Chapter 13
Chapter 13
She kept telling him it was all a dream. As she continued to rock back and forth, Poppy handed her the glass of purple liquid.
“What is it?’ Chloe asked her.
“It is for his pain dear. He needs to drink the whole thing. See if you can do it.” Poppy stepped back and stood with Albus and Minerva. Hagrid sat on his haunches in the corner of the room. Frenny was patting his shoulder trying to console him.
Chloe released one of her arms from around Severus’ head. She pushed the glass in between his lips.
“Here darling…drink. It will help you.” His eyes flew open and he vomited all over her lap. Chloe squeezed her eyes shut and tried to turn his face out of the stinking mess.
Poppy came behind her and muttered a spell, and with a flick of her wand, the mess was gone. Chloe tried again. But the pain had come back with renewed force. His screams did too. Chloe cried as she rocked him more.
“Albus…I can’t do this. Please let me know if I can help in another way.” Minerva spoke quietly into Albus’ ear. She left quickly from the room.
“Please don’t die…please don’t die.” Chloe was crying, her tears mixing with his blood and sweat. His eyes opened again and he looked at her. His mouth was open, as if to scream, but no sound came out. He just stared at her as his eyes filled with tears. She kissed his tears away and placed the glass to his lips.
“My love, you must drink. It will make the dream go away. It was all just a dream…” he was able to drink the purple liquid, albeit, slowly. He began to have a seizure halfway through. Albus and Hagrid came to help hold him still. He could not afford to break anymore bones. The pain was too terrible as it was.
When he was finished with the drink, Chloe handed the glass back to Poppy and she continued to rock him. Poppy began dressing his wounds.
Albus sent Hagrid back to his hut. He asked Frenny to go to the kitchens and bring them all something to eat. And he stood and watched the scene before him. This was his own Hell. His friend whom he had sent out to the wolves, lay dying, held by a woman he was not given time to love. He was loved by her, unbeknownst to him. Albus stood and cried. There was nothing he could do.

Hours went by. Chloe sat in the same place, rocking Severus. She had stopped crying and was now sitting in quiet shock. The only words she could muster were quiet cooing noises to Severus whenever he stirred.
Albus sat in a chair and Poppy came back and forth from the hospital wing with supplies. She had a sleeping draught for Severus, and many more vials of pain medicines.
Poppy had discarded Severus’s torn and tattered clothes and dressed him in a hospital gown. They were able to see the burn marks on his legs better that way.

He saw her face, even in Hell.
His torment, was her face. Her voice soothing him and begging him not to die.
But he was already dead? Wasn’t he?
He felt a wave of nausea and more pain. The pain was unbearable. He couldn’t go on this way.
He opened his eyes and saw her beautiful face above him. Her hair falling all around her shoulders. He sighed and knew he was dreaming, as she told him he was. For her hair was never down.
He felt himself falling into a dark abyss.
He was so tired.

It was morning and Chloe’s back was hurting terrible. She hadn’t moved from his bed all night. She still held him, his head in her lap, and she had cleaned the wounds on his face with a wet towel.
His entire body was wrapped in an assortment of bandages, as was his right hand that was missing his pinky finger.
He had stopped having seizures, but the pain was still ruling his body. The effects of the Cruciatus curse were so damaging to both his mind and body that they worried if he would ever wake.
Albus tried to tell her that Severus may not recover, but she cursed him and told him to leave.
