Last time

“That was a very special potion called the elixir of peace, it allows the drinker, to be able to forgive past discrepancies and hopefully enables them to develop more positive feelings for each other. I expect your report on Monday.”

He smirked once more at the look of surprise on the faces of his students and cleared his throat.

“Class dismissed.”

Hermione’s chestnut eyes widened in shock and an uncomfortable lump began to rise in her throat. This was too much to be coincidence, the Professor knew something!

Hermione furrowed her brows and bit gently down on her bottom lip, she and Draco were still stood at the front of the class and although only seconds had passed by it stretched out like an eternity to her.

Suddenly realisation hit her. Legilmency! Of course, Snape had been tutoring Harry in fifth year! It was the only explanation, and being at a loss for what to do Hermione did the one thing she had only ever done once in her life. She fled from the classroom, pushing through the other students that were currently filing from their seats as she went.

Draco was furious, damn that meddling Potions Master! He decided to have a word with his professor after the class had left, no-one messes with a Malfoy. Draco tapped his foot haughtily on the floor waiting for the remainder of the class to leave the dungeons, he wasn’t surprised at Hermione’s reaction, her emotions were all over the place but she was still the brightest witch in Hogwarts and he knew it wouldn’t take her long to draw the correct conclusion.

Snape quirked an elegant eyebrow at the young man standing in front of him. Draco’s face was impassive but his stormy grey eyes glittered with anger. He had his folded arms defensively across his chest and was tapping his foot in a most arrogant and irritating manner. Snape forced a smile.

“I assume you wish to speak to me Mr Malfoy? I do ask that you be quick I have rather pressing matters to attend to.”

Draco’s head whipped up furiously and he looked his Head of year straight in the eyes before slamming both hands on his mahogany desk.

“What are you playing at?!”

His voice was cold and dripping with venom, a stark contrast to the heated anger dancing behind his eyes.

Snape clucked his tongue exasperatedly, almost as if he was about to scold a troublesome first year for the umpteenth time in one day.

“I have no idea what you are talking about.”

Snape hummed thoughtfully before continuing. The noise simply fuelled Draco’s anger, as was Snape\'s intention and he suppressed a desire to laugh at the boy.

“Now if you have nothing further to say would you mind vacating the room for I have work be doing, I unlike you do not have the luxury of mindless chatter.”

Draco’s eyes flashed dangerously and he clenched his jaw, swallowing the torrent of abuse he was willing himself not to unleash upon the sneaky Potions Master.

“I see.” He hissed in an almost serpentine tone of voice, narrowing his eyes slightly.

With that he whipped around, striding purposefully and confidently out of the class room with his robes billowing out behind him.

It was at times like this that Snape could clearly see that Draco was most definitely the son of Lucius Malfoy.

Hermione sat on the settee with her head in her hands and her fingers clenched feircly in her mane of golden-brown curls, she was shaking slightly and her knuckles were white with the force of her grip. Ron and Harry were knocking at the common room door, demanding to be let inside. She could just about hear their muffled cries but she ignored them, her head was in turmoil and the infants in her stomach were becoming increasingly restless, almost as if they were sharing in their mother’s distress.

Meanwhile on the other side of the door Harry was banging against the portrait of a very disgruntled looking wizard, who clearly wasn’t pleased at being treated in such a fashion.
He had been trying to call out to Hermione, wanting to know why she had fled from the potions classroom like that, he knew she could hear him and so he continued relentlessly.

Eventually becoming tired he decided to try one last time to call out to her, if she wasn’t going to answer then there would be no point in standing outside her common room forever, besides Ron’s eyes were still glazed from potions and he kept licking his lips periodically in a most unnerving way.

“Mione! Please let us in. We care about you don’t block us out like this! Surely what snape did isn’t that bad if it means the ferret will be nice to you for a few days!”

Harry had meant for this to sound heartfelt and sincere but he too was still under the influence of Snapes class and every word he spoke was punctuated by a high girlish giggle. ‘Damn Snape!’ Thought Harry bitterly ‘when was this potion going to wear off?’

After receiving no answer he shot one last sorrowful look at the portrait and grabbed Ron by the arm and forcefully dragged him away.

Draco arrived at the common room not long after Harry and Ron had left, he was still feeling angry at Snape for manipulating him like that and was muttering incoherent sentences along the lines of “Doesn’t he know who I am?....Bumbling fool…Too much like Dumbledore for his own good…”

Draco opened the door and walked over the threshold, still mumbling and cursing under his breath.

Hermione looked up suddenly thinking Harry and Ron had found their way into the room. Sensing eyes upon him Draco ended his tirade and looked her straight in the eyes, electricity crackled between them so real that it was almost tangible. They maintained eye contact for just over thirty seconds, but it seemed like hours had flashed by.

Hermione lowered her gaze first, staring into her lap wringing her wrists helplessly.

“I’m so confused.” She whispered, almost as if she were talking to herself.

Draco walked slowly towards her and sat by her on sofa wrapping his arm comfortingly around her. No words were needed, afterall what could he say? He felt exactly the same.

Earlier

Pansy had waited in the shadows after the potions lesson. She was absolutely horrified when she heard the verdict of Draco’s assignment. What the hell was up with snape? Why would he do that to Draco?

When all the pupils had left the classroom she noticed that Draco had stayed behind, probably to demand the antidote to that dreadful potion, so Pansy – being the nosy witch that she is - decided to wait also, outside the dungeon doors.

She was going to win his favour back by comforting him in his ‘time of need’. She grinned ferally picturing exactly how she was going to comfort him when she heard muffled voices from through the doors and she leant in closer to listen.

However when she heard no angry cries demanding an antidote her curiosity was piqued and she slid back into the shadows deciding to wait and follow Draco when he left the classroom. Something wasn’t right.

Now she stood peering through the gap in His and Granger’s common room door, Draco in his haste had neglected to shut it and for that she was immensely grateful.

Draco was acting really oddly and when Pansy saw him wrap his arm around that filthy mudblood she became enraged. So THAT was the other woman, nothing but filth! Pansy forced down a desire to burst into the room and curse them both on the spot but she knew better than that. She wouldn’t risk taking on the two most powerful students in the school. She swallowed harshly and strengthened her resolve, she was going to continue watching, surely she could discover something more to further ruin both of their reputations.

Hermione shuffled contentedly into Draco’s embrace and smiled up at him.

“The babies have been kicking a lot today, I like to think they can sense how I’m feeling. Do you think they can hear us?”

She looked at him waiting for his reply, an eager light dancing in her eyes. She had clearly forgotten about the fiasco in potions and for that he was extremely grateful so he decided to humour her.

“Oh” He exclaimed “You bet they can hear us!” He lowered his lips so they were brushing gently against her stomach. “Hellloooo in there! Can you hear me darlings its me! Its daddy!”

Hermione giggled and pushed his head away slapping him playfully.

“You’re such an idiot”

Once again she relaxed into his embrace the couple found themselves floating in the hazy euphoria they only seemed to be able to ahcheive when around the other. Neither of them notcing the audible gasp coming from the door or the squeak of rubber on stone as Pansy fled from the scene.
