The Rescue
A/N : Sorry this has taken me so long to update! It’s been crazy coming back to school and getting back into classes and stuff. I should be updating this at least once a week, maybe more until the fic is completed. Thanks for your patience. ~J.W.
P.S. Sorry for any typos, I’m really tired, but I really wanted to get this chapter posted.
Chapter 13: The Rescue
Disclaimer: I don’t own any of it…blah blah blah.
The Order headed for the Malfoy Manor. Remus was determined to kill the person responsible for any harm done to Hermione. He couldn’t believe after all of these years of being separated from her that he could still feel these feelings for her. She was his student for Merlin’s sake. Remus knew he couldn’t stop it, he couldn’t stop feeling the need and love for Hermione. His only wish was that he’d still be able to tell her.
“You ok Lupin”? Tonks asked from beside him. They had just apparated a few blocks away from the Malfoy Manor and were traveling the rest of the distance on foot.
“I’m fine”. Remus stated simply trying to hold his composure.
“So, are you going to continue to deny yourself any sort of happiness after this is all over and watch her slip through your fingers once again”? Tonks asked bluntly.
When did she become so observant? Remus thought to himself. “I haven’t decided yet Tonks”. Remus answered in a cool tone.
Tonks decided not to press the issue any further. He order members were drawing closer to the Manor. The huge house seemed to be lifeless. For such a large expensive house, it really was quite depressing. The feeling of death and evil lurked around it’s outside guarding the black magic that stirred inside it.

Hermione once again came to consciousness. Her head hurt badly and nausea built in her stomach. She slowly opened her eyes, scanning the room before moving. She seemed to be lying in the same room Draco had hit her with the curse. She was once again on the floor. She held her breath and listened for any signs of movement. After a few seconds she stood up. A sharp pain seemed to flash through her head, she was weak and couldn’t much more. Hermione walked to the window of the room, hoping to find some sort of escape. She noticed the window was in the front of the house. She tried with all her might to open the window, it wouldn’t budge. She even tried smashing it with and a heavy object, but it was obviously guarded with some kind of magic.
Frustrated, Hermione hit her head against the window allowing tears to reach the brims of her eyes. That’s when she noticed movement coming up the walk to the towards the door of the manor. Hermione quickly wiped away the blurry tears from her eyes with a large fear welding in her throat, had Malfoy returned with the demontor already? But, it was not Lucious or Draco, but the Order members. She could clearly see Remus, Tonks, and Dumbledore making there way to the front of the house.
She tried desperately to hit the window and scream to get their attention, but none of them even looked in her direction. She continued to scream until she no longer had a voice.
“Screaming won’t do you any good Miss Granger.” A voice said from behind Hermione. “They’ll find you soon enough. Such a pity you won’t be alive to great them”. Hermione spun around to see Lucious Malfoy standing in the doorway. Hermione glared at him.
“It will be over soon enough”. Malfoy said drawing his wand.

The Order reached the door to the Manor. The door opened with a simple ‘alohomora’ spell.
“That was too easy”. Tonks commented.
“Watch your backs, they’re expecting us”. Kingsley said going in first.
The order members filed into the dark house carefully. The house seemed to be abandoned, but each of them knew this was not the case. They stayed close together knowing this was some sort of trap.
“Good evening”. A voice said from above them. Everyone looked up and saw Lucious Malfoy staring down at them. “We were expecting you”.
“Where’s Hermione”? Remus demanded.
“Now, just calm down Mr. Lupin, you’ll see her soon enough”. He had a wry grin spread across his face.
Before anyone could get in another word a group of death eaters surrounded the Order members. “If you would follow me please, the demontor will be here momentarily.
Remus felt panic rise in his chest.
The order members followed Malfoy up to the room where Hermione was now tied to a chair. Her eyes were full of panic and fear, but instantly changed when she saw Remus walk through the door. Their eyes met and between them a silent understanding and forgiveness took place.
The next thing they knew, someone screamed out a loud and foreign line of words. The black cloaked death eaters fell to their knees in pain. Hermione looked up to see Dumbledore was the one who had spoken the words. Hermione had never heard of such a spell. Before she could process anything else the ropes binding her were cut free.
“Come Miss Grander, they won’t be out for long”. Dumbledore said to her. Hermione looked around and saw all the death eaters lying on the ground passed out. She was brought out of shock by Remus’ hand grabbing hers. He gave her a reassuring smile and led her out of the house. They ran outside and apparated back to the castle grounds. When they arrived Hagrid met them with horseless carriages.
Hermione crammed into one of the carriages. She was sitting between Tonks and Lupin. Dumbledore and Kingsley sat across from them. The closeness she felt to Remus was beginning to make her feel awkward. She had so many emotions built up for this man, she couldn’t imagine living the rest of her life without him. The ride to the castle remained silent. When they finally arrived the group Order climbed out of the carriages and headed towards the entrance. Before Remus and Hermione could enter the castle Dumbledore turned and approached them.
“I believe the two of you have something to talk about”. Dumbledore said with a twinkle in his eye.
Hermione stood speechless and Remus answered, “Yes sir”.
“Goodnight”. Dumbledore said walking inside the castle.
“Let’s go for a walk”. Remus said not even making eye contact with Hemrione.
They began walking in silence. They walked for what seemed like hours. Remus was the first to break the silence.
“Well, it certainly was an interesting evening”. Remus began.
“Yes, I guess so”. Hermione responded speaking just above a whisper.
They stopped walking and stared across the lake.
“Hermione…”. Remus began but Hermione interrupted.
“Look, I know what you’re going to say, but I don’t care. I’m in love with you, I fell in love with you and I can’t stop. You’re one of the brightest people I know, why can’t you see this was all meant to happen”. Hermione was practically yelling.
Remus put his finger to her lips before she could continue.
“What I was going to say…”. He began with a smirk on his face. Hermione felt heat go to her cheeks. She felt childish and embarrassed. “I’m in love with you also, and there really is no use in either of us denying that”.
Before Hermione could respond she felt Remus’ lips crash upon hers. They shared one of the most passionate kisses Hermione had ever experienced in her life. They stood there just embracing each other and allowing themselves to feel what they both knew they deserved.
