the floor. He really had to be more careful, his balance wasn’t like it used to be these days.

Snape caught the action from the corner of his eye, “DAMIEN! How many times have I told you not to leave your things lying around like that?! Now pick it up!”

The young, dark haired child ran to pick up his shoe and put it away. “Sorry, Harry.”

Harry rustled the young kid’s hair and smiled at him as he ran past. He then took his seat at the kitchen table. Severus had left his plate, as usual and was now standing at the sink, cleaning the dishes.
“Why don’t you just use magic to do that, Severus?”

The tall, slender man turned to pick up a towel from the counter behind him. “Sometimes, doing things without the use of magic helps me to clear my mind and relax,” he answered, letting out a relaxed sigh.

“Oh, I see,” replied Harry as he continued eating.

Severus took his seat next to the green-eyed-youth, “Tell me Harry, have you thought about telling Draco?”

Harry rose from his seat, empty plate in hand and headed over to the sink. He washed the plate thoroughly as he thought about his answer. Without turning to look the dark haired man in the eyes, he answered, “yes, I have. I’m just waiting for the right moment.”

Severus raised one perfectly curved eyebrow, “And when pray-tell would this be?”

“I’m not sure. I know that I’ve got to tell him but I don’t want to raise this child alone and I’m afraid that he’ll leave.”

“Harry, you’ve been here long enough for me to get to know the man that you are. I dare say that we’ve reconciled our differences these past couple months. Am I wrong? Do you trust me?”

“No, professor, you are not wrong and I do trust you; you have treated me better and been kinder than I’ve ever given you credit for, sir.”

Severus waved to the youth’s empty seat at the table, “Then sit down and hear me out but first, don’t ever call me ‘Sir’ again. ‘Sir’ is what everyone called my father and I certainly am not him."

Harry took his seat back at the table and nodded his understanding.

“Now, Draco is my godson and contrary to popular belief, I know him better than anyone else ever will. It is because of this that I can say in confidence that he’ll be more understanding than you think. He is nothing like his father, Lucius. He’s always been protective of his family and this child and now you are both part of his family now. Just tell him, Harry.”

“Alright, Severus,” surrendered the Gryffindor, letting a yawn escape.
The older Slytherin stood from his seat, “Now, I must go see where Damien took off to. You look exhausted, you should go rest.”
